In this Oldhammer themed video we check out the original backstory, History + fluff of the Ultramarines Space Marine chapter from Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader tabletop game. The Ultramarines have been in Warhammer 40k since the original edition, Rogue Trader in the late 1980's

This Oldhammer video features the Ultramarines chapter of space marines from Warhammer 40,000 Rogue trader by Games workshop. Rogue trader is sometimes known as Rogue Trader 40k. Rogue trader is also often misspelt, Rouge Trader, which is amusing.
we call it Warhammer 40k Rogue trader mostly. thats considered Oldhammer 40k.
A lot of the history originally written about the Ultramarines was by Rick Priestley. He calls it Warty Thou!
Sometimes Oldhammer is just referred to as Warhammer Rogue trader. The 40k part gets left out.
At the end of the day, its all Warhammer 40k
The idea of basically remaking a traitor legion using their iconography, rituals and "gene-sperm" is insane to me. It'd be like "Hey, know what would be a good idea? Let's bring back the Luna Wolves"
The Ultramarines are my favorite chapter and I love looking back at how vastly different their 1st ed lore was.
There are still days I look at my bitz box and think over making a "modern" Illiyan Nastase...
that would be a mini I would LOVE to see!

I think his name was reused for a farseer who worked with the Ultras, probably a nod to this old lore
I’m not sure it’s ever been stated as not canon but it’s biologically impossible. Eldar females have to “bred” multiple times to bare a child and it’s basically impossible to say whether that means that Eldar females have very low fertility or with male Eldar sperm is just dog shit, two very important questions as you would first have to figure out which parent is the eldar and which is the human.

I know I am off topic... do you have any deep details about eldar Corsairs? I’ve just recently started working on the new Corsair figures. My ‘vision ‘ is to build a raider warband with Corsair, harlequins and some dark eldar. It’s been tough to find older GW references

I think 1st edition and 2nd edition 40k exist is slightly different universes, a half human/half Eldar chief Librarian and a mutant man serving in the marines is heresy these days! I do love the old school USMC medic as a space marine seen at 2:17! Would an old military cap from the ancient days of earth be allowed in the current space marines? I think not but cool to see that, not sure those beards and goatees or Chinese symbols are regulation either! 😄
I love the crazy old way of just using any old inspiration for things. It’s so weird and fun. Not all cookie cutter like today.

@@maxbrandt6 It could also be early editions were like old war movies made by Hollywood that were always entertaining but the public never knew how accurate they were, and the New editions are the books made made by the veterans themselves
