Madonnas ballads are phenomenal. What she can do with her limited range is incredible. Her performances are full of emotion. Few can match her expressive style no matter how incredible their voices may be.

Madonna's "Live to Tell" would sound ugly had it been sung by Celine or Whitney. Stating a hard truth that many would just hate to admit. What Madonna has done, destroyed all the stupid bland talk about "range". She is not your basic karaoke act.

As predicted it takes you on the continued journey of where her heart is. She sells the story with beautiful lyrics, fabulous cinematography you don't see today, and serving look for days. You also get a little glimpse of her stepping into the "Evita look" as it was released the following year.
Interesting fact :
This song was on the compilation album ‘something to remember’ , the album main focus was toning down Madonna’s image as she was heavily criticised that time due to her over sexual era . The previous studio album ‘bedtime stories’ was doing the same thing .
And of course : it worked , she went on to do Evita , with Huge success..

Now you need to react to Living For Love next because that is like the unofficial third part, as it has a matador theme too, this time she is takes on the matador role. There is also a beautiful ballad titled One More Chance she did around this time, it has not video but you should check that out as well. It's a sort of forgotten gem, she actually released it as a single. She actually sent Take A Bow video with her ten page letter to director Alan Parker to convince him to cast her as Eva Peron.
It really is a beautiful ballad and does describe breaking up accurately, it's more somber but it's very defiant. I'm not sure if everyone has understood how much vulnerability she has... and it started way way back. There are tracks on her First Album that have a similar tone. Well, she has mentioned that she like many creative people is a emotionally crippled human being. She's had lots of demons to fight, from losing mother at a young age, feeling abandoned by her father, going to New York by herself and getting raped, losing her friends to AIDS, and the list goes on and on. She has endured a lot and continues to endure a lot because people just say whatever they want about her, try to diminish her talent by focusing on her looks or how controversially she behaves or dresses. They miss the entire point of Madonna. I can't tell you how many times I have had to watch her defend how she expresses herself artistically, people always focus on the controversial bits and totally ignore the message of her videos and songs. I could write a list but it would simply be too long. So often people have tried and continue to try and shame her into silence, but she's stuck with her truth and kept on going. But not without hurt, that's the part that people ignore. She's gotten hurt a lot, in relationships, in the media, probably even how the industry has treated her. She's 4 decades in yet I feel like she still needs to prove herself and it's sort of bizarre considering how important and transformational she has been to the industry as a whole.
Just the other day I rolled my eyes on Facebook because of how people interpret everything she says wrong. It's like people are getting more and more illiterate with time, and they got less and less information and shorter and shorter attention spans. Plus understanding context is non-existent these days. So what did she do? Well, she posted a clip of her song Nobody's Perfect and captioned it "embrace your imperfections" and people went for her throat because she's had some work done to her face. Why did I roll my eyes at that? Because she wasn't talking about skin deep. She's never claimed to be a perfect individual, in her earlier life she acted like a brat (which made her adorable though, lol) but she has indeed matured since and embraced her character flaws and made an effort to change. That is what the song is about. No one knows Madonna, though they all act as if they do. For someone as popular as she has been, she has opened the door to her actual personal life very little. She's protected that area, giving bits of it but kept a big area sacred. I don't claim to know her either, obviously I don't, but at least I see her as a living breathing person who experiences life just like the rest of us, not some one-dimensional creature she is often portrayed as. Money doesn't make any of life's pains lesser, if anything it magnifies them because you can't even know who you can trust - and she has been betrayed by friends, lovers and family members so let's just say there's wounds in her as a result, anyone would have.
When I saw the same old ageist rhetoric used against her on Facebook, I got a little mad. Every single comment was about plastic surgery, calling her a hypocrite, without realizing that they themselves were the hypocrites... because there are two types of imperfections, those on the outside, and those on the inside - and she was addressing the latter. She was saying accept your inner flaws because nobody's perfect. And that if she can't meet someone's ideal of her or be what they want her to be then sorry, they just need to deal with it because nobody's perfect.
This became another freaking novel! LMAO It feels a bit like I am writing about a member of my family because she is like a second mother to me, one i've never even met but who has done things for me that no one else has. So at times I get fiercely protective of her because I really don't see her in a superficial way, and even though she doesn't need my protection. But frankly, in the sea of voices attacking her for every single thing she is or does, I want to be a voice of reason. I want to be that for every person. I know how it feels on the other side.
Embracing our own imperfections, no matter what they are, is the hardest thing to do. I can testify to that. But we all should, as it liberates us to life.
