Easy RC Glacier Upgrades! Installed | Tested

- This Easy RC Glacier has generated a lot of attention - folks seem to love this budget-oriented scale rig (amzn.to/3rm9Rmm)!!!
As typical, there are some upgrades we could do, to make it even better!
I started with a tire and wheel package:
- RC4WD Scrambler Tires: amzn.to/3Td9aJc
- TOPCAD beadlock wheels: amzn.to/3PQDnee
Just this change alone was a HUGE improvement for the truck.
The tires are a little large. If you want a slightly shorter tire, check this one out: amzn.to/3PNdEmU
I also tried these shocks: amzn.to/34T5qYP
But honestly, they don't bolt up easily, and the springs were too soft for how heavy this truck is.
Metal diff gears was my last part of this path.
This gear set from Horizon Hobby ended up being exactly what I needed: www.ebay.com/itm/175003832525...
Tools I specifically called out in the video:
- MIP 0.050" driver: amzn.to/3I4MTqH
- Blue loctite: amzn.to/3fpACRn
- TA Green Slime: amzn.to/3fpACRn
Overall, these upgrades really helped this truck perform!

Thank you very much for taking the time to do these very helpful videos. I am waiting to get this truck because here in Canada Horizon won't ship the FMS red version. But this one will be fine with some modifications as you are showing and some detailed painting. As a relative newcomer to RC trucks and cars these videos really help understand how to do upgrades and maintenance. Your videos are very much appreciated.
Glad to help! Thanks for the kind words.
Good job on the video. Great information about the upgrade parts. Thanks for sharing your experience.✌
Thanks for watching!
Love how you made that glacier way better! Great work bud keep it up! 👌🤘🙌 Big sub dude!
Thank you!
Thank you sooo much for making this video!!! My rig also has slipping diffs and I couldn’t find metal ones, so thanks!
Yes! The metal ones are a great upgrade.
@@RoadsideRC Do you have a part number for the metal ones, please? I just can't find them on the internet as a German customer having slipping rear axle gears after just one day.😐
Perfect, I got one coming my way.
Great! I hope you enjoy it!
Perfect explanation, video appreciated. Good work Bro
Thank you!
Nice Upgrade !
Thanks!
looks great with the bigger tyres the other upgrades are interesting to do it appeared to cope quite well on test
*a big like👍Au👍always a full view*
Slowly making it better!
Great video! Very informative and nice upgrades! ☮️
Thank you!
Love the looks of this rig sweet upgrades! B
👍👍👍👍🍻🍻✌️💪💪💪
Man gonna be so nice with all the metal in axles etc etc!!!
It is a cool looking truck for sure.
Man I hear that, "sent me on a quest ", the never ending quest of rc lol,, and thank you for such an in depth video, been looking at one of these too
Great! Glad it was helpful!
very nice, thanks for sharing my friend
Thanks for watching!
Very informative and generous video thank you
Glad it was helpful!
@@RoadsideRC do you think the tetra shocks will ever be available because I really want to try and put them on my FMS K-10 lol
I'm honestly surprised no one else has cornered this market yet. It's not exactly super new anymore
Maybe! I honestly don't have any insights on it.
Looks good .
Thanks!
Love the wheels. Makes it look like a 3/4 ton with the 8lugs
Yes! I agree!
Looks like the rear end is sagging some. Anyway, I like your course and that you are thorough when explaining what you're working on so I gave you a sub. I just recently got back into RC again, maybe 2 months ago, and I already bought 3 of the 1/24 scale crawlers. I just got Glacier delivered today I got a small toy grade rc crawler for my daughter cuz she said they look fun. She seems to still be enjoying the hobby and wanted a faster 1 so I got her the Vanguard. The 1st one I bought for me was the Arrma Big Rock. After that I found a deal at a yardsale on a Traxxas TMax and a Redcat Earthquake and I got them for $140 each. Wasn't really looking to get into the nitros but at that price I couldn't say no. I will probably sell them. Anyway, looking forward to more videos. ✌
Thanks!
Awesome you are sharing the hobby with your daughter. That us what got me into it - they just don't show up in as many videos anymore.
Great Truck... great Vid! Subscribed my friend
Thanks 👍
Really like those upgrades Troy! I definitely think these mods helped it out greatly. I would be sad to cut that truck up. It still does really well!
I never did cut it up...but I also never really drove it again either. It is sitting in the box, in my garage.
@@RoadsideRC I’m sure you’ll get to it!😜👍🏻
Hey Troy, awesome video. Those wheels and tires look great, loving the bigger tires. MIDWID! brother! I agree, the body looks too good to change any of it. Let's talk about LCG???
Thanks 👍
Defently give you a like and an sum.so mine idea is to make a dually with it.this would be absolutely mind blowing.i ordered mine today in the knight..yeah let's see how it does when mine is there.
So also let's have fun with our tiny tricks
Great! A dually will be a blast!
Well we’re getting one of these. Customer of mine at the guitar shop is an RC fan and one of our subscribers and he offered to horse trade for a squier I’ve got. I’m looking forward to it. Btw did you know if you pull the glacier stick off the tailgate it says Chevrolet underneath. Got some wagon wheels and mudslingers in my cart on Amazon, but I’m gonna wait to see what our local hobby shop has first.
Hope you have fun with it. Don't expect amazing things. It is certainly scale over function!
Super cool, do reverse lights work too? Bought the same kit for Fms k10 hope it works on mine.
I hope they work well for you! Good luck!
Awesome video. Thank you. Great backyard course. Did you peel off the sticker on your Glacier's tailgate? Behind it apparently is a surprise for scale enthusiasts.
Thank you!
Haven't peeled the sticker.
To fix that cracking sound I took apart the diff and used one wacher to push the smaller gearup one to have a tighter gear mesh and it fixed it by 70% for me, Unless it gets alot of load.
Makes sense. Didn't seem like the stock diff was shimmed correctly.
Nice informative video, thanks! Did you know that, when you peel off that Glacier-Sticker on the bed, it says Chevrolet underneath?
Yep! It sure does!
Hi Roadside RC! Tanks for this helpful video. Now I'm searching for metal links & steering links - but can't find them. Any tipp?? Thanks!
Sorry - I don't think anyone made those for it.
Hi awesome video. You mentioned that the metal gears came with bushings instead of bearings. Where Can I get the bearings from? Thanks in advance.
I purchased the parts for the FMS version.
@@RoadsideRC Do you happen to have the link? Thanks in advance
Nice upgrades i like the wheels they look good but must have been to big for those plastic gears
Yes - the gears stripped almost immediately. Really glad to find the metal gear set.
Nice eliminated the plastic toy bounce. It looks much more scale. Added realism.
Exactly the goal!
I wonder if those shocks would fit one of the Panda Hobby 6x6 trucks?
I believe they would! Still would need stiffer springs perhaps.
Endura 24 shocks use ball ends similar to that. Can't say if they'd be an improvement, but its hardware.
Great! Thanks for the tip!
Remove the glacial sticker on the tailgate there's a Chevy badge underneath it 👌
Yes! I know!
that sound is the gear box i had to purposefully strip a tooth in mine to get access to the motor screws if the motor locks up again with the metal gears i have comin in im gonna have to get a whole new gearbox my issue was it locked up where the driveshaft screws were not accessible
Interesting, and boo
Did you end up having to buy 2 of the metal gear drives or did it come with the front and rears?
Both front and rear where included in the one package.
@@RoadsideRC Thank you!
@Roadside rc I just bought one of these and am looking for the metal gears, the link you have doesn't work, do you know where I can find some?
Check the part number and keep looking. The gears are from the FMS variant of the 1/18 trucks.
Make the oil filled shock mod. Better than all aftermarkets.
Thanks!
The Baykan brand aftermarket shocks for the FMS 1/18 crawlers should work for this truck without modification. It comes with the balljoint hardware needed. $20 on amazon.
Thanks for the tip!
Can anybody confirm this? I'm looking for shocks that fit and that are hopefully oil filled
That little rig should come with those metal gears from the factory
There is a more expensive version of it, I bet that one comes with the metal gears.
The FMS K10 which is the more expensive one does. I have it and it’s brilliant 👍
Take sticker off back of truck and see what's underneath your welcome.
Yes - I already know!
What size screwdriver are you using? Is it the 0.05in? Or 0.5in? Going with this setup but couldn't see the size of your screwdriver in the video.
It is 0.05".
Good luck!
Did you remove the rear sticker?
Nope - I know it says Chevrolet under it.
I found theses shocks for mine an you can put oil in them Synpinya 4PCS Metal Damper for 1/18 Scale Cruiser Cruiser RC Car Upgrade Parts
An it comes with the screws an ball for the shocks
What's the best motor to put in it without having to upgrade the transmission box
I am not sure, sorry. I never took out the stock motor.
Hello there I see you know your stuff you truck is solid I’ve recently brought the same truck i have the same problem with the gears slipping would you be able to help me out I’m stuck and don’t know which ones are the right ones I’ve looked at the ones shown in your vid but I can’t find them on the web if you can help me find the correct gears for the axials and transfer box I’d be so grateful for the help thank you 🙂
I have also had trouble finding them.
I was able to find them from the parent company, FMS. See if you can find them that way.
10:25 The red k10 from Fms frame is metal and gears are metal i can see why it’s more runs over anything
That makes sense. The FMS version of this truck is about double the $$$, so has a lot more scale details and better parts.
Do you think it would fit a 10mm wide shoks?
Nope, not enough room.
@@RoadsideRC Really? 1 centimeter looks almost the same measurement as the original. It's just that my car hasn't arrived yet, because I'm not from the US, so I can't measure the width.
Anyone know where to get gears now. The link is no longer working and I haven't had luck finding them in stock anywhere
I looked - they do seem discontinued.
I would suggest contacting FMs and Horizon customer service.
I need instruction on how to take the motor trans apart it appears to be jamed and i dont know how to open it up , please help i got it out ,i just dont know what to do
I'm sorry, I have not done that with this truck.
Unable to find the metal gears...could you please let me know where I can buy?
Hi there.
It looks like the exact SKU I bought isn't available anymore. However, I do see these two options. I bet one of them will work.
Option 1: www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=el&merchant_id=953aec29-878e-4306-b620-2df85883455e&website_id=caf4cba5-8e5f-43be-93b7-934f1a36d50d&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.horizonhobby.com%2Fproduct%2Fgear-set-1-12-mb-scaler%2FFMMROC1159.html
Option 2: www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=el&merchant_id=953aec29-878e-4306-b620-2df85883455e&website_id=caf4cba5-8e5f-43be-93b7-934f1a36d50d&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.horizonhobby.com%2Fproduct%2Fgear-set-suzuki-jimny%2FFMMX1206.html
Otherwise stock?
Seems to have better modulation than my katana.
It had some really bad shocks on it that I had to take back off.
Anybody got a recommendation for shocks? He said those ones aren't ideal in the discription
Unfortunately, I never found some that worked well.
@@RoadsideRC it seems like this vehicle isn't very aftermarket friendly, that's a shame because I like the look of it more than the Fms 1x18th scale.
The diff gears are discontinued btw but it’s worth it if you can find one
Ah! That is too bad!
hello friend on which site can i buy metal gear drive lc80 fmmroc2056
that link you put is not opening
It is hard to find. I don't see it for sale at the moment. I would suggest contacting the manufacturer.
hello, any solution to improve top speed ?
It would require motor, esc, and other electronics changes.
@@RoadsideRC with the current gear box, there is no possiblity to change the ratio ? I din't find any gears avlb for this brand with diffrent ratio :( (i don't mind to loose some torque) & if now, which motor (combo esc) could be compatible with the chassis ? any idea ?
@O B My understanding is no.
You would need to do major changes to upgrade it.
That is why I never did.
Rc Review showed that if you pull the glacier sticker off it says Chevrolet under it
Yes - I know!
Surprised you haven't pulled the glacier sticker off the tailgate
It is the name of the truck, doesn't bother me to have it on there.
@@RoadsideRC good point just didn't know if you knew about the Chevrolet being under it. But a conscious decision to keep it is more honorable 🤘
i would add weight and leave it. the scale is more important than capability in these 👍
Exactly where I am with it.
I looked at how to add some axle weight. Nobody makes parts for this truck. I thought of just adding some stick-on weight to the axle, but didn't want it to look bad.
Plus - stripping those plastic gears has got me gun-shy. I don't want to stress the driveline more....
@@RoadsideRC very good point. If I added any. It would be maybe a wrap or two of solder wire in the tire. But thinking about the gears. I'd leave it and enjoy it for what it is.
@@RCVOODOOcan you tell me how & what adding solder wire does for weight & how to do it please buddy as I'm new to modding RC trucks,thanks.. Marco.
You missed the quickest upgrade you can do for that truck. Pull the Glacier sticker off of the tailgate, theres a Chevrolet logo underneath.
I knew about it. Wasn't worried about it.
Awesome video mate, thank you, it was extremely helpful.!
Stay safe out there & best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️.!
Thank you!
Glad it was helpful.
Take the glacier sticker off the back it says chevrolet underneath
I know it sounds made up but i saw it on tomley rc's channel
Yes, you are right.
I prefer to buy fms k10 some problem will solve without happen
That will work!
Rc everyday tried this. Didn't work out
Tried what, and what didn't work? This has worked great for me!
If you take off the rear sticker it will say Chevy
Yes! I know!
Pull the sticker from the tailgate and see the surprise 👍
Yes - I know!
