US Sugar 148 in Original FEC Paint!

- This weekend, Sugar Express ran a two-day photo charter event across 100 miles of the SCFE system between Sebring and Okeelanta. 148 was authentically painted into its 1930s era Florida East Coast paint which was without a doubt the highlight of the event.
Unfortunately for us much of the action required a ticket and details about the schedule were very limited. It was just too much of a risk to venture too far either direction from Clewiston as 148's train could have arrived there at any time. A big hint to us however was an SCFE light engine waiting to go west from the north yard, which implied that 148 was not far west. As storm clouds were moving over us we found 148 and the freight portion of its train on the mainline at the Sugarton elevator about a mile northwest of downtown Clewiston. I got a shot of 148 as it arrived in town at San Luiz Avenue and paced it to the north shops where its run would end.
Another notable feature of the consist besides 148 was the restored 'Clewiston' observation car (from Pennsylvania RR) back in service. This car had work started more than a year ago and this weekend marked its first run.
There was not much cane train action to be had today besides the SCFE Childs cane jobs and a few USSC jobs on the east side of the system, but 148 having been restored to its old look was ultimately the highlight of the visit. - Авто та транспорт
Awesome video! 148 sure looks great in original FEC livery. Also happy to see that former Pennsy observation car have a new lease on life.
Glad to see she's got the correct type of headlight back. Now if she can be given back a decent Nathan 6-chime whistle, that would be awesome. IIRC, FEC's light Pacifics historically had chime whistles.
The thunderstorm rolling in sure brings back memories!
Great catches awesome chase and nice video
WOW! I, along with many others, have been wishing that #FEC148 have her original livery... and US Sugar certainly didn't disappoint! I bet that up there, 'ole Henry Flagler would be smiling, happy that one of his steamers is still running around!
Awesome shots!!! Mighty big whistle for a little high-driver Pacific, gotta love it. Looks great with fresh paint, and the darker graphite on the smokebox was a great choice in my book. 🔥
Awesome and I love steam trains and Florida east coast railroad train 148 and I like the color
She looks perfect with this FEC livery!
Every time without wearing a 5 chime whistle. This is just sad when they changed her whistle again. Just want to hear her beautiful 5 chime whistle to listen our ears.
Had a chance to climb up on this one up close. Beautiful job.
Digging its FEC look! Could get used to it.
Great shots! This also gives me renewed hope that US Sugar shall, at least at some point, have Atlantic Coast Line 1504 in her ACL appearance at some point. I also hope that they use her original whistle on her as well. Based on photos I saw of her from her display in Jacksonville, I'm certain she still has it. I've only found two videos of an ACL whistle in use so far and they're both on one of the Cass Scenic shays. It be great to hear one on an actual ACL steamer.
Magnificent catches of the trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars.
Thumbs up.
Keep up the perfect work, my friend, liked and subscribed, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Love it ❤❤❤
Finally a whistle that suits her
It's too deep and muscular for an engine of that size; not the right sound for 148.
I thing They Should Keep That Paint scheme and The 5 Chime Whistle on the 148
Say, they got the observation car all set! But I wish they could’ve kept that 6 chime on her
it’s possible they might still have it, but i’m not sure when or if it will come back
Nice video
The whistle does not sound like it should be on this locomotive. Sounds like it should be on a UP big boy, or a streamliner
The CB&Q 5 chime whistle that 148 had suits it much better. As much as I like N&W 611's whistle from the 90s nothing will suit 148 more than its original 5 chime
@@HueyRailfanning oh shoot, if that’s 611’s whistle that makes much more sense lmao
thats a pretty muscular sounding whistle. Reminded me of 4014
i was thinking the exact same thing. Sounds way deeper than the size lol
Sounds incongruous for a locomotive of that size. . .
Foamer mod on!
The steam engine be looking very distinguished
They should make it look a little like 113 (White walls on drive wheels, white outlining on drive rods, and white stars on the tops of the cylinders)
It would be good to see but it's very unlikely for 148
@@HueyRailfanning Come to think of it, I think it would be a bit unlikely. Do you have any word on when 148 will have her old paint back? (prior to her being painted like this)
@@ivanthevaluable2559 apparently they're doing it this week
It looks so good, I think they should keep it that way don’t you agree
absolutely, but this was just for the weekend
Were they using 611's whistle?
Yes
So what whistle is 611 using? Is this the one that they wouldn’t give back to Fire Up 611, or something?
Give this whistle back to 611. Pacific locomotives had what 1401 in Washington DC which is a Southern railway PS-4. 😊
@@amyreynolds3619 Museum's often times let other organizations borrow items such as whistles. VMT has done this several times in the past, its nothing new.
@@FS2K4Pilotthis is the Claytor whistle, not what 611 is currently wearing. 611 wore that in the 80’s and 90’s, not what it’s wearing now.
What isgoing on with the ACL ps5 locomotive?
There always has to be a diesel with steamer. I hate that.
it’s only because of the lack of loops or wyes to turn the train around on. 148 is easily able to pull the train without the diesel, but unfortunately most round-trip excursions have a diesel
