@raffle baffle I believe that the age to vote is fine as it is, if lowered then we will have people voting without have done any research or finding their own political beliefs. It would create a downfall in votes not being valid and they will mean less when people that are younger could vote. Even at the age you can vote now it’s pretty low.

Perot was the last time we saw a "third" party candidate in the Presidential debates because they changed the rules to make sure third party candidates do not debate the D and the R. That changed happened when the League of Women Voters were forced out of organizing the Presidential debates.

The two party system has dominated thus far, but is not sustainable because America is too fragmented. Around 40% of Americans now identify as Independents, ~30% as Dems, and 25% as Repubs. (Source: Gallup May/Jun '20). The Left isn't a monolithic entity anymore; the moderates have more in common with Independents than with the far left. A third ('Centrist') party that appeals to Independents and moderates in both parties, could lead to a 3 party system: Socialists (Dem party minus moderates), Centrists and Conservatives (Repub party minus moderates). This would align better with people's interests, and possibly encourage more people to vote. Over the past 50 years, 50+% of the electorate has NOT voted every election. In 2016, for example, more than 100 million eligible voters did not vote.
Candidates from each party could run and the top two in terms of electoral college votes would be President and VP. The Cabinet could also have candidates from all 3 parties (Lincoln appointed his opponents to Cabinet in 1860). Elected representatives from all 3 parties would be in Congress. This kind of a partnership/coalition approach may be a better way to run the country than the current 'winner takes all' approach. At the very least, Congressmen/women will have more incentive to work better with each other, across the aisle, as each will have 'their guy' in the Executive. As a bonus, the 24/7 news/social media driven partisan BS will subside.

Libertarians are basically a weird mix of Republicans and Democrats. Sometimes I find myself agreeing with a Libertarian candidate at times and sometimes I don't. I do think they are the biggest third party and the one that has the most potential of breaking our 2-party system. Or even replacing one of the 2 major parties. Think of how it would be to haeLibertarian vs Democrats in elections?

Libertarians are more republican/conservative than anything. The only left wing/democratic ideology that libertarians have is the call for same sex marriage and all drug legalization. Everything else is essentially conservative stuff or things heavily leaned towards Republican ideology

Libertarian here, when you get into it, we aren't 1/2 Democrat + 1/2 Republican. For example, Democrats, while supporting some individual liberties, still support the surveillance state, and are anti-2A to name a couple of things. We do agree with Republicans on what should be done with the welfare state, but it basically ends there. They support the federal reserve, we don't. They support bailouts, we don't. Etc

What if the People's Party, the Greens, the Libertarian Party, the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), and all minor parties were to announce, "We will be separate parties again in the future, but until we get Approval Voting in every State, we are going under the banner of the People's Party. We ask everyone to join our parties and get on our mailing lists if you have affinity for our ideologies at all, but also help organize the People's Party and vote for People's-Party candidates until we have won Approval Voting. The Americans have everything to gain and nothing to lose by following this plan. It is the shortest and least violent path to the defeat of corporate rule."

The OWL Party of Washington was a minor political party founded in a jazz club, the Tumwater Conservatory, in Tumwater, Washington, to field candidates in the 1976 elections. It was founded by entertainer Red Kelly, owner of the establishment where it was founded. The party's name was a double acronym, standing for "Out With Logic, On With Lunacy", and its motto was "We don't give a hoot!"[1] The ease with which this frivolous party gained access to a place on the ballot led the Washington legislature to significantly increase the difficulty of minor-party access. The changes were challenged, ultimately for the most part unsuccessfully, by established minor parties such as the Socialist Worker

I guess you could also say that its because it is in support of both Free Markets and Anti-Corporatism. Meaning; Politicians nor Corporations are allowed to use Government force/power to control the economy. The Consumers, Workers, and Firms each get a cut in steering it. Though one would believe companies and corporations would dominate, one must remember that all the money that keeps those Firms afloat come from Consumers, and without Labor they can't provide the service or good. Thus, no income for the firm.
