After 1945, Poland and Russia annexed 1/3 of German territory and drove around 15 million Germans from their homeland. 1 million people died in the process. So much for the facts. Why should we go to war against Russia for a foreign power, the USA? The USA defeated and conquered Germany on Stalin's side. as a german kid of the cold war it was totaly normal to see foreign soldiers on daily base, as a soldier myself I saw the end of the cold war, the fall of the wall and the reunification of Germany. I am so thankfull to every single NATO soldier who did his tour in Germany, every single soldiers contribution to defend Germany was a part in a giant puzzle that at the end let the east collaps and end the cold war. The impact on Lithuania will be big and most of them will be very positive, every garrison city in Germany had a huge increase in wealth infrastructure cultural exchange, in Germany the allied soldiers came as winner and turned very quickly into NATO partner and friends... today the Germans go to Lithuania as NATO Partners and hopefully will turn quickly into friends. Lets hope that this contribution of NATO soldiers is the start of a new puzzle that lead to the collaps of the new threat coming from Russia.
As a regular German I have to say that I view this in a very positive light and I hope it will create a good relationship between our countries. I have been to Lithuania and have the impression that many Lithuanians are quite keen to have a bigger NATO presence there. During my visits I have seen quite a lot a uniformed German soldiers in Vilnius and did not get the impression that the locals disapprove of them. But I think it is very important to not disturb the housing market any further. Lithuania is a great country!
Very nice channel! I’m German and my wife is from Lithuania. We’re married for 8 years now and living with our two kids in Germany. I have taken on the family name of my wife. I hope that we will get better airline connections now to Kaunas, for visiting our Lithuanian family.
The German military and Government have decade's and decade's worth of firsthand knowledge and experience with the presence of the US military being stationed in Germany. The Germans will no doubt use these experiences to reverse engineer themselves by being stationed forwarded in another country. Issues will arise, but if any country knows how to accomplish this establishment, it is Germany. Fantastic to see.
As a German I'm totally okay with this. But it's sad that it's necessary. I'd rather just live in peace with Russia. They do their thing and we do ours. But Putin doesn't want so. 😔 I hope this ends in a deeper German-Lithuanian friendship. And in an exchange of cultures. The best we can do with it, right? Germans may seem a bit cold at the beginning. Prepare for that. 😂We're also known for being very direct and tell you right away what we're thinking. Even if it's not very positive. It can even appear a bit rude or offensive but that's not how it's ment. You'll learn it soon... 😁 But they also say that when you once made a German your friend it's a friendship for live. I'm glad my government decided to take some more responsibility when it comes to European security. It's questionable if we can rely on the US in the future like it was in the past. So especially we Europeans should stick closer together. Best wishes to all Lithuanians and the whole Baltics.
We Lithuanians are pretty similar - reserved and cold and sometimes rude, but please know that deep down we really appreciate you guys coming here to help us. And we'll do our best to make you feel welcome.
We aren't so different from you folks. Over 80 years ago, Lithuanians and Germans coexisted in Prussia, with Lithuanians even referring to it as "Lithuania minor" due to a significant Lithuanian minority in Prussian territory. Interestingly, the first Lithuanian and Prussian books were printed there. In much of eastern Prussia, people were bilingual, which likely explains why we share many commonly used words in the Lithuanian language. Matter a fact, we still have a German school in Klaipėda named after Hermann Sudermann.
@@marijusdovydaitis6920 True! We even have that common history in Prussia. I think I should learn a bit more about Lithuania. I have to admit that I do not know much about your country. I'm sure there are some intersting vids on YT. Gonna check them out! 👍
This is an important milestone in Germany-Lithuania relation. My dream is that eventually this evolves into a division sized project where Germany would have very sizeable, visible, permanent and indefinite military presence in Lithuania. This is a good step to the right direction.
Finally we'll have a proper Oktoberfest! In all seriousness, it is great to have you in Lithuania my fellow German soldiers and your families. We will make sure you're happy here and in time I'm sure we shall develop a close friendship, beyond that of mutual cooperation. Danke!
Ex British soldier who formed part of the hundred thousand plus British contingent facing the Warsaw Pact a lifetime ago based in a variety of garrisons in Westphalen. Keeping a forward element no mattter how small has always made good military sense and can also be good civil sense also. It will be a great experience for the German soldiers and their families. It would be a great idea if the British prescence in Estonia became a brigade sized permanent feature with families and perhaps a French equivalent in Latvia. That would give the Baltic region close to a complete Division of professional troops who would work and train alongside each other, learn the local terrain and the Baltic fold might sleep a little easier knowing they would not be abandoned if the worst scenario came to fruittion.
I've grown up with you guys. I lived close to ETR Kohima and I always loved riding my bike up that small hill and check out if you were on an exercise and trying to spot you in the bushes. In my experience, the British soldiers were fun to be around as a child. They were very chill and kind and we loved searching the temporary camps for stuff left behind once they left and went back to their main camp. The only thing not so pleasant was being woken up by 556 on a weekend at 7 or 8 in the morning. So in short: I dunno where you were stationed exactly, but if you were once at Kohima, we might have met :)
when we were in 1980"s stationed in Germany as a Belgian soldier , we had garrison cities with scools and very close social life with the locals. We had shopping centers but alos bought our livings in the local markets . I lived for 6 years in Ludenscheid during the cold war and these were happy days. Hard training too and high readiness (half batalion had to be on the move in about 20 min and on their way to their gathering stations for ammo , livings and others ... we then could go on to our battle stations at the East German border) Half of the battalion was on alert. at least once a month a squadron or every 4 months the whole battalion could expect an alarm and readiness test
During my 4 years of service for the Bundeswehr (Luftwaffe) in the 90s I was send to different countries. If I was still a soldier and young and Y-Tours* asks me I would also move to Lithuania. *Fun fact: Bundeswehr vehicles have a "Y" on their license plates. So if they send you anywhere it is called "traveling with "Y-Tours" or "Why-Tours". There is also a joke about it: Y-Tours - wir buchen, Sie fluchen (Y-Tours - we book and you curse)

Good to hear that Germans can help our friends in Lithuania, but I hope our help will never needed in a war and Ukraine and Russia will find a solution to stop the war.
I think for Lithuania it is a bit of security when there are NATO troops in the country. 5,000 German soldiers may not seem like a lot at first glance, but in the entire Baltic Alliance and the other NATO allies they can cause major problems for Russia. As a German, I can say from my experiences with US soldiers in the country that the economic advantage outweighs the "disadvantages" and that there is also a human gain for both sides.
considering how we only have 2 and a bit brigades, another brigade on top is at least a 25% increase through numbers alone nevermind the force power they contribute
Thats our first step back into the global geopolitical military playing field. Finally society is ready to accept that we start to look out for our own good again.
Russia ruins everything they should never have been allowed to keeping konigsberg it should have either gone back to Germany or given to Poland or Lithuania.
Im proud that Germany now finally is on the right side of history. In prior wars, Germans often were conquerers and invaders, but now, they come to help their allies and defend freedom and democracy. Great to see things can change for the better. Hopefully in russia too, one day.
What wars are you referring to besides the obvious one? Just curious.. In WWI Germany honored its alliance with Austria. In the Franco-German war the French declared first. In the Napoleonic wars France was the aggressor trying to establish a hegemony over Europe (no hard feelings towards our French friends though, it's history).
Afaik Latvia will get a Canadian led brigade. Estonia will have a British command staff on location and a British brigade is set to heightened readiness in the UK to deploy if needed.
Germany is going to build an additional “medium” brigade which will be based on wheeled boxer vehicles. With several versions including wheeled artillery, Ifvs, etc. and the Australian crv version which is heavily weaponised similar to the potentials ifv variant but able to carry drones and having a manned turret. This is meant to be able to quickly get by its on force to the frontline via its wheeled nature and potentially support the efp and the German brigade.
100% agree - but Canadians soon will be more and Latvia building up new large army base. For now they are here on rotation but there is rumors that Latvia might offer to Canada that they stay here with all they family members. Anyway - we in Latvia have some homework to do at first and then try move forward. @@dinosaure_jr4595

The Germans were asleep for nearly 80 years, they have now woken up and decided to fight for the good course this time. And as a German I feel that there is this mentality of „we musst do our duty to protect what is ours to protect“ and it feels good. The UK troops are in Estonia, Latvia has Canadians , Poland and Rumania have been strengthening their eastern borders. The navy from Petersburg could be blocked easily. If Ruzzia could not occupy Kharkiv and Kiyv----....finish this sentence yourselves. LOL.
Let's see with troop deployments, because that is legal truble during peace time, but at the very least the sea lanes and the airspace should be more secure given recent events. The Poles and the Germans can deal with Kaliningrad easily, we are not needed there. We have our own troubles to settle.
@KazilDarkeye vor 0 Sekunden I cannot describe how grateful we (Germans) are you are trusting us again so much after our past.... We will not let you down!
Great video ! It would be cool to hear some street interview opinions on the German deployment. Such a video would be cool to know what the common sense is. Greetings from Germany
Germany went from sending helmets to Ukraine in 2022, to sending 1000 AI-guided loitering drones per month by 2024. It went from never weapons to conflict zones to sending tanks, howitzers and air defense systems. This might have felt slow, but considering the policy decades before, it is quite a shift. And very likely a permanent shift. That's also shown by the commitment to Lithuania.
I think it will be tough for germans to adapt to Latvia for one single reason: I‘ve been to Vilnius a few weeks ago and discovered a single scoop of ice cream costs 3€. To us this is complete and utter Wahnsinn!
Dislokacija is NOT a lithuanian word. It is an international or English word which is adopted to lithuanian language - lithuanified. Dislocation - priskyrimas, paskirstymas, išdėstymas, kas geriau tinka pagal kontekstą.
The word probably comes from Latin. It obviously reminds me of the English word „dislocation“ and the German word „Dislokation“ which have the exact same meaning and they come from Latin „dislocare“ which has the same meaning
This video was really helpful, thx a lot :) As a german soldier im thinking about to move to Lithuania volunteerly before it becomes mandatory since i have no wive, kids etc. And it would be nice to be in a new garrison/barracks and not one that u can literally watching how its falling apart xD But i have one question. How different is lithuanian from russian? cause i would like to learn the local language to at least a basic level. Do lithuanians understand/speak russian or is it something completely different?
Thanks for watching! I think you’ll enjoy it here! Hopefully a native Lithuanian speaker sees this and can answer your question better than I can. A lot of this channel’s viewers are Lithuanian and love discussing language. But I will try… I know there are some similar words and I remember one Lithuanian language teacher telling our class that it was easier to teach Lithuanian to Russians/Ukrainians due to similarities in grammar or sentence structure. But it is very much a different language with different roots. Many Lithuanians over 40 will speak Russian. I believe it’s because it was taught in schools as standard curriculum; things changed after Lithuania regained independence. Lithuanians under 40 are more likely to have English as a second language. Lithuanians will really appreciate your effort to learn the local language! At least it uses Latin script and not Cyrillic, so that is one helpful thing to get started.
I would say besides some grammar similarities, it is very different. It sounds very different. It's baltic language afterall, not slavic. There's no russian "Ы" sound in lithuanian language. Also lithuanians barely move/open their mouths compared to russian or such "drama queen" languages as portugese, spanish or italian (no offense my southern allies). Vowels are usually pronounced fast/short, for example english words "still", "fill", "hill", "know" sounds much more lithuanian than "steel", "feel", "heel", "now", if you get what I mean :)
As Lithuanian learning German for some time I could share that there are some similarities of an idea how to express yourself in German and Lithuanian, but the harder part is words, which are totally different from English or German. Also grammar cases sometimes are similar to German and sometimes not and that makes some confusion😊 It is likely that you’ll learn basic level, it gets harder with further stages 😊 I can’t answer about Russian language.
People over 40 speak russian. under 30 speak mostly only english. Some people around vilnius and ignalina and such also speak russian/polish regardless of their age cause they come from russian/polish families
People should help Ukraine or they will have a massive problem coming for Europe if Ukraine looses a war. Ukraine is strong, but who can fight alone all time. Ukranians might be disappointed in a little help Europe and Nato gave them fighting against Russia
@hearthhammerreinheimer4251 Not enough ? Nobody with any military expertise ever believed or said out loud Ukraine could win a war with Russia and liberate Crimea ! And no Ukraine can't demand other countries to take over all costs of running the Ukrainian State and and the military for the next devade . Its nit gonna happen .Just look at countries like France and Great Britain and others . The only Nations providing Ukraine with the means to survivr are Germany and the U.S .
It would also be interesting to know if any of the Germans being stationed in Lithuania have roots from Old Prussia? Konigsberg was after all, a major center of Prussian/Teutonic culture for 800 years.
from what i explored the lithuanian housing market, it seems quite cheap. it seems like there is oversupply, as house prices are arround 10 times cheaper than in finland from my short exploration. ether way, more money is coming into the country, which will propably be good in the end.
Really glad france and Germany are starting to step up more. They and uk italy spain france too especially will have to double defence spending to make up for u.s. if not leaving NATO they will spend less in europe and let Europeans sort there own security out whilst they focus on china. I think that's fair. If we all increase defence spending we're too much for Russia to deal with without u.s. support. However we need to increase arms production manufacturing and rapid increase of at least 3% defence spending in next 2-3 years. It will be tough financially for europe, but a must all the same.
I think it's a great idea for a bunch of reasons. But the timing and execution of the measure...oof. It's essentially going to be gutting the few really "combat capable" (in terms of manpower and equipment) battalions we still have in Germany. It's actually become a bit of a meme in the "military bubble". Support and enticement measures for soldiers and (especially) families are also somewhat unclear. And it's also confirmed that the brigade will not be a purely voluntary assignment. Meaning if there's not enough volunteers for the post, people can and will be assigned there. And while that may sound quite usual for say...US soldiers and is in line with Inner-German postings, the idea of permanent "overseas" stationing is entirely new for the Bundeswehr. And there's plenty of manpower issues already.
german pronounciations were not bad! Oberviechtach (Ooh-ber-feeCH-taCH) with a strong H in CH (or alternatively (Ooh-ber-feeH-taH) , pronounce the H like in Klingon
Hey! I'm loving that you are trying to learn lithuanian, and me a lithuanian can give you a tip on pronounciation, i recommend in the word dislokavimas pronouncing the a softer, cause although it is a hard a but not too harsh. Most lithuanian words have it so you pronounce the first letters harsh and then softer. Linkiu visko geriausio Lietuvoj!
After the war Ukraine should (w/ nothing to do w/ NATO agreement) let allied countries to build military bases along their Russian borders for mutual security, defense & protection.
This will be very interesting. Germans are not exactly explorers and colonizers, never were. Much. But they also don't like to leave their country and culture. Most likely a few German bier halls are already in the works at these locations. Pommes und hahnchen und currywurst und bier - imported from Germany. Although I must say the region East of Germany all has fantastic beer itself.
the cost isnt really an issue in this case ... the intention is to build up german military anyway, so transfering a brigade to Lithuania just frees up facilities here in Germany which then can be used for the build up of the Bundeswehr. So mostly its money we would spend anyway even if we wouldnt move a brigade to our partners. The only issue I have with this is that we wouldnt need all that buildup and foreign deployment if only we would have politicians with the spine and brain to fully support Ukraine ... so that the UA can deal with Putins regime to the point that russian imperial pipdedream ends permanently.
German troops are alrady present. But this long term engagement will need permanent Infrastructure. In any case Russia will need at least 2 years after the end of the war in Ukraine before they could attack Lituenia.

Greetings from Estonia to Lithuania and to Germany
As a German I'm totally okay with this. But it's sad that it's necessary. I'd rather just live in peace with Russia. They do their thing and we do ours. But Putin doesn't want so. 😔
I hope this ends in a deeper German-Lithuanian friendship.
Wenn der Nachbar ein Affe mit Gewehr und Atombombe ist, muss man vorsichtig sein
We Lithuanians are pretty similar - reserved and cold and sometimes rude, but please know that deep down we really appreciate you guys coming here to help us. And we'll do our best to make you feel welcome.
@@manvydaspletkus3874 Sound like a perfect match! 😂
Lithuania
Glad the Germans fight on our side this time
Exactly.

@@darkawakening01 I was referring to ww2 in particular.
What about Brigades of other countries in Estonia and Latvian? Suwalki Gap, i guess, is at least well protected then by Poland, Germany and Lithuania.
Latvia already have mechanized Canadian brigade - and they numbers will only grow. In Estonia there is located UK military forces.

I have never fought in a war, but even I know that preventing it with all our might is nesessary . The Germans were asleep for nearly 80 years, they have now woken up and decided to fight for the good course this time. And as a German I feel that there is this mentality of „we musst do our duty to protect what is ours to protect“ and it feels good. I’m proud to be a German again. good luck soldiers I hope you will never have to fight.

The UK troops are in Estonia, Latvia has Canadians , Poland and Rumania have been strengthening their eastern borders. Well-prepared, militant Finns, Sweden with its strong industry and hi-tec armed forces joined us. The Orcs around Kalininberg might be strangled immediately.

I think it will be tough for germans to adapt to Latvia for one single reason:
I‘ve been to Vilnius a few weeks ago and discovered a single scoop of ice cream costs 3€. To us this is complete and utter Wahnsinn!
I was based in Wes Geramny in the 80s, as part of BOAR.
Now German forces are carrying out the same task in the Baltics.
And it would be nice to be in a new garrison/barracks and not one that u can literally watching how its falling apart xD
But i have one question.
But I will try…
I know there are some similar words and I remember one Lithuanian language teacher telling our class that it was easier to teach Lithuanian to Russians/Ukrainians due to similarities in grammar or sentence structure.
Also grammar cases sometimes are similar to German and sometimes not and that makes some confusion😊 It is likely that you’ll learn basic level, it gets harder with further stages 😊
I can’t answer about Russian language.
People over 40 speak russian. under 30 speak mostly only english. Some people around vilnius and ignalina and such also speak russian/polish regardless of their age cause they come from russian/polish families
Great Video.

People should help Ukraine or they will have a massive problem coming for Europe if Ukraine looses a war. Ukraine is strong, but who can fight alone all time. Ukranians might be disappointed in a little help Europe and Nato gave them fighting against Russia
Little help ? Ukraine is only surviving because of our financial and military aid.
@@axelscharf2415 You know good and well he means not enough! Where are you from? East of Ukraine?
2027?
Why is everything moving so slow?
They need to build a base.
Dude at the beggining looks like Rainbolt
This will all work out fine.
Asthonishing, this is still barely reported. I think many have not yet grasped the historical, political and strategic implications.

This will be very interesting. Germans are not exactly explorers and colonizers, never were. Much. But they also don't like to leave their country and culture. Although I must say the region East of Germany all has fantastic beer itself.

Great initiative. But it takes way too long to get some decent numbers there. Putin is not waiting.
2027 can be changed any time.
the cost isnt really an issue in this case ... the intention is to build up german military anyway, so transfering a brigade to Lithuania just frees up facilities here in Germany which then can be used for the build up of the Bundeswehr.
It destroyed the rest of the German military, because all of the material was cannibalised by other units
