It is comparable to the US Marines as far as ops are concerned, thus, it is easier to associate with that group than to do a direct translation of the word. I would call them Marines due to the fact that although the literal translation is Rifleman, on the other hand, what they do is the same as the US Marines. Thus, we may call them PT Marines.

And there are other places like Bragança region, etc.. common man, specially you as an ex-military should know that all the Portuguese special forces train in all conditions. The rotation of Portuguese military assets in Lithuania and other countries allows the entire corps of marines and F16s, among others, to respond promptly in greater numbers if Putin's fascist Russia tries to invade Lithuania, Romania or Moldavia, among others.
I don't know why the marines aren't present during the winter months. We have military mountain units, the Rangers, who are trained to withstand extreme cold.
