Echo's comment of keeping your mind open is an ongoing campaign is spot on. When someone is set in their ways, it can be an incredible challenge to not only make a change of course but to also maintain it.

    The caveats are:
    1) Just because a technique works the 1st time doesn't mean it will work times 2 through infinity once people know how it works. Ex: magic trick
    2) Keeping your mind super open by default leaves you open to being tricked a lot more than keeping it skeptical by default

Another thing keeping our mind closed to new information is that we have invested so much in the fabric of the old information. We know that if one thread is wrong the whole coat might come loose.

I heard the saying "hold strong beliefs/opinions loosely not loose beliefs/opinions strongly" which I think is very apt here.
Make sure you have strong convictions because you've gone through the rigorous endeavor of proving/debunking your ideas based on real evidence not because of other people you want to impress or ingraciate yourself with or else it'll very easy to be lead astray, but if proven wrong via vigorous analysis have enough humility to change your views where you see fit and that matches with your values.

Be flexible. Do not rely on anecdotal evidence. Listen to listen, not listen to respond. Critical thinking is a great tool but it can lead to assumptions. I life lived is full of experience. Tap into that. Never argue with a fool. Never argue with someone who spouts ideology. Be flexible. Be safe. Deep breath's. Allowing your fight/flight response to take over makes you less successful. Do not ego challenge everything.

The problem now is echo (excuse the pun) chambers are everywhere because of social media, so people on all ends of the political spectrum struggle to empathise with each other and instead see each other as adversaries to be overcome rather than living people who they need to better understand. The lack of communication and open-mindedness is damaging. Very few people have open minded debates.

It’s also **your** **responsibility** to understand what’s wise information ℹ️ vs. irrelevant information 🌞☠️🌚
You can’t be naive and be inclined to go for “win/win” negotiations, ever; they’re agenda driven and unwise.
Jockos books on Extreme Ownership and The Dichotomy of Leadership, are great; **if** you surround yourself, with honorable people…
And if you become aware that you **aren’t** “cocooned” with respectable people, then disassociate; mind your business **harder** ( which BTW is beautiful advice, that I’ve intuitively known, in my childhood trauma 🤓).
Other quality resources are the books Bargaining With the Devil by Robert Mnookin and Start With NO by Jim Camp; when it comes to paper-pushing politics 🌞⚖️

Been following you for a long time and this is probably the most irresponsible advice I've seen.
Yes, keep an open mind, but the muscles you need to exercise are
    1. Information categorization.
    2. Critical Thinking.
    Information categorization...
Top tier objective reality. If there's a report of someone being shot, but the video shows them flying 10 feet. Objective reality is they were not hit with a bullet.
Objective reality are facts that can be easily proven independently and repeatedly. Think elementary school scientific method.
Then you have a class of unconfirmed information.
    Then you have confirmed bullshit.
You take the confirmed bullshit and run it through your critical thinking cap which needs a lot of exercise.
Then you can come up with better information in this information hostile world.

The thing is not so much self-confidence, or lack of self-confidence. It is more of a matter that you have to believe in the job, believe you can get the job done, and are willing to learn from others and appraise your own mistakes when or after getting the job done. Above all, all of the latter should be deeply marinated in a sense of humour. As the recently departed Barry Humphries once said: "If you can't laugh at yourself, you might be missing out on the biggest joke of all."
