The Damned at The Roxy, 1977, 70s London Punk - Розваги
I'm into all kinds of music both before and after the damned, but the album Damned Damned Damned sits at the top of my favourite albums. It captures an energy that cant be written, it just has to be heard.
agreed, it's also the best (under) produced punk album too courtesy of Nick Lowe & Stiff records, probably the best cover as well thinking about it.
It's residing comfortably in the pantheon of all time great records. Unbelievable lightning in that jar!
I very much agree..... The first punk band i listed to and still is the best.... Great Album
@@gleeart Was under produced i agree (A little flat, lacked some depth), but it kinda works with Damned Damned Damned album and i think thats mainly down to the power of the actual playing. Sadly, it did not work quite so well on MFP album. Which is a very under rated album and i actually really like. Songs like Politics, and One Way Love, would sit just fine on DDD album for sure.
Got to be the greatest punk lp off all followed by mge
This footage is gold! What an important document!
Wow! What a great clip! I'm probably somewhere in the back of that squashed crowd! The Damned were one of the best bands to come out of punk. Spent many nights at The Roxy and Vortex!! So many good bands and really amazing, original and unique female artists too.
Cool lucky you great to see a Video from these days, me 60 and envy 😂 greetings from Motorcity Stuttgart Germany
☠️💣☠️
Lucky you+,! I only wish I had been there. If only..
What was it like to be there? The atmosphere, the people, the style, the music. What do you remember?
@@caycuse09 It was such a thrill! Exciting and also a bit scary as people were frightened of us punks and there were some nasty fights and attacks. But mostly it was great to be part of a movement that really shook up the trad music biz.
There were some stereotypes of punk, but many of us young kids made our clothes and so it was a real diverse mix of torn tees with safety pins, unusual designs , loads of hairstyles and gunk to help the hair stand up LOL!
There was lots of booze and drugs and all the venues were sticky floors and sweaty as 100s of us crowded in to see all the bands.
I honestly don't think there's anything today to compare to it!
I still feel a thrill when I hear the Sex Pistols etc!!!
The 70s era had many huge problems with poor housing, racism, strikes, unemployment and power cuts! London back in the day was quite grimy, and not as luxe as it looks today!
The Pistols sang about No Future, and as a homeless 16 year old it certainly felt miserable.
Punk was such a positive thing in my life.
I was, briefly, in a punk band, which was exciting, and many kids from working class or poor background were for the first time able to just form bands and not worry about lack of college or university music qualification!!!!
Tough times, but brilliant time of creativity!!
Love this band‼️😎🔥🎸🎼🎶
Rat Scabies, one of the best drummers of all time!
The Ginger Baker of punk.
London punk rock 70's forever!
First saw them at the Roundhouse in April 77 and it was such a buzz I was up all night long. Of course the line of speed I was given earlier may have helped.
The things we did!
Just seen The Damned live in my town. Amsterdam that is. So great to see the guys alive and punching for the first time. They said it was the best show of the tour so far, I'll take their word haha;p
Wow, killer footage! Thought I had seen all their old footage, but this is a new one on me. Thank you for putting this up.
Just saw them at House of blues New Orleans last night 40 years later and they were still incredible.
Monsieur Buster I saw them last year and I agree, they were fantastic! Real musicians and gents.
Sweaty, dark, unbridled goodness. Thank you.
I love how Brian always seems to be at his own, different gig.
I just saw them in concert yesterday. The original formation (with Paul Gray, but no Brian James, and not Roman Jugg). They might not have the same energy as in their youth years, but they were perfect, very professional and precise in performing their songs (Rat looked like a nerd drummer, casting every drum beat to the proper measure and hue). They truly sounded fantastic.
The days before the mohawk became a fashion statement, this is punk rock kids !!!
Great footage, and even though the audio isn't in synch, it's great, too!
Page, Plant and Bonham at audience one of these days on the Roxy
Pure Kino! Thnx!
The Captain playing bass. Great footage.
tbh i find him a much better bass player then guitar player
Brian James 🤩🎸
The Damned at their primitive punk best!
Brilliant!
Wow!! Very cool!
The Musicianship was and will never be questioned!
Careful not to get too close to the captain he’ll swing is bass in you’re face 😎
I saw the damned at Eric's Liverpool
It was so loud I'm still abit deaf.
Superb
Musicianship is right up there with the Pistols and the Heartbreakers; 'Damned, Damned, Damned' is a top five punk album.
They were slightly better musicians than the Pistols.
In terms of musical ability at *THAT* time, they were pretty well ahead of the Pistols. That’s not meant to put down the Pistols in any way, shape, or form. They were great in their own right, but the Damned could play their instruments with a considerable amount more ability. Dave wasn’t the greatest singer at this time (a few years later he’d become one of the best ever), but the rest of the Damned were well ahead of their peers in those early punk days.
That said, the Heartbreakers could play circles around all of ‘em.
Wow!
There like this song and what it is to it's music.
so geil - ich sah sie auch 1977
History being made here.
Dannatamente Dannati !!!
Those were the days, when you could be squashed up against another human without fear.
Still have the last two years. There's nothing to fear only your Government.
@Yes No Maybe for you .....

fan tan tistic ... Dam good
Shame brian left so early cos he was the driving force behind it all.
I saw him on the '79 iggy fall tour. Freaking great player. The show I saw is a real record now, called "Heroin Hates You".
He went on to another great project. With stiv and co
True that. But i think in their MGE period of 1979 they were spot on. That album is an absolute belter. And its when the Cap't switched to lead from Bass so he had some shoes to fill....... But Cap't has always shown he is in fact a superb guitarist in his own right. Mad as a hatter too, which helps hahahaha
He was the driving force behind this version of the Damned. When they regrouped in ‘78 with Captain switching to guitar they became more of a democracy. Everybody got to be part of the songwriting process and there weren’t any ‘bosses’ for a while, which isn’t to say that there weren’t any power struggles… but yeah with the original lineup it was definitely Brian’s band. He was without question the one in charge.
@@higherground7409I personally think that whole 3 year run from MGE through Strawberries was their best and most creative period ever. Then again I never actually saw the original lineup, so perhaps I lack a bit of insight there, but purely in terms of recordings I much prefer the ‘79-‘82 period to anything else.
Yes the best punk band ever been the band didn't give a shit at the time they have their own way how to make the music the best that is pure punk , the band never received any backing from the big record companies.First best and so real
Those Led Zep geezers were there and threatened!
У меня есть три CD , этой команды, привет из России!

Fan club greatest song by them imo absolutely timeless
Radddddddd!
Fucking awesome
If I could go back to that night I would go out the next day and buy up all the Star Wars toys I could get hold of.
how depressing
That's one thing to do. If I could go back I'd go to this show! I was too young to get into clubs in 1977, but if I was 21 it'd be perfect 😅
Strange thing to say here, but I get it. Who doesn’t want to be rich?
The captain cool as fuck
FUCKIN DAMNED!
La prima ondata punk inglese....
MISSION STATEMENT
Just wondering are they singing a different song New Rose perhaps!?
"I'm a phantom".
Called Fan Club
Is the song new rose? Doesnt really sound like it.. any one know what song this is? I could be wrong.
