A really sad fact about this movie is that Judy Garland (who played Dorthy) was sexually assaulted by the munchkins, because there so tiny and short they got away with putting there hands up her dress. Like if you also feel bad for her :(
Where did you find that from? If you mind me asking.
Oh my goodness I did not know that and I read that Judy garland was really bad mouthed by the people who created the movie just because of her appearance and figure
Dark Winged Angel yeah they put her on a diet of just coffee and cigarettes
Gianna Lutes they also forced her to go on a diet and smoke 60 or 90 (I forgot) cigarettes. Louis mayor also did sexual stuff to her like grope her
How does this only have 24 likes?
dorthy also known as Judy Garland, was forced to do drugs doing the film to act so hyper in some of the scenes. And she had to workout A LOT to look as if she was a child. like= one sad face for dorthy
Addy!!! Yeahhhhhh I will do a sad face 😔 ok so dorthy and the actors mostly actors WHY YOU WHY YOUR EVIL
😭
And also had to use cigarettes
Bea Hart I forgot to mention that. I cannot believe how rude the director and everyone were in this movie. It is very unacceptable and I hope that they arrested them. 🌪🧍🏽♀️🐶😭😢😰😥
xu Li I agree!
My theory is that when dorathy sings over the rainbow 🌈 she's singing about going to heaven.but when her house went will the tornado that she died . Because the world seemed so mutch like heaven and later in the movie the emarled city was under the rainbow ,and sometimes when someone dies they say they crossed the rainbow bridge.😱😱😱
Oh.
O.o
And the 'yellow brick road' because heavens roads are golden
That makes sense
Omg that’s so true
flakes um you ok
The wizard of oz is one of my favorite movies. I first seen it 1989, 50 years after it was released. The tornado scene is still one of the creepy scenes in the movie. This movie had comedy, horror, and drama all rolled together. Rest in peace Judy Garland, and the other belated actors and crew from this iconic movie.
And family
hlep ne
hlpe
hlpe em
just kidding lol
You forgot something really sad. The actor who played dorothy couldn’t stop giggling in one of the scenes. She couldn’t stop so one of the Directors thought it would be good to slap Dorothy. So she could do the scene without giggling
Edit: I forgot to mention that the director felt bad. So he asked to get punched in his nose. Judy {The actor who plays Dorothy} kissed his nose instead
• N I C O L E • do you play Gacha life or Gachaverse or Gacha studio
Honestly Judy is so sweet
Aw i feel bad for her some comments here saying she was forced to use 80 ciggarettes and she got molested :
What the heck she was 16
He didn't feel bad, he slapped her multiple times, and then apparently after the movie shooting Dorothy killed herself from a drug overdose because of depression, also most of the munchkins sexually assaulted her because they were small enough to reach under her dress and not get caught
Something she didn’t mention: I read somewhere once that the actress who played Dorothy was often sexually/physically abused while on set. Dunno if it’s true or not but ima put it out there.😐
CrystalTheMeme I wouldn’t doubt it. Hollywood is full of pedophiles, and in order to keep control of the actors, they’d use drugs etc...
CrystalTheMeme yeah the munchkins
Tawnie true...
O god. I didn’t know that :[
I’m disturbed-
I tried the thing on google, and it actually makes noise and says. “There is no place like home”. It also makes magical sounds
Oof
😱 Jeez!
I tried it! D:
For me i pressed it 3 times and it said "thares no place like home" my body found it disturbing cuz it was a deep voice and then the tornado came i pressed it then came out a house out of it going in the middle the screen then turned back normal
Omg I did it too
Fun fact: the 1939 version isn’t the original, the 1910 version is.
Wasen't there a war back then in 1939? like WW2? I think so.
Thank you for the information
@@BreadYummz Have you ever gone to school?
@blue_bxtterflies The first movie version of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" was made by the Selig Company in 1910. It starred a nine year-old actress named Bebe Daniels as Dorothy. Many years later, she married an English actor named Ben Lyon and the two of them became very popular in radio and T.V.
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
You didn’t mention the most disturbing fact which was about the extreme diet and mistreating of the girl who played Dorothy. She could only have one bowl of chicken soup, several coffees through the day and a lot of packs of CIGARETTES A DAY.
Sweet Jesus..
That’s horrible! 😰
i think it was over 80 CIGARETTES!!!
Lola Weakley yeah it was insane
Not to mention the diet pills, the spies sent to watch her, the sleep pills, and the fact her co-star adult actors held resentment towards her for all the attention
All this leading to drug abuse and her only actual friend on set being the wicked witch of the west
Fun fact, the movie had the actors fall asleep in a poppy field because poppies used to be used in Morphine, a drug that makes you fall asleep and never wake up, it kills you, but when it snowed it killed all the poppies therefor saving them
that’s in the video
Actually, poppies make opium, and it was because of that being a key part in the book, not an artistic metaphor on the part of the directors
Lillian Youngker That's not a fun fact. That's a sad fact.
That’s not a fun fact if it’s a joke srry but! Great comment!
Morphine doesn't make you "Never wake up."
One fact about the movie is: That Judy Garland (who plays Dorothy) had been slapped by the director several times, because she kept laughing when they were trying to film, then when they finished the movie she killed herself because of an overdose.
she didn't kill herself intentionally, her mother had her hooked up on drugs since she was a teenager.
olivia jane not even, since she was in elementary and she was told they were to give her “more energy”
I feel really bad for her 🥺
She was not even allowed to eat properly because her messed up mother decided to make her stay awake for 72-hours for photo shoots with drugs and wold force her to eat a sleeping pill
Om-
They actually made it as a cartoon movie but ft mickey n his friends i still remember this movie :>
There is also tom and Jerry crossover with the wizard of oz and its frame by frame like the movie but animated
There are hundreds of film and T.V. versions of this story.
To be honest I’m suprised you didn’t mention anything about Judy Garland (Dorthey’s actress)
Ik it's terrible what they did
What happened
Nvm
So true.
The movie has such a dark feel ..
Me too! Maybe because it’s so bad that she wouldn’t share/tell it
Another weird fact about the wizard of Oz is that in one of the scenes the scarecrow had a gun... Like and actual gun! And of course being completely obsessed with the musical wicked I have to say: Fiyero as the scarecrow having a gun would make sense bcuz he was captain of the guards right?! Wicked conspiracies...
.
@@HelloThere-xh7vk ye I'm obsessed.🤣
Vicky Mitchell yeah! :D
I just watched a video right before I watched this about him doing that
I can remember their wishes
Lion: courage
Tin Man: a heart
Scarecrow: a brain
Dorathy: home
Savannah_plays yeah and I saw wicked so I remember why they wanted courage and a heart
Cringey..
I wish i would have a brain
Ninaaa R oh I also saw wicked as a field trip! I watched it in Hollywood you?
Savannah_plays I’ve only seen half of The Wizard Of Oz
A fact about the tin man: the tin man was allergic to the ingredients inside the makeup of his costume.the makeup coated his lungs and he had to go to the hospital for a while sadly couldn’t
Play the tin man anymore. Instead he played the scarecrow instead!
You're half right, it was Buddy Ebsen, who first played the Tin man and he was allergic to the makeup and he was replaced by Jack Haley. The Scarecrow was played by Ray Bolger, who later on played the grandfather on the Partridge Family.
@@jep624 Ebsen wasn't allergic, he had a bronchial condition that was aggravated by the aluminum powder.
Buddy Ebsen played the Scarecrow on stage a few years after having to leave the movie.
Did u know dorthy was put on drugs on set and one of the munchkins hanged themselves on set in a scene
Yeah Dorothy gotted drugged but the hanging munchkin is not real its just a crane
The hanging munchkin is a myth, it was frame and it looked like it was a munchkin
SWEET JESUS Christ that’s disturbing
Tawnya Balcuns It’s not a munchkin! It’s a craneee look it up
*crane
Now in the old movie let's talk about how the lion somehow is standing on his HIND LEGS and no one questions it
The slitherin Princess woah-
I questioned it too
*movie logic*
The slitherin Princess no one questions how all the animals talk too! Lol
...My car does that.
Every time she sneezes I almost say "bless you" on reflex then realize she can't hear me say it it. XD
Lol same.
Dragon Tamer08 okay but the people that do this are good people ❤️
Same.
Lmao same
Dragon Tamer08 u said it twice
Fun fact: They had to replace toto at the white flower field thing because so eine stepped on him\het
Those flowers were red. It was during filming of the scenes in the Winkie country that one of the soldiers stepped on Terry's paw. Her trainer got a double for her while she recovered, and she was back in two weeks.

What’s sad is Dorothy got payed the least because they were unfair to kid actors the scarecrow was payed the most
Ani Manoukian “paid” but that’s sad :
Maybe it also had something to do with her being a female
I know cus i dont think KIDS SHOULD GO ONN A MOVIE AND INSTEAD WATCH IT .buti know why cus the MAKEUP soooo ya
She got paid according to the contract system that MGM ran on. At this point, she'd only been with the studio for three years, and like all incoming talent, she had been started at $100.00 a week, and that figure was to increase as she continued with the company. By the time she was doing _Wizard,_ she had reached $500.00 a week, and her pay was to have gone up to $750.00 in 1940. But when _Wizard_ turned out to be a smash and the whole country was raving about Judy, MGM tore up her old contract and drew up a new one which started her at $2000.00 a week in 1940.
Jack Haley, who played the Tin Woodman, and had made 35 previous movies, was actually paid the most. He brought down $3000.00 a week, with $1000.00 of it going directly to Twentieth Century Fox, the studio to which he was contracted.
So it wasn't anything to do with "fair" or "unfair," it just depended on how long you'd been in the biz and how well you acquitted yourself in it.

Hey Jessi! I have another creepy fact! There’s a scene while all the characters are walking that in the distance you can see a munchkin hanging himself. It was a very gruesome scene for children. But just thought I would share since that wasn’t in the video! Love ur vids!

Ain't nobody gonna read this cos it's a short story but, whatever.
When I was staying at my sister's house I had this buzz light year toy and he was standing on my sister's bedside cabinet. I went to get a drink from the kitchen cos I was super thirsty after playing outside. I walked past my sister's room and the buzz toy started talking, as if someone pressed the button on him that makes him talk, yet, everyone was outside.
That scared the hell out of me, but I thought nothing of it. I went to bed later on at night in my sister's room and he said something again when I was lying in bed, I was facing the other way, I turned to face the toy and buzz was staring right at me. In a panic I threw him in the closet and shut the closet door.
When i came back to my house I immediately got rid of all my toy story toys and then I just got addicted to fnaf instead :p

She never went to Wonderland, that was Alice. And what do you mean by "accidently (sic) made her dress come up?"
Kinda fun fact: the red ruby slippers rnt actually bright red like they are in the movie... in movie they used Brighting thing lol to make them look more red... but in real life they are more burgandy
Yeah! In one of the scenes you
Can even see that they are really brown!
@@smoothsunshine3932 they were not brown at all. To create the ruby slippers, the white silk shoes were dyed red, then burgundy sequined organza overlays were attached to each shoe. The sequins for the ruby slippers had to be darker than most red sequins found today; bright red would have appeared orange on screen. or are you talking about that one scene in the movie when all those trees are throwing the apples at the Scarecrow? Garland can be briefly seen wearing a black shoe on her right foot.
@@amandamurray2197 okay, well sorry I’m wrong and you had to write that long of a comment just to correct me.
@ActingInProgress You're trolling. Color film existed before the 1930's, and anybody who knows anything about film history knows that this movie, and others made at the time, were filmed in color-- three-strip Technicolor, to be precise.

Fun fact:
In the book the wizard of oz. Dorothy's shoes were silver just like the writers. When the production crew went to get the rights of the book he asked them to change the color of the shoes because that was his personal touch. I learned that years ago in 3rd grade lol
"Silver just like the writers?" There was only one writer, L. Frank Baum, and he still had dark hair at the time he wrote it. And he died in 1919, twenty years before this movie was made.
@@2xelwanted You learned something inaccurate. The shoes in the book were silver, but the change to ruby for the 1939 movie had nothing to do with Baum, who had died in 1919.
" put on your red shoes and dance" yup, his personal touch, .....wonder why 🤔
When you live in Kansas and the wizard of oz was not made in Kansas:

Some things that are bizarre:
• The lion costume was actually made out of real lions
• A munchkin hanged themselves during the yellow brick road scene
• The actor who played The Wicked Witch Of The West was burned on set
• The snow in the movie, was made of asbestos which causes cancer
•Judy Garland was forced to lose 12 pounds to look more like a 12 year old
• The Wicked Witch actually swallowed a little bit of her copper makeup and was unable to eat for days
• In one scene, where Judy Garland was supposed to stay serious, she kept on laughing and the Director slapped her face and told her to get back to work
•In one scene, Judy was supposed to cry, so I think the crew or the director idk but someone told her that her real life dog died, so she would be able to cry
• Judy had to wear a painful dress to flatten her breasts
• Idk about this one but here it is: I think Judy took drugs so she can stay awake for more than 48 hours

Me: Literally ShOoK
xD
Why?
This is one of my favorite movies and what happened to the actors are sad. I'm happy they took the part out were the munchkin was hanging because it's sad...
What happened to the actors was that they made a movie. That's what they did for a living. Nobody got hanged; that was an idiotic story made up in the 1970's.
The munchkin who hung himself in the background at one point still makes me fear.
They say it was a monkey wing but im not buyin it
The "munchkin" that was hanged was obviously fake. It's just called editing.
Alexaintheback it’s actually called an editing mistake in the movie. I looked into it and it was confirmed to be a mistake and it happened to look like a hanging munchkin. Though someone close to the creator of the movie died and hung themself doesn’t really mean it is one.
@@saj1313 nope munchkin died

Can I just say that her sneezes are so cute!!
There use to be a munchkin that hung himself in the background stage when dorothy and her friends was leaving Tin man's forest but it was replace with a giant bird in the remaster version. I think it was prop, but its kinda disturbing that they had that in the first version of the movie.
There is only one version of the movie.
The Tin Woodman's introductory scene was initially filmed from November 6th to November 11th, 1938, but when someone realized that Jack Haley's suit was too shiny they knew they'd have to reshoot. So Wardrobe dirtied up the buckram Tin Woodman costume to make it look properly rusty, and the sequence was redone from November 15th to November 19th. It was a closed set with only authorized people permitted to enter. Each person there (and there were dozens, likely close to a hundred) had a task to perform, including set dressers and lighting technicians in the gantries up close to the ceiling.
Birds were brought in, lent by the Los Angeles Zoo, including a saurus crane that at one point lunged for Ray Bolger, attracted by the straw stuffing in his costume. That crane appeared in the back of the set for however many takes they did of the shot of Dorothy and her friends heading upstage, and in the take selected by Film Editor Blanche Sewell, the crane was seen to peck at the ground, then rear up and spread its wings.
The next sequences filmed were the Cowardly Lion's intro scene (November 21st to 22nd), scenes in and around the Wicked Witch's castle (November 29th to December 3rd), and the Poppy Field scene (December 9th to 10th).
The Munchkinland sequence began filming on December 17th, a month after the Tin Man scene was (if I may put it that way) in the can.
Did you know that the scene when scarecrow and Dorothy met him man a munchkin can be seen in the background hanging thereselfe
That’s a bird.

Yeah i saw that to one kid pointed it out and i was babysitting some kids and everyone started to scream and cry 😅
Ya🥺
People see things all time in the film that are not there. Blow up that scene and you will see that it's just a piece of scenery that fell down not one of the munchkins.

My grandmother and I used to watch this at her house all the time. Whenever we'd watch it, we'd act it out where I was Dorothy and she was Auntie Em, and I'd always get mad at her because she'd always blow her lines despite how many times she'd watch the movie. Now I'm turning 17 in two days and my school is doing the production of The Wizard of Oz!
Are you in it?
There is a movie about the witches from wizard of Oz and it tells how the two women become witches
Oz The Great & Powerful?
@@judygarlandfan22 isint that just wicked lol
Michael Mcdonough no there is a movie called oz the great and powerful but it’s mostly based around oz and his story
What's the name of the movie i want to watch it.
Wicked? Because that’s a book and a musical.
The person who played Dorthy had drugs on set to keep her awake!
Oh yeah I forgot about that!
Ikr 😱
@Aitchtick No. O’Rourke had Contracted Giardiasis and had Crohn’s disease. She died from septic shock due to congenital stenosis of her lower intestine/bowel. Absolutely no parallel to Judy Garland’s death whatsoever.
@Aitchtick she died when she was 12, on an operating table after her intestines burst.
Her name is Judy gale-
1.dorty was sexually and physically abused on set when shooting wizard of oz
2.they made dorty wear a corset so tigh because the wanted her body to really resemble a 12 year old and that made her breast hurt ALOT
3.dorty was also drugged while shooting some were so the munchkins could sexually harass her and some because since the movie was made so long ago they couldn't take breaks so they gave dorty drugs so she would stay up to 48 hours 😤🥺💖
1. Her name was Judy, and no she was not.
2. The corset was uncomfortable, but not painful, and she never complained about it.
3. She used no drugs, nobody sexually harassed her, they took frequent breaks because the lights had to be shut off so the studio could be aired out, and because of California child labor laws, Judy only worked for four hours a day.
P.S.: The character's name is Dorothy, not "dorty."
Her shoes were the most expensive Shoes in the world and still to this day
how much were they?
@@kitty3613 I looked up how much they would be worth. According to google, One pair of slippers that got stolen and then recovered may be worth between $2 million and $3 million! (the exact number of shoes they had for that movie is unknown but there are only five pairs now that still exist)
The fact they don't even glow
In the scene where they are singing with the tin man and scarecrow, in the background a munchkin is hanging himself
No its a bird. Someone made a fake picture of it
