Malaysia was a bit odd for me. It started when my plane landed in Penang. The flight attendant made (roughly) the following announcement: "Welcome to Malaysia. The local time is 1:15 PM and the temperature is 28 Celsius. We'd like to remind you that the penalty for drug possession in Malaysia is death. Have a nice day!" That "Have a nice day" coming after a death warning was one of my weirdest travel experiences.

I feel like they would have to say that because there have been issues in the past with foreigners. Many countries it is illegal to have drugs and the penalty would be death. Was anything abroad odd just being there.

@à la claire fontaine Im not sure either, Im malaysian too. What I can tell is, people here see drug addicts as criminals. My eldest sis married a guy and my parents accidentally found out he did drugs. Instant divorce.
It might be because people here associated drug with violence. Drug addicts have to buy drugs a lot, and its expensive, especially if the source is illegal. So we have a lot of cases where drug addicts murdered their own parents and family for money in order to buy drugs.
So you get it, we didnt think very favourably towards those who did drugs. Not sure why the penalty of those who sold/give it is death though... we have cases where irresponsible greedy people tricked children to pass drugs to their clients by telling them 'Hey, can you help me and pass this box to uncle over there? We will give you chocolate bar as a reward!'
then, bam! Police stopped the kid and start questioning them, and when the kid tried to point to the person who told him to give out the box, the person is nowhere to be found.
I remember how hard my school press out to us as kids 'Do not, in any circumstances, accept something from strangers when they ask you to give it to somebody else. The thing they gave you is drug.'
That, or foreigners or tourists came to Malaysia, and drug smuggler asked them to watch their suitcase, and the suitcase turns out to have drugs inside. Or they put it in your suitcase.

Islam cures all nasty desases if you practice it correctly. There would be no drunkies, no loss of homes because of gambling it away, no broken homes because of what I just said and more, no theft because hands would be chopped (if u don't regret and give it back) no cartels. No killing of innocent people. And the list goes on and on. So many crazy things happening on earth. Islam keeps me aways from all of that.

It was strange because on the streets there were no cars everyone was just riding these electric scooters and bikes.
Another reason is because there are only very fancy restaurants and coffee shops and it seems like the country likes to be materialistic but old at the same time.

Hi , I'm from Djibouti and quite amused by your view on djibouti. I find it quite amazing and I always though everything is cheap here until you said it was not. I'm quite proud of my country and of our current president. just 20 years ago , nothing existed in djibouti not even universities. We are somalian people but were just colonized and divided by the crazy french. Almost 40% of students speaks at least 4 language and more than 60% of the population speaks at least 2 language. Most african countries had been in war since their independance but despite the differences in religion and ethnicity we still live in peace, so I'm proud of that. A lot of money are spend on education and creating jobs. I seriously never felt the "heavely securized" thing. We can walk aroud dressing however we want. Djiboutian may seem racist but it is just the way we talk, by describing people or object. So I hope you don't get offended when someone describ you, that is just the way they communicate.

I went to bulgaria for a weekend and it was really weird, but i LOVED it so much and i think about those 2 days all the time. Bulgaria (especially sofia) is beautiful!!!

@@vikicha13 The first restaurant I went to had a candy bowl of free cigarettes on the way out. The cigs were very narrow but like twice as long as normal cigs. I saw more murals than I’d ever seen before, and there were kids in tiny gokarts and cars EVERYWHERE. Shots of absinthe were 50¢, and i was 18, I’d never been so drunk in my life. But most of all, i loved that i was one of the only tourists around. I bought my all time favorite shirt, an adidas T with parrots, at the Sofia mall. Wore it as recently as yesterday. Bulgaria was basically my favorite country I’ve ever been, minus morocco

@@geography_joe Is this Sofia? I've been to hundreds of restaurants and never seen these cigarettes :)). What murals man, what are you talking about :D. Go-carts? I can agree about the numerous cars and cheap alcohol, but the other part seems like a trip hihi. Which year was that as well?

@@vikicha13 I just mean that sofia had a lot of street art, like public art on buildings and graffiti. It was super cool, i especially remember the big chupa chups mural. This was october 2017

Everyone are talking about travelling to Japan, USA, Italy and France, but I think it looks more exciting to travel to a more less known country. You'll never know what's awaiting you in these more unknown countries.
