    What can I say, a really unexpected post! My sister lives in Poland after a really crappy experience with the British government. I lived in Berlin and experienced the ...., I cannot even express the feelings about the holocaust, and the modern German attitude towards an integrated Europe. I feel so many people do not realise the sacrifices and efforts put into building Europe as it is today, I'm so happy that you have seen and shown some of it.

    Dear Heidi and mother. I’ve been following and enjoying your channel for quite a while and often comment. I must say that this post in my opinion has been the best by far. What a great idea you had doing it and a delight for your mom to be with you.
    You are a wonderful woman, very talented, warm hearted and fun loving. Without your video I may not have ever seen Krakow as intimately as you have shared it.
    Safe travels home and please keep warm. Hugs to Bonnie.

    So lovely and great time with mum. I spent a considerable amount of time during this video crying, so very, very sad Heidi but thanks for taking us along. We were going to go there when in Europe but being softies we decided we couldn’t handle the sadness, we cried just talking about if we’d go or not. This was such a disgusting time in world history. 🥰

      Aww Pauline, I’ve wanted to go for so long and so glad we did as it’s very overwhelming and the guide tells you all the stories and these innocent people and what happened needs to be remembered … we were just totally overwhelmed and numb ❤️

      @paulinehiggins8239 Місяць тому +3

      @. I’ll bet. My brother went there a few years before us, he said it just ripped his heart out, he had to leave as he just couldn’t do it any longer. That’s terrible that a place can make you feel like this, just a terrible, terrible part of history, I so wish it hadn’t happened. 😢

    That brought back memories. About 10 years ago,I took a school trip with fifty 14 year olds. Krakow was amazing - a rich, historical, picturesque city. We were at Auschwitz for Holocaust Memorial Day. We had the privilege of meeting a holocaust survivor - probably the most moving experience of my life. It should be a mandatory trip for every student to go and see this devastating place. Take care.

    • @TheNarrowboatPirate
      @TheNarrowboatPirate  Місяць тому

      I also think it should be compulsory - we spent the whole day overwhelmed at the stories and just numb - shocking that people can do that 😞

    What an incredible video Heidi. What a beautiful city and how very poignant too. My son who is currently working out in Germany with the RAF laid a trip to Auschwitz 2 weeks ago and seeing the pictures he sent back were very moving. So good that you and your mum were able to pay your respects and provide a very good tribute in your video to the millions that died. Bless you both.

    Evening Heidi
    Well Krakow has certainly changed since I went there! Those buggies weren't there, Schindlers Factory was an empty shell and. The chairs weren't there either. I agree, we do have a duty to do what we can to prevent such things ever happening again.
    Nice to see you and Mum having such a lovely time.

    Visited Krakow in winter of 86, while it was still East Bloc, and it was a struggling, desperate place. Market shelves were mostly empty and citizens tried to get western currency from tourists for visa eligibility to leave. Great to see the prosperity take hold, once the yoke is off their necks.

    Another very moving video Heidi. What a real treat for both of you to get away to an amazing city. I've not been yet, but many years ago whilst serving in Germany I took my mum to Bergen Belsen - a concentration camp liberated by the British at the end of the war. I can imagine the emotions you felt walking through those gates at Auschwitz - difficult to comprehend how someone could treat another human being in such a way. Thanks for the insight into what the city has to offer - perhaps you can take me next time instead of your mum.

    Heidi, a brilliant and very moving vlog. I was there in October and it was very emotional for me then and your video brought it back. Thanks.

    The painted signs above the windows in the restaurant you visited in Kazimierz are elements of the set design for "Schindler's List", many scenes for this film were shot on Szeroka Street. Greetings from Krakow for You and your Mom.

    A very thought provoking vlog, we must never forget the atrocities that happened there. It looks like a beautiful city and the buggy seems a great way to see everything. The weather looked like England, not a bit daunting for a hardened narrowboater. One of your best vlogs to date. Thank you. Lovely to see your mum in the vlog too. xxxx

    What a wonderful memory you now have with your mom as you shared the fun part of your trip. I felt like I stopped breathing seeing those chairs, and your explanation of their significance. The respect you gave to one of the darkest times in world history speaks volumes about your character. Thank you for sharing.
