I didn’t really have a problem with Mack’s portrayal of Sonic in “Prime” to be honest. I mean, after growing up with countless other iterations of the character, I’m kinda used to seeing Sonic depicted as being somewhat incompetent - especially in the Jaleel White performances, where he’s generally presented as being incredibly flawed. I sure hope Mack gets another opportunity to voice the character again.
Personally Ryan Drummond is my favorite Sonic voice. I feel like he hit the perfect balance of cocky and serious, but still gave a lot of emotion in his deliveries. He had a rough start in Sonic Adventure with the bad direction that Sonic Adventure has, but some lines he delivered still came out well, like when he says “This time I’ll get him GOOD!” or “It won’t change how he feels inside, will it? His heart will still remain in turmoil, and his anger just won’t vanish! He’ll just be trapped forever!” He improved a bit in Sonic Shuffle, where his voice sounded like how he sounded in both Adventures 1 and 2. Then I think he nailed the voice in Sonic Adventure 2, and his delivery became perfect in Sonic Heroes. His voice imo sounded at its best in Sonic Adventure 2, since it hit the balance between how it sounded in both Adventure 1 and Heroes, but his line delivery in Sonic Heroes was perfect. Even in Sonic & Tails R, he proved that he still has it as Sonic, even though his voice matured quite a bit, and he showed that he can be caring as Sonic just like Jason. He’ll always be Sonic to me. Ben Schwartz is a close 2nd as I enjoyed the Sonic movies a lot. He feels like a perfect blend of all of Ryan, Jason, and Roger, and he can be serious as well in some scenes. He is underrated imo because people dislike him because he is re-using the same voice for all of his characters, which I can kind of understand, but again, it’s about acting, and Ben still delivers a good performance imo. As for voicing game Sonic, I’m not sure if he’d work as well as Ryan, Jason, and Roger, but if he was given the right direction, I think he could do it. Jason Griffith has grown on me a lot as well. He had a really rough start in Sonic X where he started off as a Ryan impression, but once he got into the games, he improved a bit, but not by much. Then when Sonic 06 came around, I think that’s when he started to grow into his own take on Sonic, even though he had a REALLY rough transition into it. He was changing his inflections, but in 06, he sounded like he was reading off a script for most of his lines. I say that he started to get better in that game because in the last Dreamcast Era games where the 4Kids cast took over (in Shadow and Riders,) they had him do a Ryan impression, but they seemed to be changing it in 06, also there are some lines where he sounded like he did in Unleashed. He got the voice down after his transition in Sonic and the Secret Rings, and he was quite great as Darkspine Sonic, and he was at his best in Unleashed and Black Knight. He captured Sonic’s caring side the best. It was his vocal performance in Sonic & Tails R Ep. X that fully sold his performance to me. Jun’Ichi Kanemaru also does a great job, and he set the gold standard for how Sonic’s voice should sound, which is why I think Ryan was the best, since Ryan is the closest-sounding to Kanemaru. As for Deven, Roger, and Jaleel, I think they’re also quite remarkable and I like their performances, but I like Ryan, Ben, and Jason best. Jaleel is best for Classic Sonic, though.

Ryan can still do the voice, he just needs to warm up first. Look up the Sonic & Tails R audio series by EmuEmi. He does a great job in that. EDIT: Forgot to say. Ryan in the first episode is meh, but episode two and onward he's amazing as Sonic.

If he was the singer, at least I can admit his singing voice is not bad.

i think the voice acting in adventure 1 is pretty good actually. i think its just brought down by the animations and quality, i feel if they just improved those, it would make it alot better, but hey, thats just my opinion

The lack of context that the cast was given at the time lead to some actors having bad line deliveries at times, and the direction that they had overall wasn’t great, but some actors like Ryan Drummond, Deem Bristow (Eggman’s Adventure actor) (R.I.P.), and even Corey Bringas (voice of Tails in Adventure and Shuffle) still worked well with what they were given. The direction in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes were a major step-up, but what they had in Sonic Adventure was certainly better than what they had in Sonic X’s English dub, that’s for sure. 😂

It was also Lisa Ortiz, as Amy, Mike Pollock, as Eggman, David Humphrey, as Knuckles, oddly, (but he did recently also reprise Shadow), Pete Capella as Silver, and Jason Griffith as Shadow (but also recently reprised as Sonic in the episode where David Humphrey was Shadow which was due to being how Shadow heard their voices when recalling an event).
the whole video is pointless if u can't separate the writing from the voices, noticing you tend to only like the stuff with better writing and ur reasoning for why the some are bad is coz they act stupid or the sounds cheesy with lines none of that is reasons why they don't fit the character honestly the only point u made is that you like the deep voice coz you like how it makes the character feel like he is aging which is a good point bad, but personally aging the character's up should stay to minimum otherwise we have people talking about sonic going through puberty which...no thanks ill keep energetic teen hog forever, otherwise well put together video
It sucks because like Deven in Sonic Prime, I don’t like his characterization at all. Which leaves me disliking the portrayal. In Ryan’s case I do like him more than I let on in the video lol, still a lil new at this so hopefully I’ll get better with time! Thanks for the feedback

Sometimes they don't make good cartoons but when they hit THEY HIT some of the cartoons are awesome I bought Sega hired some really good talent but no this show kind of sucks.

the whole video is pointless if u can't separate the writing from the voices, noticing you tend to only like the stuff with better writing and ur reasoning for why the some are bad is coz they act stupid or the sounds cheesy with lines none of that is reasons why they don't fit the character honestly the only point u made is that you like the deep voice coz you like how it makes the character feel like he is aging which is a good point bad, but personally aging the character's up should stay to minimum otherwise we have people talking about sonic going through puberty which...no thanks ill keep energetic teen hog forever, otherwise well put together video
It sucks because like Deven in Sonic Prime, I don’t like his characterization at all. Which leaves me disliking the portrayal. In Ryan’s case I do like him more than I let on in the video lol, still a lil new at this so hopefully I’ll get better with time!

13:35 Prime has to be the worst written Sonic show they did not know what the fuck they were doing and Man of Action usually makes SUCH GOOD SHOWS! Sometimes they don't make good cartoons but when they hit THEY HIT some of the cartoons are awesome I bought Sega hired some really good talent but no this show kind of sucks.

@@SonicBase626 frontiers sonic but in general the perception that a deeper voice must be used to represent a character being older or more serious. I also just don’t like the idea of these characters aging for what that’s worth.
That’s very fair! I kinda like the deep voice, but at the same time I think the whole cast need an overhaul. Get some fresh blood!
