    November 9th, 2022 Question Timestamps:
    -------------------------------------------
    1:03 - There has been a recent push-back towards meta/self-referential comedy in media that tends to defuse the tension of any given scene or overall tone of a story. Think that one narrated Forspoken trailer or any kind of Whedonesque joke in a major blockbuster film, i.e. "well, that just happened." I personally believe that a joke or situation shouldn't have to tell you the joke or why it's funny. I do however think there is a place for it, such as with Sonic Boom or even in the Marvel movies where a situation may be so absurd or cliché, it may demand a degree of self-awareness to have the audience more on board, but this often comes at the expense of the sincerity and consequences of the story. My question is, where do you think the line should be drawn with meta humor, especially when it comes in an earnest story?
    6:11 - I recently finished a Sonic Universe binge and it's got me wondering, can we expect to get any spin off comics focusing on support/side characters in this continuity, kind of like the Tangle & Whisper mini series we got way back in 2019. I'd personally love to see Omega blow up robots for 10 issues straight or catch up with Blaze and Marine as they fend off threats to the Sol Emeralds.
    7:27 - As we all know worlds collide is one of the best crossovers, but we sadly couldn't see an interaction between the blue bombers and the blue blurs evil green twins, so basically what I'm getting at is how do you think an interaction between Quint and Scourge would go?
    9:09 - What's the better 80s cartoon rock ballad, The Touch by Stan Bush from the Transformers Movie, or Run With Us from The Raccoons, but specifically the cover done by Lisa Lougheed as the single to her debut album Evergreen Nights?
    11:13 - Hi Diddly Ho, Ian and Kyle-arino, So, this has been on my mind for a bit, and I'm curious to know what an FMA would think. Which, of each, Deadly Six member most closely resembles each of Father's homunculi?
    16:43 - In a confrontation with Rough and Tumble in Echo Mine, Sonic the Hedgehog became one of the first victims of the metal virus. But how would things have played out differently had it been Amy Rose that was infected instead of Sonic? How badly crippled would the Restoration have been without its leader? Would Tails have been able to think up an antidote without knowledge that Sonic's speed could burn off the virus? How differently would Sonic's fights against the zombots have been with him unable to physically touch them?
    20:49 - What's the deepest, most thought-provoking question you guys have ever been asked? Doesn't have to be from a BumbleKast Q&A.
    23:10 - We know Surge hates Sonic, but it was Starline who made her hate him, and we know Surge hates Starline a LOT. So.. just for hilarity’s sake. What if Surge then decided to do the exact opposite, and DATE Sonic instead? Just for the sole reason to spite Starline and his plan?
    -------------------------------------------
    25:38 - *Ad. Please consider helping out!*
    -------------------------------------------
    26:13 - Since Surge & Kit are cyborgs with a bit of the Metal virus in them to heal their injuries, does it also heal against sickness, disease, hunger, anything a normal person may suffer naturally making them immune to all those? Or does it only heal injuries?
    26:58 - This has been on the back of my mind for a bit so I'd like to get your interpretation on it: The Wisp Lifecycle.
    28:22 - Okay! Before I ask anymore questions, I need to know: Where is the line between a "Hypothetical" and "Fan Idea"? Is it detail? Like if I ask "How would Sonic and friends handle being thrown into the Warhammer 40K universe?" would be a hypothetical? But if I ask "What if after a take over from the Empire of Man, Dr. Robotnik is inducted into the Imperium, and rises through the ranks as an Adeptus Mechanicus. Can he take over from the inside with only a remote, cloaked Metal Sonic?... and the Giant Alligator from Lost Jungle causes havok as a wild card?" Is that enough of a "plotline" to be a ""fan-idea"? (P.S: I actually don't know that much about Warhammer 40K but the art does look very cool.)
    30:05 - Ian in my opinion the quote from tikal about chaos that people use to scale him and sonic to planet buster is taken out of context. The quote in question was he’ll ""eventually"" destroy the world like he did ""before."" This is out of context because
    1.The quote implies chaos can’t destroy the world in one since they used the word eventually means the process is gradual.
    2. The quote implies Chaos had already destroyed the world before he was sealed which can’t be the case since the planets are still there, remains of the echidna city still exist and we see the land around the master emerald altar isn’t destroyed or even flooded when tikal sealed chaos away.
    So clearly chaos didn’t destroy the whole world, not even the whole surface considering there are still remains of the echidna city.
    32:13 - [Do] you get the impression that some adult Sonic fans may be expecting too much from a franchise whose main focus is children? I know that children are not stupid, they understand deep things, but when I was a child at least, I was more interested in fun and action than drama.
    34:38 - A serious question from the pizza man being me. In terms of size and Scale of the Game Sonic Cosmology, is it only a 4Dimensional cosmology?
    35:12 - We all know that the events of Sonic 06 and everything within that storyline has been erased and now cease to exist. However, I don't recall Shadow being sealed away by humanity's fear of his power actually being part of the plot derived by Mephiles or anything that would have been changed by the events of the game one way or the other. To be fair, with his personality and motivation as it is now, there is definitely more reason for them to do so, and I can't recall anything that would have changed that future from coming along that would have been erased. So, while it is obvious they will not get to that point in the games again, would Shadow's eventual future still be to be sealed away by humanity?
    36:36 - I think the reason Sega may have been so hesitant to have humans and "Mobians" co-existing for so long (aside from the stigma surrounding the games and shows that included human characters and the portrayal of said human characters, but that's another issue) may be due to art style dissonance. I think that if human characters were drawn like the characters from Balan Wonderworld, they'd look a lot less off-putting when standing next to Sonic and his friends. Of course, you'd still have to actually write compelling, likable, and well-rounded human characters, but that's another story entirely. What do you two think? Here's hoping Sage from Frontiers will do what Mimic is trying to do and open the door for the return of the Overlanders.
    38:29 - Surge vs Larxene (from Kingdom Hearts), who wins?
    -------------------------------------------
    40:01 - Thanks to those who support the show
    42:12 - Move Kyle
    43:17 - Don’t ask a genie for “time off”

    Story is great, didn't expect such a massive lore dump. There is a really strong foundation with this game, and hopefully the story presentation is even stronger next time. --- Mild to moderate Frontiers spoilers ---
    As the Nocturnus Clan have been banished to the Noncanon Zone, is it a safe assumption that the Ancients from Frontiers are the ones who made the Gizoids? I imagine their ability copying would work very well with the memories stored in Cyberspace.
    Another question (Putting in same comment for ease, I'm not expecting these both to be answered together):
    The Babylonians seem to have quite a bit in common with the Ancients when it comes to technology, including their stone spaceship and the Babylon Guardian (a digital construct). The Babylonians are famous for being thieves - did they steal this technology from the Ancients?

    I think about the first question alot and the example I always come back to for that comes from the spongebob movie. It's the scene where they've been placed under a heat lamp and they're having the life sucked out of them. They went on this whole journey to shell city just to prove that they aren't dumb kids and that they actually can handle themselves in the real world, and now they're dying because they acted like dumb kids. And we go from the despair of them dying and having failed everyone and themselves, to them realizing that they're in shell city, they actually did make it. So they rest their heads back happily accepting the situation, having proven to themselves that they could do it, even if they are just dumb kids. Every time I watch the movie this scene makes me either tear up or cry because it's such an emotional rollercoaster. But I'm also laughing the entire time because the scene is fucking hilarious. And I think it works because every joke they tell builds off of how tragic the scene is and instead of distracting you from the tragedy, it's used to emphasize it. Like they emphasize how severe the situation is right out the gate by having spongebobs arm dry out snap off, already a funny visual, but then Patrick tries to help by reaching over and putting it back on, but he puts it on backwards so for the next few shots SB's arm is held up in a crooked awkward position. Every joke in the scene is like this and I think it does a great job at lightening the mood without outright taking you out of it.
    Not a universal example by any means, it's a comedy and there's a precedent for the jokes set there, but it's also the only time I've seen a movie continuously tell jokes over an emotionally impactful scene while still delivering the impact that it wanted to

  • @metalskulkbanepl161
    @metalskulkbanepl161 Рік тому +1

    32:13 - On one hand it's common problem with growing up: you don't want to abandon a franchise you loved, but you know it's "kiddy", so many people want franchises to age with them. This led to stuff like Bay Transformers. A better way of growing up (in my opinion) is understanding that franchise is aimed at kids, but you can still like it and there is nothing wrong with that.
    WITH THAT SAID
    There are so many cartoons like Steven Universe or Gravity Falls that push the boundaries of what children's media can be. I mean, if it can be funny, colorful, and tell a deep narrative. Why not have both? Plus in Sonic's case many fans just want Sonic Adventure 1&2 levels, which isn't irrational.
    As for demanding for the "dark serious stuff" a lot of kids (well, tweens) want to be treated as adults and are drawn to stuff they think are adult. Heck, I Flynn mentioned that when he got his first Sonic comic instead of X-men one. So I think it's reasonable to ask if Sonic can be as "gritty" as, let's say, 2012 Ninja Turtles. (Sure there are extreme opinions. There are ALWAYS extreme opinions).
    35:12 - My headcanon is that Mephiles can see potential futures, but in a limited way. If Shadow did join him, he would be partially responsible for Iblis being released, so humans would turn on him and imprison him. A self-fulfilling prophecy. Kinda like telling Silver "Sonic will be involved in releasing Iblis, go kill him".
    30:05 - Frieza or Galactus are a "Planet Buster" level of threat. Perfect Chaos is (in my opinion) a "Planet Ravager". Former break planets into pieces or dust, latter at best destroy everything on its surface and even then probably fishes or cockroaches survive.

    The six and the main seven deadly sins aren't as impossible to make comparisons with as you think, here's my take...
    Zomom=most gluttonous glutton to ever glut
    Zik=uses the 6 by proxy to guard/have land to grow his material possessions/fruit garden, thus paralleling avarice
    Zor=depression was actually considered a separate sin once until it was rolled into sloth since you are unmotivated to do anything
    Zeena=the scenes where zavok butters her up with traits being more embodied by her peers and sonic mocks her lack of friends (with both getting a her motivated and a rise out of her respectively) , along with her general color scheme would make a decent parallel to envy
    Zazz= is essentially a more kid friendly version of lust, with his tone whenever thinking of fighting has in completely excited for the match and always ready for more, being an example of bloodlust rather than sensual lust
    Zavok=his entire motivation for the game was getting revenge for what eggman did to him and his crew (even though a person from the same world as eggman freed them) making him a more methodical form of wrath that is actively planning how to cause the most destruction rather than just being a berserker
    Conch holder(s)=eggman and starline both believed that they could control six demons by tooting on (their own/a) horn, and in both cases pride went before the fall (not to mention that pride is thought to be the origin of all the other sins)

    ~~~This has got pretty major Frontiers spoilers, so if you want to remain spoiler free, please scroll away~~~
    Heya Ian and Kyle, I hope you're doing well.
    First and foremost, Ian congrats on the release of Frontiers. I've been playing thru the game myself, and it's simply sublime. The characters feel so accurate, probably the most since 06.
    However, there is a quick question I have about one of the new characters introduced
    ~~~SPOILERS START HERE~~~
    So the Ancients have a liquid body similar to Chaos, so much so that Eggman even points it out in one of the Egg Memos.
    On the surface, this leads me to assume that this means Chaos got a bit of a retcon and is no longer a mutated Chao, but in fact, an Ancient. However, after thinking about it, they may not be the case, and Chaos can still technically be a mutated Chao.
    What I'm thinking is Chaos is an Ancient that escaped to Angel Island. Sometime during their life, they lost their Koco, and with nothing to tether them and write their soul onto, they collapse into a proto-plasmic clear liquid.
    A plus side of this, however, is this singular Ancient survives their species extinction and lives on for thousand upon thousands of years. Until one day, a lone Chao approached what it thought was water to take a drink. The liquefied Ancient believes this is a replacement Koco and starts to absorb this foreign creature before it released its not a little rocky fella.
    This caused this Chao to merge with the liquefied Ancient and create the all-powerful God of destruction Chaos.
    This is my understanding of the new story behind Chaos, but is it accurate? Am I way off kilter, or am I right on the money? Thanks!
    Edit: I forgot to take out a rewritten segment, woops, lol.

      Also spoilers for the same reason:
      My understanding is that the Chao are the Ancients/their descendants who retreated to Angel Island and that being close to the Master Emerald caused them to mutate into that form. Chaos is still a mutated Chao, just one that's mutated back into looking a lot more like an Ancient. I personally got the impression that the Ancients had solid bodies but I suppose nothing's stopping them from being liquid-y.

    Just remember you can create more Zetis, just so You can create a seventh Zeti.
    And that Zeti Will obviously be Greed because he has no association with the other six.
    This isnt a fan idea btw, just a joke.

    IDW has many contradictions with the games so is it just a parallel/alternate universe to the games? Also with Sonic Frontiers referencing Tangle, that confirms Sonic Forces Speed Battle is canon to the main timeline as there was an event where Tangle in the words of Sonic Forces Speed battle she "leaps from the pages of IDW Comics straight into Sonic Forces," which implies she dimensional traveled to another multiverse which is Game Sonic's. Sonic Forces Speed Battle is even called a tie in to Sonic Forces in the encylospeedia and Sonic Forces Speed Battle various story events like Mephiles coming back due to fate being rewritten and Infinite being reborn again implying Sonic Forces Speed Battle is post Sonic Forces as well as a Solar Parade being celebrated by Sonic and Friends.
    Now for the list of contradictions of IDW's contradictions to the games.
    For example:
    1. IDW Silver said he never reach so far in so many directions when he was carrying all of IDW Sonic and friends in their fight against IDW Metal Overlord. This contradicts Generations as Silver literally pulled so further away in way more directions than IDW to create a giant ball out of many cars, signs, poles, rocks, etc from very far to the point of being off screen even some objects from the other bridge underneath the one Sonic is running creating a move which he called meteor smash. He also pulled so many cars and pipes from very far away from under the bridge Sonic is running on in another move he did in his fight against Sonic where he shoves 20 cars at him in a straight line.
    2. Metal Sonic also gotten beaten by water when he faced Surge in IDW even though he has been in water before without getting harmed Sonic 4 Episode Metal, Sonic Adventure DX , Sonic R, and Sonic Free Riders in fact he swims in Free Riders in Dolphin Resort. Metal Sonic also does the butterfly swim in the Olympics which is a complex swimming technique and he is stated to swim fast as well. Eggman has even made many badniks that went in water for indefinite periods like in labiryth zone so it doesn't even make sense why he'd get beaten by water especially since Metal Sonic has been called Eggman's greatest creation from time to time as well as Eggman's strongest robot like in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. He also has openings in his design so water entering him shouldn't even be a problem, he even copied Chaos once who is a being made up of water without suffering any problems and using his abilities to hide when he copied Sonic and Shadow in Heroes.
    3. Sonic and Shadow thought destroying a couple of trees would stop an avalanche doesn't make sense considering their intelligence since when we know Sonic and Shadow are supposed to be intelligent. In fact, Shadow has an IQ of 200 as well according to Sonic 06 in one of the missions and Sonic has used strategy to foil Eggman's scheme a lot of times. Sonic has even beaten Eggman in Mean Bean Machine which is a strategy game in Sonic Mania.

      Speed Battle basically has no plot at all, it's just Phantom Ruby duplicates racing each other for some reason. Can't see any reason why it couldn't be canon, but I do wonder what the point would be. Is it just what Infinite does when he's bored?
      As for the IDW contradictions - the games freely contradict each other all the time. Sonic hasn't ever had a hard continuity where all of the details have to line up. Things are presented in one way in one place and in another way in another place and that's all there is to it.

    Do you find you perhaps have a tendency to write Amy as too verbose, put-together and low energy? Or perhaps it's an issue you feel you lean into too much in general. I ask because I feel this is something I and others notice only with your writing of the character specifically.
    Amy to me has always been more of an informal and impulsive character who goes for broke rather than someone more methodical and restrained.

      I don't think it's too far fetched to think that this is what Amy's development from Adventure 1 was supposed to be heading towards. Sonic already has being impulsive as a core personality trait. If Amy's intentions were to grow as a person, it makes sense she'd think things through more often and not succumb to impulsivity as much. You could argue it was a bit too much of a departure too fast, but I think that's more on the stories not living up to the character development set up in Adventure for a long time.
      I think if you look at how Amy acted in Unleashed, then imagine the off screen trauma that happens while Eggman is conquering the world pre Forces main story, you can reasonably arrive where we are now. When she next gets to be prominent in a game I hope to see more energy from her in a less tense situation from something like Frontiers though. A little more pep wouldn't hurt.

      @@Megaman12Protoman14 i think it's very farfetched... you're essentially saying her wanting to be strong and capable means her turning into a boring person devoid of pep and gumption.
      Amy's inpulsiveness has historically been a strength because it makes her willing to act.
      I think its telling you have to outright make up an entire scenario between games to pretend this behavior for Amy makes any sense. And even then, Id argue it doesn't. Amy is supposed to be an upbeat optimist.

    • @Megaman12Protoman14
      @Megaman12Protoman14 Рік тому

      @@ChaddyFantome I don't think she's boring personally, but her main goal as I understand it, was to mature into a woman that Sonic couldn't resist. Mellowing out from how she acted when introduced makes sense. You can argue that she's too low energy now, but I'd bring up that she became that way before Ian took over for the games and started work on the IDW series anyway, through other writers not knowing what to do with her. So in a post Forces climate, Amy is the last character that should be expected to go back to the 2000s considerong how much responsibility she had to take on for the sake of the planet. I'm not making anything up, the characters fought a losing war against Eggman and thought Sonic was dead. Unless you're Charmy, no character that wasn't already mature would still be the same in that scenario.
      She still has her best character traits from when she was introduced, even if you're not happy with her energy levels. You're going to have to give me an example of Amy not willing to act from IDW (because there's a lot of issues I don't want to comb through them all) because I know for a fact she's sill positive and ready to uplift anyone who needs it in Frontiers. More mature, yes, but no less willing to do what she can and go beyond if possible.

      @@Megaman12Protoman14 Your entire dissertation here is built on a bunch of pressumptions themselves built on very blatant misunderstandings of the characters.
      Amy being open about and unfiltered with her enthusiasm was never a character flaw nor was it an issue. Amy wanted to be strong so she could prove she was capable of hanging with the big boys on adventures without being a burden.
      It actually kinda baffles me this idea is even pedalled because id argue it sends a very unhealthy message about girls repressing themselves just to get a guys approval, in contrast to how Amy was before where she sought self improvement instead.
      I disageee completely that this isn't an Ian thing. Evan Stanley's work on the IDW comics exist in stark contrast to the way he writes the character. Amy is a lot more boisterous, outspoken and impulsive in the works she wrote. A lot more spunk and emotion in general and feels way less like how Ian seems to be trying to make Amy seem overly professional and well-spoken. Even then, I wouldn't call that a relevant excuse. I have a problem with it on a unilateral level. Not because I'm out to get Ian.
      It's telling Amy only ditches the office job Ian stuck her in after fan backlash.
