We have a road here in NC we call Topless Trail because it takes you under a bridge that has ripped the roof off of so many trucks. Happens at least once a day no joke
THIS! This is the correct way to handle this situation. Never just assume you'll fit and always be cautious of bridges, measure when you aren't sure you'll fit.
Bridges that require trucks to use a specific lane are fairly common. In Atlanta / Decatur there is a concrete arch railroad bridge on Ponce De Leon built when the street was 2 lane. It was later widened. The outside lanes are fine for cars, trucks need to use inner lanes. It is well marked.
Glad to know that there are some good truckers out there with intelligence and situational awareness enough to stop and check rather than blindly rolling on into a wreck! Atta-boy!

Yes at night it's especially dangerous to wear hi vis because drunk and sleepy drivers are drawn right to it. This is why they say not to put your hazards on when you are pulled over on the side of the road.. Just get out of the car and turn the lights off.
Or instead of going west under the bridge, turn east out of the lot and take the highway around it. 10 mins tops. Its Mansfield Ohio, thanks to the Graham Hyundai sign. East on W 4 St, north on Trimble Road, west on the 30, natural ramp onto the 309 and cloverleaf into the Kia dealership west of the bridge. No going under bridges or taking time to measure.

The measurements on bridges always state the lowest point of the bridge. Also this measurement changes over time depending on when it was last blacktopped or the bridge/ground settling. It might not be much but a quarter inch here and a half inch there add up
That close, I would have at least asked the dealer for a couple drivers to take the top half. Then deliver the bottom half as normal. Good job mother trucker. 👍

They need to make car haulers that have droppable air bags on all axles including steers. That’ll give us 3-4”. Drop it to go under then raise it back up.

We are consistently over 14' down south and out west. NE and midwest, we tone it down a bit, but we still gotta manage, unless you want your new Kia turned into a convertible.

A trucker who takes his job seriously. My dad would have been so proud. He hated what the trucking profession became after he quit driving. That man had 2million safe driving miles under his belt.
Honestly the healthy trucker part hit hard for me. My dad is an old style car hauler. With dirty hands and a large belly. I grew up with him doing everything he could to be there for my birthdays, but still some times not making it. He has some health issues and I know that he probably won't be around to see me get married since I'm still in high school. He gave me his 58 ford ranchero and we're fixing it up together but I know that his career has taken a toll on him.
My husband is a car hauler who has been doing this job for over 30 yrs. He does what you just did, or he takes routes that he doesn't go under bridges. Before he leaves the yard while loaded, he is constantly measuring he is also checking the weight on his truck. Don't forget to also think about low tree branches hanging, especially if they have snow or rain, making branches lower. You car haulers are awesome.
That stick needs to be on every truck as a mandatory piece of equipment. Your GPS messed up and sent you a direction outside of preset perimeters. Thankfully you had the snap to double check yourself and the bridge before attempting it. Damn fine job sir, keep up the good work.

most bridges should be marked as the lowest point. so 13'7" is minimum clearance.
Repaving or repairing can alter all numbers safer to use the G.O.A.L method always safer
