    I really learnt how to do my button holes now. You presented it in a pretty good way by going slowly. On the top of that you covered all kinds in one presentation. Thank you

    I'm making a granny square 'join as you go' cardigan by MJ Designs, and I am not happy with the elasticity of a crochet band, so thought I would do a 'knit' band, and it turned out super nice for the waist, but I wondered HOW to do buttonholes and what kind, for the front band, and here is the perfect video for me! Thank you SO MUCH! I will do the vertical buttonhole, I like the tight finish, and think it will hold up for years of use.

    I’ve been making socks where if you are toe up, you want a very stretchy bind off. Certainly good for socks but not too stretchy for a button band. When I first learned to knit, I just had one cast on and one cast off. I don’t want to count the numbers I’ve learned since UA-cam, but it has really improved my knitting.
    Thank you for all you do for knitters of all skills.

    Thank you for your tutorials and for the attention to detail, which you provide. I always turn to your podcasts, when I don’t understand how to use a method. I recently had a problem when, the button band I knitted became tight and curved on the cast-off row. I hadn’t realised that it was necessary to create a formula, in order to prevent this happening.

    I am so grateful for your button band and hole tutorials! The four-stitch bound off hole is perfect for my mother-in-law’s Aran cardigan. Her arthritis and vision problems had kept her from finishing an almost completed long cabled cardigan (so much meticulously done work!). I could not stand to let her toss it out, even though I am an advanced beginner but have never knitted a cardigan before, AND she had misplaced the pattern. So I read and mirrored her work to finish the left front, sewed all five pieces together, but then was stumped…until I found your tutorials. Hallelujah 😊 thank you, thank you, thank you! Matched her work and turned out lovely.

    This is a wonderful video. I was looking for a more neat way to do a horizontal button hole. This is brilliant. I’ve seen a few different videos and their instructions didn’t work when I did it. And I mean I did it over and over and over and it never came out just right. Yours is perfect and looks so clean. Thank you so much. I hoped that it was written out in the show notes. I guess I’ll just have to watch the video over and over until it sticks. Thank you again.

I have a K3P2 ribbing for my button hole band, so I can't find a button hole stitch that works following button hole techniques for either K1P1 or K2P2 ribbing. Thanks! Doing buttonholes for the first time and was trying to find a video to make sense out of the directions.
    I don't know if you can help me, but I like the buttonhole with the 4 stitch bind off the best. What would you use in a 1x1 rib band, bulky yarn, tight knitter, and 7/8 buttons? 2 stitch bind off? Not a big fan of that single YO buttonhole that my pattern calls for. Doesn't look as professional as the bind off buttonhole. Not that I'm anywhere near a professional, but I do like my knitting to look as nice as I can manage.
    And off topic, who on earth downvotes a knitting video? Even if I didn't understand your presentation (which I did, thanks), I wouldn't downvote a knitting video. I'd just toddle along and find one I did understand. Some people... although I do agree with the one commenter who said that perhaps one type buttonhole at a time might have been better for those of us who are a little slower to catch on.

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  3 роки тому +1

      For your situation, I would work a swatch with your ribbing and try both buttonholes. For ⅞" buttons in bulky yarn, you might only need to bind off 2 stitches for the horizontal buttonhole. One for the buttonhole and one to slip over the left stitch. Let me know what you find. Also, on the thumbs down votes, I just ignore them. But, I like you, wonder why. Thank you for your support and happy knitting. 🧶

      @@SuzanneBryan Thanks very much! LOL...I detest doing swatching, but better that than mess up my fabric, I suppose. It's a calf length hooded vest, and I'd rather swatch than mess up weeks of work.

    Is it possible to adjust the size of the one row horizontal button hole according to the size of my button, for example, one stitch smaller? I love how it looks but my buttons are quite small.

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, absolutely, and the size of the button hole not only depends on the size of the button but also the weight of the yarn. A heavier weight yarn will require fewer stitches and lighter yarn will require more stitches. Always swatch and test the button going through the button hole. Good luck!

      I’d like to see the third buttonhole demonstrated by itself. I’m trying to make a three stitch buttonhole, on 9 stitches of 1x1 ribbing and am really confused!😢

    How do you decide which one to do? The size of the button?

      Yes, by the button. The buttonhole needs to be much smaller than the button, Knitting stretches quite a bit. More than you would think.

      Did you know that you can change the playback speed of the videos on UA-cam? Look for the gear icon and click on it. Sometimes you will have to find the three little dots to click on to get to the gear icon. Once you see the gear icon, click on it and you can see the playback speed, you can slow it down or speed it up.
