I've been working manually and searching knowing there had to be a way. After a couple of days I find your video and it is just what I need! Excuse me while I hit that subscribe button.
Indeed that is one way now called "Polygon Islands to Objects" in R25, BUT I prefer the Fracture Object method because it automatically centers the axis to each island without having to do that later. Should have mentioned that though in my video!
Brilliant. It would be great if one could adjust the threshold/sensitivity by how large the exploded segments should be. Still, what's the main benefit of this trick compared to Poly Islands to Object?
Amazing. I had an icon made up of about 100 cubes and need to separate them to light them randomly with Signal. Not sure I could have made it work without this tip.
In Cinema, there is also a 1-click option called "Polygon Islands to objects" under the tools menu at the bottom under "convert" but the Fracture Object method also automatically centers the axis to each islands bounding box.
@@UTDMAN4EVA That's a great question. I would have to do some testing to see if there's a way. There's probably a way to do it with like a python script or something.
@@shawnastrom Let us know if you find something. I tried everything under the sun and still have no other choice but to extract one model at the time, which is forcing me to go with Kitbash Kargo. I have some of their packs for C4D but now that I'm switching towards Unreal, I wanna find the easy way of using the same assets rather than buying them again. Anyway...love your tutorials and appreciate your time.
They did not. It's still there and called "Polygon Islands to Objects". The method in this tutorial also automatically centers the axis per "Island" formally called groups. The Fracture Object method performs two operations at once and I also like to be able to check the islands this way.
@@shawnastrom Yes, sorry my bad. I did install the R12 to test it and it really does the same as "Polygon Groups to Objects" in R21. However I tried separating grouped smart objects from ArchiCAD with the Explode Method you've shown and it doesn't work even though they are with different textures.
Great, I had the fracture down but didn't think of the 'make editable' cheers!
Thank you!! Polygon Islands to Objects wasn't working, and Clone > Split was taking too long, so this was perfect
just what i was searching for. quick and precise, thanks
thank god for this tutorial
Awesome tip!
This is amazing. I was mentally preparing myself to select thousands of polygons manually. Thank you.

umoshiroi ! the second time watched, got it ! amazing awesome simple efficient...
the world needs more of those... cheers from Rio
Thank you a lot!
You deserve a subscribe.
you saved my life at work today!!! thank you for this tutorial!
Super useful tip! Thanks for sharing it.
the command "polygon groups to object" for direct splitting it's faster in the case of a complex geometry.

Thanks Shawn! You saved me a bunch of working hours! :)
Shawn, LIFESAVER!!!!! Thank you sir!
Great help, thank you!
This is exactly what I was trying to do, thanks so much!
This saved me a TON of time on my current project! Thank you!
Great to hear this! Good luck with the rest of it!
OMGGGGGGGGG MORE Please and Thank you

This was sooooo useful. Thank you so much! 🙌
Straight forward and helpful, cheers.
So, this little workflow was right in front of my eyes all this time : | Thanks!

thanks Shawn ! Cool you that youre back here !
This is going to save me so much time! I used to do it with the first method you've shown. Thanks!
That's just so simple it's ingenious. Thanks!!
This is everything! thank you so much
Thanks, from 2023 version there is a faster way to do this: Tools > Convert > Polygon Islands to Objects😉
Wow, thank You!
you save my life sir
Amazing thank you
Saved me a hell of a lot of time, thank you!!
Glad it helped!
thanks!!
OH MAN .... priceless tip > T H A N K YOU SO much
Thank you, it was I needed!
So obvious that i never think about it ! Thanks a lot for the tip, you saved me a loooooooooot of time ! 🙂👍
Happy to help!
Thanks for this! In Maya this is a one-click thing but in C4D it seems to be quite hidden.

@@shawnastrom great insight, thank you!
Omg thank you!!! I was about to spend hours cutting polygons 😂
YOU ARE A SAVIOUR!
You are an absolute life saver. Thank you!
Great! Thanks a lot!
Thanks so much, this was really helpful :)!
thank you king
Awesome thanks a lot
That was nice!
Thanks :)
How would you go about exporting them as separate objects in one go rather than exporting one by one. Is that even possible?

thanks. so useful
Nice tip!
Awsome!! Exactly what I needed to split a uge city.Thank you so much for the trick
There was an option to explode objects back in Cinema R12 witch did basically the same thing as your tutorial. Hell why they removed it.
They did not. It's still there and called "Polygon Islands to Objects". The method in this tutorial also automatically centers the axis per "Island" formally called groups. The Fracture Object method performs two operations at once and I also like to be able to check the islands this way.

Thank you, where can I find "Polygon Islands to Objects" in R25?
Thank you so much. It helped.
