And class is what Joe Simon has always been about. But little is known about the Louisiana born singer that made songs like Power of Love, Drowning In The Sea of Love, The Chokin' 'Kind and Theme From Cleopatra Jones into contemporary classics. Now in this captivating documentary, Joe talks about his beginnings, his breakthrough success, giving Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five their big break at The Apollo and how in the midst of his success ,in front of a audience of 10,000 people he walked away from it all.
I loved his attitude. He was a great dude. He lived a long life. I heard a lot of his songs as a kid.

I love me some Joe Simon, back in the days, my goodness, my older siblings, they had so many of his albums, 45s, tapes, Cleopatra Jones Movie, the love scene between Tamara Dotson and Bernie Casey was the bomb! I stop playing cards, because I realized I was the "Ace of Spade"! And still is, lol, and when they found one of my bf's body, all he had in his pocket was a, "Nickel and a Nail". Long live the great Joe Simon!

He was okay. I wouldn't say he was great! I disagree with what he was saying about the Jackson 5. He must have been smoking something then because the Jackson 5 was the hottest thing right from the beginning. Given some invisible God, all the credit for his success. Maybe he should have considered that his success was due to his own willpower and drive to succeed. Becoming a Christian was the biggest mistake he ever made✝️🤔?
My Dad Pastored a church in Coldwater, Ms some years ago and he had Joe Simon down there to preach one Sunday. Great memories

As a lil girl I was the disc jokey in the house while in another part the grown ups would sit down and play cards listen to music... Lord Joltin Joe Simon was a big thing here in Brew City Milwaukee Wisconsin; "Chocking Kind" was my favorite song; my dad's favorite song was Nine Pound Steel. It's so good to see him. We used to sit on the porch and listen to what they called Soul Music and the Blues on the radio. Women loved Joe Simon back then

My mother used to sing Joe Simon songs all the time; I was a youngster and swore she'd made these songs up UNTIL one day long after her death, I heard "Nine pounds of steel", playing at a Starbucks coffee shop, I damn near broke down in tears! That was my mother's favorite song!!;;;

JOE SIMON WAS MY HOUSE SCHOOL FAVORITE. I SAW HIM ON PERSON, AT THE HOME TOWN CLUB HOUSE. MET HIM. HAVE HIS RECORDS, CASSETTES.
I used to listen to Joe Simon on WLAC...."way down South in Dixie" Gallatin, Tennessee...with John R....Randy's Record Mart back in the 1960s. Joe Simon was one of the greatest. WLAC was one of the greatest R&B radio stations in the country. You could pick it up on AM radio just about all over the USA at night.
You're right man I remember those days getting to my bedroom window to get the radio signal. I did order my 45s from Randy Mart.

hard times and hard luck. I'm a White boy, born in the coal fields in a house with no indoor plumbing....I can identify with Country and R&B music.

I was born and raised in a small town in Louisiana. I was a musician (guitarist/ singer) from the time I was 11 years old. In my teens, around 1965 or 66, I played with a recording group comprised of older guys (Henry Clements and the Trojans) from Crowley, Louisiana. One of my greatest memories from my teens was getting to back up Joe Simon when he came back to do a concert in his hometown of Simmesport. I got to watch this masterful performer from the best vantage point ever, onstage with him. Although I've been fortunate enough to have met and worked with a lot of people whose music and acting I have admired through the years, I will never forget that concert.

Cleo was the great movie of the 70s. The theme song by Joe Simon was the greatest. I think this movie should have won an Acadamy Award, and Joe should have received one for that song.

God gave him a way to not be homeless. The gift God gave him moved him out of the chickhen coop that he lived in. His Christian upbringing help his to not using drugs, etc.

Bishop Simon said something about not understanding why "Get Down, Get Down" was so popular. "good beat, easy to dance to" ~ its fun, happy, nice to dance to, makes you feel good ~ he even laughs at the end ~ infectious ~ I do not see that as serving the devil ~ more making a joyful noise ~ then there is that voice
