Your pansy painting is very pretty...love to see it finished....thanks...Janis, in The Yukon,Canada
Such a lovely haul, Miranda!! Good luck with your NO BUY!! Haha, every time I do a huge haul, I think I should do the same...but I know there will be new products I want to try! Lol. I can't wait to see what you think of the Old Holland watercolors, I'm curious if I need to try those! 💗
What eye candy 🍭. Such fun but kind of overwhelming 😮. But I must say that since I saw where Qor had come out with new colors, I was hoping someone would show them so that I could make my list 😂
Yes, a bit overwhelming for me, too. I put it all away in the closet and made a list so that it feels manageable. I love some of the new QoR colors and it'll be fun to incorporate them into my palette.
Turner was my first professional set of watercolors. I loved it after the disappointment of using Cotman. I still prefer some of the Turners over some of the big name brands. The Meiliang tube colors should match all the Pretty Excellent tin colors. Mine did at least. I still haven’t tried Roman Schmal. And can’t wait to see the Paul Ruben's metallics. They have been on my wish list for years. Great haul! Thanks for sharing.
I'm also excited to try the Paul Rubens metallics. I've wanted them for a few years but never could justify the nearly $50 price tag, so I'm doubly excited that PR sent them to me. Yea! Glad you like the Turner - I watched Dawn's video and she didn't have a great experience with them, so I was a bit worried.
Oh my goodness you are so blessed. I dream of having professional watercolors. I'm a photorealistic animal portraiture artist using pencil and have recently found that watercolor is my relaxation. Someday I hope to get some of the M Graham, Daniel smith, and now Qor. Being physically disabled complicates affording art supply but I am still hoping.
Okay! Email me at alkalicreekart@gmail.com and you can double- check my About page to know this is really me. I just need confirmation that this is you somehow and your shipping address. Talk to you soon!
Stay strong with the no-buy, YOU CAN DO IT. I am trying a low buy, but it does not go well :(. One thing, I watched a video by Helen Cryer "haul 1 year later" - it showed me how during a year we only chip into the supplies.
You are very brave doing a permanent no buy! I’m doing a watercolor no buy until the end of the year and I broke it twice already! In 2022 and 2023 I was obsessed with PR206, P048, and PO49. I bought PR206 from Roman Szmal and Jackson’s own brand. I bought PO48 from Roman Szmal and QoR. Then finally I bought PO49 from Prodigal Son. Then I stopped obsessing about them! 😂
Oooh, what did you break your no-buy on? I think it's going to be a little bit difficult to not WANT to buy many things, but I really do want to use what I have. I also have a wish list on Amazon that I'm sure my family will buy from this holiday season, so I'll still be able to pick up a few things. It'll be great!
@@MirandaWatsonArt for my first transgression I purchased A. Gallo’s ‘Elements’ palette. Quote: ‘[It’s] a selection of special granulating earth, mineral and plant based pigments. With great attention to detail, these naturale pigments were chosen for their unique atmospheric and organic textures. Elements, divisible into infinitely small pieces without changing their nature, can reveal the nature and complexity of all matter.’ It’s a muted palette and I think it’s beautiful. For my second transgression I paid a fee for access to a QoR watercolor livestream and I was sent the QoR urban sketch half pan set, two tubes of watercolor, and sample textured substrates to paint on. Oooh, that’ll be fun when your family buys you art supplies!
Oh, both of those things sound drool-worthy! I'm not sure I'm going to count classes in my no-buy, but the fact that you're came with the supplies might be a no-no for me, lol.
@@MirandaWatsonArt thanks! I did wonder if I should count the the QoR livestream as breaking my no buy, and at the same time if the QoR livestream didn’t come with the supplies I would not have been interested in paying the fee, ha ha. 😁
I enjoy Turner Watercolors! They do shrink more than other brands I’ve tried when you pour them into pans. I’ve found that adding a drop of honey to the wet pan seems to help them set more evenly.
Until 2-4 months later...then there'll be an even bigger one! Ha! Especially if another pigment gets discontinued! Love seeing all those colors, though...a true fantasy for most of us.
I’m so happy you’re going to explore your art entire collection after this massive haul! Though I will miss your haul videos. Hehe. Please make an updated video about ALL of your art supplies, your entire collection especially your paints (tubes, pans and palettes) and how you store everything like a tour, if possible. Would love to live vicariously through you and your art collection. XD And I love your painting / comparing brands through dot cards series, please do those again too when you can. 😬
Watching you with those pansy’s, I would say chef’s kiss of experiences. Total joy, touch of envy and raises those watercolors to the top of my wishlist.
You've inspired me. Ive got an addiction to collecting art supplies, and I'm just a hobbyist. This year's no buy plan lasted almost 6 weeks before I fell off the wagon. I'm going to try to follow your plan, paint more and quit buying. I loved the pansy swatches, and I'm voting for Old Holland in the near future. Have fun with all your new toys!
Made me laugh I have both of those pallets on my wish list. Look forward to seeing you try all your new goodies. Good luck with the no buy! All I have to do is say no buy and it makes me want to go shopping:) love the pansies, nice way to swatch.
Hullo Miranda, I believe that you could sell your Lamp Black "extras" to others who are looking for those vintage paints! I have sold and given away to friends paints that I have over purchased or double purchased because of forgetting I had already got them, but did not have them "paned"! I have 24 tubes of the Rosa watercolor tubes in my cart! I became enamored with the warm grey when I got their Urban Sketching palette! I also got 4 of the QoR palettes and I got a great deal at just $12.95 each! I have combined them and I have the QoR 24 5ml set for filling up the leftover half pans from QoR! I look forward to your tests going forward!
Oh wow so I'm actually overwhelmed and I'm just watching you go through your supplies 😅 good luck with cleaning your desk 😅 It's hard to pick a favorite item but I'm dying to see you swatch the glittery paul rubens set!
I love the Qor mini pan sets. Mine have the pigment numbers and lightfast rating printed on the bottom of the tins. The 12 pan mini is my favorite travel set.
I did a double-take when I saw "PERMANENT NO-BUY". Then, I saw all the exciting goodies in this haul.🤩It makes sense, now. Hehe! I'm curious to see how you arrange your Qor palette. You got some watercolor papers that I hadn't heard of before - looking forward to seeing those in action, as well.
Oh what wonderful paints you got!! I also love the QOR watercolors! I love how they flow.. ❤ just beautiful! The storm before the calm was a delight to watch!
I really enjoy watching your videos. Regarding the Paul Rubens metallic paints - they are gorgeous! I love working with them. So pretty! And the Turner design gouache is one of the best gouaches that I have ever tried. Thank you so much for sharing your art supplies. Hahahaha, have tried the No-Buy a while though it didn´t last as long as I wanted it to 😂😂🤭
Oh, thank you! I'm excited to try both of those products! I've already come across a few things I want, but I'll just add them to my wish list instead.
Lukas cobalt violet is the prettiest cobalt violet. Are the vintage Windsor and Newton paints in ceramic half pans? W&N used to used ceramic half pans ages ago.
Woohoo fun haul! I’ve actually done a similar decision to really try to use up what I own and maybe pass on supplies I bought but don’t love using while giving myself permission to replace colors. It’s not a super strict thing just an awareness of not hoarding Lol
My favorite color is the Cobalt Turquoise from Qor. Fooled myself into buying 2 tubes of PO48 each from Qor and MGraham and 2 of PR206 (should also be discontinued soon) when I was in the US last autumn, only to realize that I do not like them particularly 🤣.
WOWOWOW! I know it's kinda late, but it's so much easier to use gatorboard and staples to stretch paper. I had a hard time with the gummed tape. I tried to buy Angela's sketchbook last year sometime and the website wouldn't let me, never got back to it. I bought some of the Yes! canvases too, also to get free shipping from Jerry's. Have not tried yet, but I'm on the verge :)
The Schminke set in the unusual tin was available in Jackson’s, but came with the professional quality watercolour paints in it as a Jackson’s exclusive. I bought it and love the tin. Any of my Old Holland greens never come out very well. Same with Block greens.
It was the paper in the Sarah Simon coloring book that I tried in last week's video. I think it's lined in the description box above as Paul Rubens 5th generation video or something similar. I'm curious if Arches will do that with my QoR paints - I'm going to find out next week if I remember.
@@MirandaWatsonArt I had problems with the Paul Rubens. It was bad. Water and paint just sat on the surface. I really struggled. The NYC just dried too fast. I’ll give it another try. I’m so used to arches and Fabriano, it’s hard with new paper. I’m like the Academy! I bought one and a Baohong and they are very alike. Very good paper for students and professionals. I had no problem with my Qor on Arches
A couple of years ago, I saw the way things were heading with the economy and I went nuts buying all the stuff I'd always wanted. So unless there's something new, I am sorted for the rest of my life. So far haven't bought much in the past two years apart from some brushes I'd been waiting on forever cos I was waiting for a good special.
Hi Miranda, since going back to school i have been considering the same thing. As you know i have been a horder of art supplies like yourself i believe 😅. Though in the beginning it was encouraging to try out as much art supplies we can afford or we can exchange at some point it becomes too much 😊. I am currently on a no buy and i am forcing myself to use out my supplies. It is hard though when you notice new versions coming out like sugarcane paper or kuretake granulated colours 😅. I am here for you girl like before where encouraged each to try new things lets encourage each other to use up our art supplies. Nothing until our old is used up are you with me? 😊
Hi... I also want a permanent no shop... I did it already with yarn... but I don't know when to start stopping...! Problem. Just bought a bunch of Danny Smith... very nice. You didn't try White Nights....
Oh man. What a haul. It was so fun to watch you swatch and play. I’m curious if your Turner WC have a smell to them? Excited to see all that comes from this amazing haul. 🤗💕
Something I do, rather than a “no buy,” lol I try to go through my collection, and declutter and try to see what I don’t like or use anymore, and I sell it off. When I get everything sold out, I can have money available for what I want to try or repurchase what I actually need lol idk, I’ve wrestled with the same thing your talking about, afraid of never using what I own before I die, but I also wanna use and enjoy watercolors, and I also go through some paints quicker tbh because I sell my paintings 🤷🏼♀️ lol I’m just like, we’ll see 🤣😂
That's a great idea, Jessie! My no-buy may change in the future, but I'm still hoping to really go through and use what I have first. Fingers crossed 🤞
I prefer your framing things as "Permanent Art Exploration" which is fun, positive, and inspiring vs "Permanent No-buy" which sounds restrictive and hard to maintain. Good luck on your exploration of all your amazing supplies and discovering new things from within your own cabinets.
Oooh, I like this and wish I would have seen your comment before my No-Buy video I released this week. Thank you so much! I'll start using this phrase if you don't mind!
Hi, Miranda! I think that replacing art sundries that run out isn't a breach of a no-buy, but a day-to-day essential! Replacing an art material which runs out? Possibly questionable, but perfectly fine if there's absolutely no possible replacement among what I already have, and _it's something which I used regularly._ Well, that's my two-pennorth, and I will add a disclaimer: that this is my own 'theory', and not what I expect from others! That's entirely up to them. 😄 Favourite from your haul? The cobalt teal is beautiful. Worth remembering if I run out of the Da Vinci Cobalt Turquoise from your palette (which is my favourite of the set!), as I can get QOR from Jackson's, but no DV paints in Europe. Have fun! 😄 1
Smart to stockpile a bit. I did something similar 2-3 years ago when I knew I'd be house-poor or unemployed at some point. Now here I am, between jobs with plenty of time, not much money, and plenty of art supplies to explore! I've made good progress with my art in this time. You won't regret stocking the art supply cabinet now.
Have you heard of A.S.H.A. art supply haulers anonymous. I belong to this club as well but you just broke all the hauling records I think. YOLO have fun!
Yeah IM seeing WAYYYYY more oil/Acrylic hybrids. It seems like they are putting something in traditional in oil based paints to make them water solvent and almost every major brand has a variant W&N, Schmincke Norma , Holbein...I'm guessing it is because so many people live in smaller spaces that dont ventilate well nowadays.. plus a bit more environmentally friendly.
Is it just renaming water-soluble oil paint that's existed for a while? Jerry's Arterama had a video about the science of how that works and it was really interesting. But maybe there's something extra to make it dry faster since the water soluble oils don't, I don't think, dry fast.
I saw that on Lindsay's video yesterday and looked on mine and yep, it's there. Not sure why I couldn't see it that day, but I guess we all have days like that once in a while, lol.
Daniel Smith has plenty of po48 beside that fact it's not about the paint it's a out the art. It's so sad that so many of us are art supply consumers and not creatives. I'm personally giving away supplies to people that want to experience/experiment the art medium I have available. It's more rewarding than looking at bins of unused supplies going bad while I ruminate on all things "art". Good luck with your journey of excess🏵️
Hi Miranda, although I truly enjoy your art haul and product reviews (and bought them too 😅), I am so grateful to watch this video. Would you share, once a month probably, how did you go with your no buy, what are the challenges and opportunities you find by doing this challenge to inspire us more, please? I'm new to colouring and watercolour. But, I noticed that I have accumulated so much supplies that I need to cherish and use. Perhaps, having people with same thoughts will help me 😊❤. All the best!

@@GigisART okay, good information, thank you! I'll see what happens...
I have those pearlescent watercolour pans too! mine was hobby craft own brand in the uk but I guess they must use the same products as elsewhere 😮
I'll be curious how they perform.
This is delicious.❤
Yes! I agree. 😁
I might need to purchase some high-quality larger acrylic brushes at some point. Good feeling knowing you'll have what you need.
I'm with you!
I'll find out here soon. I haven't opened a tube yet.
@@MirandaWatsonArt I only ask because mine definitely have like a “doctors office” smell. 🤷♀️
@@MirandaWatsonArt yes please do
Hi, Miranda! 😄
Favourite from your haul? The cobalt teal is beautiful. Worth remembering if I run out of the Da Vinci Cobalt Turquoise from your palette (which is my favourite of the set!), as I can get QOR from Jackson's, but no DV paints in Europe.
Have fun! 😄 1
Yes, I can see that being reasonable. 🙂 Isn't that a lovely color? ❤️
Hi Miranda! Could you do a follow-up video testing the Rockwell Oilac? I’m suuuper curious 🧐
I'm also super curious! I'll try to get to them sooner rather than later. Thanks for the suggestion!
I was just about to ask the same 🤪 😊 . Super super curious 😊😊
It's a long video and I just started so before I forget, I will just have to say your hairdo is lovely
Oh, so many incredible videos to wait forward to and a sudden urge to paint pansies
Aw, thanks! 😊
Love that it inspired you!
I’m retiring and moving in a couple of months. I’m stockpiling art supplies noe because my budget will be limited then.
That's a good idea, in my opinion.
Oh boy, going to have to look into this, LOL!
It's an interesting shift, that's for sure. I think I like it! It'll be fun to try the Oilac paints.
Is it just renaming water-soluble oil paint that's existed for a while? Jerry's Arterama had a video about the science of how that works and it was really interesting. But maybe there's something extra to make it dry faster since the water soluble oils don't, I don't think, dry fast.
The pigment information is on the bottom of the tins.
Rationalizing is what we all do but some see it for what it is. No biggy.
I'm very happy with my decisions.
Yes, absolutely, I will do that!
Even if you do a lot of art, it's still WAY easier to buy supplies than to actually create stuff!
@@petiteflower5259 so true!
Oh no is the sale still going for the qor palettes? I doubt it but thought I'd ask!
It doesn't look like it - they are back up to nearly $30-$33 or so.
