- 6 FUN ideas to fill your sketchbook and also help you get over an art block! Many of these ideas can be recycled and used over and over again!
I’ve been going through an artblock…but instead of completely stepping away from drawing, I’ve found it fun and effective to just experiment with completely different drawing styles, and gradually let the fun of drawing ooze back into my daily life. My sketchbook ideas:
-DTIYS challenges
-drawing an existing character in another style
-take fashion stickers or cut clothes out of magazines and draw characters wearing them
-find drawing instructions to draw something you’ve never drawn before
-go to a random drawing idea generator
-reference a photo of an outfit and color it in a completely different color palette

Thanks for the tips. I went to school for art and you are a better drawing teacher than any I had there.
I fill an A6 calendar with tiny daily drawings. So even when I’m not in the mood to draw, I am still exercising my art brain. I use ballpoint so I can vary my lines and shade in a little space. One month might be filled with just one ink color. Another, a mix of inks or even watercolor. I like to draw things in front of me, or sometimes emojis if I want to simply express feelings or practice facial expressions. Sometimes, I like to do this as like an art journal, to document my day. This month, I decided to do contour drawings every day of my late dog since it would’ve been his birth month.

I LOVE these ideas!!! I struggle with realism. Recently when I got stuck, I went in my yard and grabbed some leaves that have fallen from the trees. I traced them and then had fun watercoloring my traced leaves. I was such a fun process!

Love your vids. This one in particular as I too love to do realistic portraits but am feeling kinda blocked. I think I am going to try your approach to just keep drawing. When You do your relatives portraits, do you draw them from scratch first and also once you have the line drawing do you transfer them to the appropriate drawing surface? Thanks for sharing.
