Omg sameee!!!
SAME LOL!
5:03 Ahh so what's where Return to Oz movie comes from..
Frrrrrr
Only partly. It's a seamless blending of elements from the second and third Oz books.
The Wizard of Oz is special to me. I’ve been cast in it 4 times! But, there are some creepy things about the books…
Omg luckyy
Such as?

Bro, I collect these in first editions, I have one from 1916. I guess you could say these books are dark tho

6:55 the wheelers look like something from the horror robot steampunk genra.
Genre.
I just noticed the cyclone might be real, The book was written in 1900 and so was the hurricane that destroyed an orphanage, Dorothy is an orphan, and hr aunt and uncle take care of her at their house which is het orphange
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Dorothy came to live with her aunt and uncle after her parents died. The storm that blew Henry's house to Oz was a cyclone; you don't get hurricanes that far inland.
There’s a cartoon movie called Legends of Oz, Dorothy’s return, where we get to see the porcelain dolls and Candy County. It was considered a bad movie, but it had some interesting moments that nod to the original books including the Jester, AKA the wicked Witch’s brother.
Hey I think I remember watching that movie as a child... It was pretty strange.
@@Vampiric-Princess Ikr, I just remembered it after years of forgetting it existed.
The Jester is not in the Famous Forty.
@@MaskedMan66 The Jester was created in 1989 by L. Frank Baum's great-grandson Roger S. Baum (who did not specify him as being the Witch's brother), and is therefore a copyrighted character, in contrast to LFB's work, which is all in the public domain.
@@jonathanmarkoff4469 The Oz canon is the Famous Forty. Anything else is fanfic. ;-) I mean, Baum's own son tried publishing an Oz book of his own when Ruth Plumly Thompson was authoring the books, and his own mum took him to court for it! lol
Ive been hyperfixating on these books since last year! The continuity gets quite haphazard past book 6 (since baum intended to stop at book 6) but there still fun stories (except rintink of oz, i didnt really like that one)
Also quite a lot of people ship scarecrow & tinman
6:52 ok you got that wrong, they just live in the land of ev, they dont work for anyone
The Adventures of Rinkitink was originally a standalone fantasy that LFB wrote before most of the Oz books, like Mo or Yew or Ix, but he abandoned it, and used its original climax as the end of Ozma of Oz. When he was late on an Oz deadline, he dusted off Rinkitink and added Oz characters to come in at the last act and save the day.
The Oz books are pretty haphazard about continuity, so there are plenty of examples of "In one book they say this, but in another book they say that."
Jessii Vee gets quite alot of stuff wrong in this video. It is easy to confuse what happens in the books with the various movies that have been made from them. In Return to Oz the Wheelers occupy Oz while working for Langwidere (renamed Mombi for the film).
I'm waiting, as I just got this notification, also, Jessi, you are amazing and I have been a fan of yours for quite a while
Return to Oz FREAKED ME OUT as a kid, but I still loved it 😂 that "Dorothy Gaaaaale" was chilling and the wheelers were horrifying. 😱 But Jack and TickTock were just the best 🥰💜
The Wheelers were a bunch of comedy relief goons.
I am not surprised that the wizard of Oz original books are the scariest. Almost every original book is scarier than the movies (like the little mermaid, Rapunzel, etc)🌙📖📚
They're called Oz books, not "Wizard of Oz" books. And you need to read them, because they're a lot of fun, and only scary to people who are more cowardly than the Lion. And there have been faithful movie takes on the original tales you mentioned (which are centuries older than Oz, and which, in fact, the creator of Oz didn't care for very much).
The wizard of oz book I have is a somewhat newer one where the scarecrow instead of snapping twists the crows necks and keeps twisting its neck till each and every crow has a twisted neck and is lying dead on the ground around him
That is what happens in the original book.
There is only one version of the original book. And those crows have been sent to peck out the travelers' eyes, so what the Scarecrow does to them is very right and proper.
It has been a long time since i watched the movie of The Wizard Of Oz but i never read any of the books wanna see how disturbing it is
The books are not disturbing unless the reader is more cowardly than the Lion. The books are fun.
its nice seeing jessi vee again after so many years...she was my whle childhood...i like going back and seeing this content again...its nice :)
There were actually 15 books, not 14. Though one was a"filter " and was stories like one was about Toto, from his point of view, where we discover more about his relationship with the cowardly Lion and the Hungry Tiger
There's forty........
@@Yabba_yabba_do more than that. But only 15 of them are by L Fank Baum 😊
There's no such book. There is a book of six short stories that Baum wrote, but it's more of a "spin-off" than part of the main continuity. And of course, after Baum died, his widow gave approval for the series to continue, and eventually it reached forty titles.
@@MaskedMan66 well, if we're going on a technicality about the "filler" book...!
I'm a huge Oz fan. There are about 200 now IF you count the Gregory Mguire books. Many authors have taken a stag at writing them. Gregory Mguire did this to a whole other level! Those books are actually excellent and delve into the story behind the Witches etc. (Fans of the stage show Wicked don't be cold. Excellent though that is, it is but a mere fraction of the book AND goes off in a completely different direction, which is sad really, as it means there cannot be sequels made from the other books)
Jessii is my favorite UA-camr glad your back after the break
There was an 80's Japanese anime tv series "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" with a lot more in this taken from the books. It's epic and I loved watching it.
Only the first season was called that; the other four were called by the titles of the books they were based on. They covered books 1, 2, 3, and 6. Unfortunately, they kept getting further and further away from the source material, but they were still fun. 🙂
Hi Jessii! Can’t wait to hear what this video’s all about. I’ll be back when it starts to premiere. 🖤💜👋🏻
After listening to all of the insanity in OZ...
I now must find the books! I'd love to see a part 2. 💕
No "insanity," it's just fantasy. The books are in fact tons of fun; L. Frank Baum was a masterful punster and never missed an opportunity for clever wordplay. 🙂His successors all carried on the fun.
I read one of the books by Frank Baum and it was a little different from the movie. And yes I want a part two! ❤
L. Frank Baum. His first name was Lyman, but he didn't care for it.
The princess with no head was actually in the unofficial sequel to the wizard of OZ called return to OZ I think that film focuses more on the books than the original if you haven’t seen it I recommend it it’s actually quite good although it’s kinda weird as Dorothy seems younger but is actually older as it’s set after her first adventure to OZ but yeah please watch it and if possible make a video on it I’d love to know what you thought
(I commented before Jessii mentioned Return to OZ so I’m sorry about that but still if anyone reading this hasn’t seen return to OZ please watch it)
Mombi had a head; she had just decided to appropriate a few more for herself when the Nome King conquered Oz. In the book "Ozma of Oz," the heads belong to Princess Langwidere, and were all her own from the start; presumably she was born with them.
_Return to Oz_ is not a sequel to any previous Oz movie.
@@MaskedMan66 I literally said unofficial sequel lol meaning it’s not actually a sequel but people can view that way if they want
@@felixcoyleskzstories Of course you literally said it; there'd have been little point in you figuratively saying it. But RtO isn't a sequel to the MGM movie at all, no matter how people may wish to "view it that way." There are too many differences, such as Henry's surname being Blue instead of Gale, Dorothy being ten instead of twelve, and the year being 1899 instead of 1900.

Do you think about making this kind of video for Pinocchio? I don't remember seeing it on your channel, and it's a fairy tale that has a specific origin and book rather than being something passed down and being modified in the process.
Another reason for the poppy’s making them fall asleep is that poppy’s are a drug!😮
Poppies, you mean, and they aren't a drug, they're flowers.
There's going to be another Coraline
I haven't watched your vids for a long time

There’s a stage production called “The Woodsman” that is the Tin Man’s origin story. It uses puppets and sounds and no talking. We performed it at my high school at, I was the witch.

Finally I don’t have to wait one day.
Wheelers,Headles Woman, Jack are from return to oz
Poreclian Dolls are from Oz the Great and Powerful
for anyone wondering
Mombi had a head! Besides the thirty she'd stolen, she had a head of her own! But that was just in RtO.
The China People are from "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."
Mombi (with only one head) and Jack Pumpkinhead are from "The Marvelous Land of Oz" and several other books.
The Wheelers and Princess Langwidere (whose thirty heads were all her own and not stolen from anyone) are from "Ozma of Oz," and in fact come from the Land of Ev.
Your intro is iconic.
Also there are 40 offical oz books from 1900-1963 with some gaps at the end.
What "gaps?"
Please make a part 2 ❤❤❤❤
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs was a book I grew up reading and it is quite cute and creepy
I love the wizard of oz
Oh my God this is so scary now I know why they removed it from children library's
Another reason it was removed from libraries is because the series is full of transgender fairies who poof themselves (and other people) with magic wands to achieve their desired gender identity, and the other characters usually just accept them with no deadnaming or misgendering. The series was amazingly ahead of its time in that area.
I'm so excited
My favorite things:
1: God
2: Jessii Vee
3: DogDay
“40 Wolves” sound like a really, REALLY, bad knockoff of Disney’s “101 Dalmatians”
Or possibly a Kurosawa samurai movie.
I am very glad you are showing interest in Oz & relating it to your viewers. Yes,Baum's books can be a little weird, but there is also a lot of charm & imagination. But,try to get your facts right. The wolves & the crows, both are sent by the Wicked Witch of the West when the group are in the Haunted Forest on the way to the Witch's castle. The Wheelers are not in The Wizard of Oz.They are in Ozma of Oz,the 3rd book & have nothing to do with the Wicked Witch.Thank You though, for sharing Oz with your viewers!!
Thank you for that! One thing: there was no Haunted Forest in the book.
The Muppet version has more scenes from the book.
PART 2 please!! You should also cover the original Alice and Wonderland book characters🤍🥰 so creepy!!
Yes please do part 2😊❤
This is gonna be awesomely radical jessi
i was casted as toto in a school production of the wizard of oz (a musical) and it was so fun!!! i just had to bark lol

I haven't watched this channel since middle school and oh my god the nostalgia hits hard i missed your videos
For us, we read a book where the tin man would have it to where the tin man would lose its limb do to the queen and would get them replaced, and all he wanted was the girl😢 I read it in 4th grade😂
The poppies and the flying monkeys are in the first book too as are the wolves. Great video 😊
Winged Monkeys.
I was trying to get a ravenclaw facet but my dad said its too expensive for its size 😭😭😭😭
I’ve watched jessi vee since I was young and she never fails to make happy :3
At my school there having a wizard of oz and history
Surprisingly the wheelers are scarier than the flying monkeys 🤧
Winged Monkeys, you mean, and the Wheelers are a bunch of buffoons.
I wonder if parents back then also complained about the new generation being too sensitive.
“Kids these days are sensitive! Why, back in my day our parents read us bedtime stirrups about men hacking their own limbs off and no one batted an eye!”
It's never been the kids; it's always been the parents who were too sensitive. Kids take things in stride. You'd be surprised what the average child can shrug off. I wonder what some of these shrinking violets cowering from the Oz books would make of Dav Pilkey's "Dog Man."
Do a part 2 Jessii !!!! THIS IS SO GOOD I LOVE ITTT!!!
Ijust finished reading the first 5 books, I dont remember some of the parts mentioned but the only part i found disturbing was the blue bear skin carpet that used to get up and follow its owner?? so ye
Dyna's pet was cute, what are you talking about?
Jessica!I love your videos ❤❤❤
Return to Oz is, unfortunately, an accurate portrayal for the most part; The books were dark. As good as the 1930s movie is, it is very toned down compared to the novel it is based on.
Also, pretty sure Wizard of Oz is in the Public Domain, so nothing is stopping anyone from making shows or movies based on the books. (the 1930s movie isn't btw)
The books are not dark. Read them sometime.
@@MaskedMan66 Dude, you must be jaded as hell if you think otherwise.
@@foxdavion6865LMHO Matey, if you knew me, you would know that "jaded" is one word that definitely doesn't describe me! No, I'm just someone who's read all of the Oz books, many of them as a child, and can say hand on heart that they are lots of fun.
Hey, you guys remember Grims fairytales? I’m getting these vibes from Wizard of Oz.
You wouldn't if you actually read it. Part of why Baum wrote it was to avoid the more unpleasant elements of the older tales.
Before you said that it's just like the movie return to OZ in my head I was like these books are just like the movie return to OZ 😂
You mean _Return to Oz_ is like the books; the books came eight decades before that movie.
@@MaskedMan66 well yeah 👍🏻

man i can't wait for the part 2. those details in the original books can be recreated as smt you would find in a horror movie.
Friend, you need to read the books; they are not dark or disturbing or any of that. They are a lot of fun; why do you think children have loved them for over 100 years?
But I remember the porcelain dolls in the movie?
The porcelain doll people appeared in Oz the Great and Powerful with James Franco. Most other movies leave them out.
China People.
@@jonathanmarkoff4469 They also appeared in the Turkish movie _Ayşecik ve Sihirli Cüceler Rüyalar Ülkesinde,_ based on "The Wizard of Oz."
