Right back at you brother. Yes, there are many different ways to catch them, several that we didn't mention at all in this video. However, these are the two that I think are fun and relatively easy to do as a family. And the other part that is fun to do as a family is eat em!
Looked like a good time out there. I've never "Crabbed" unless you count when I get up early after working all night, I'm kind of crabby then. It looks interesting. Two thumbs up!
Thanks Dana! I can definitely relate to feeling crabby after working all night -- in fact that's me right now! We didn't focus on the eating part, but that is what makes crabbing even more worthwhile. That, plus there aren't many treble hooks at risk of finding your hand!😳😬
Thanks Mike! Delicious crabs that night, to bad we didn't do the 'cook' part of this video... That turtle was so big that at first I thought it was a snapper?!!
What kind of filmmaker are you?!? 😂🤣😂 Oh my, that was funny! In the heat of the moment , there isn’t a person out there that hasn’t missed that record button (or worse yet double punch it) The crabs and turtle made for a fun day. Great family time Randy. Looks like some good eatin’ 👍
I've made this mistake before which makes it even more painful -- when the camera is asleep, you hit the record button TWICE, but mostly I film on my phone or GoPro and it's only ONCE for record!💁♂️ I appreciate the comment Dave, it makes me feel better. And yes, that was some mighty fine eatin' for sure!
We use chicken legs and the crabs seem to attach must easier ! We use the string and pull them in. Maybe next time try that!! Great video! We just went crabbing this morning
@@fatherandsonsfishing I was watching it and thinking "why don't we see the view from the other camera" and then you said you didn't have it turned on. I had to laugh because I've done the same thing many times. It's nice to know I'm not the only one.
Great participation of the Sons in your crabbing lesson video share. I am sure they enjoy this special time, the fun and excitement during the Q&A, well thought of presentation. New friend here, like 29, good engagement,I am now connected.
I absolutely love hand lining for crustaceans! I've never been crabbing before though but it seems very similar to crayfishing here. Nice work with the crabs, and the turtle, and that frisbee crab was epic hahaha
Haha, thanks mate! I'll bet that frisbee crab was swimming around in circles for a minute once we landed, lol. Agree about crabbing and crayfishing; I've watched your crayfishing videos and thought how similar it is to how we crab. Tight lines and full traps mate!
Yeah, I don't think you'll find em in Wisconsin, but if you ever get a chance to try crabbing in the east or the south, you should give it a try! We didn't show this part of it in the video, but they are really good to eat too!
Haha, I doubt that will be the case Chris! I'm looking forward to seeing how y'all do it, I always learn something from your videos. AND... Hopefully we can get a catch & cook? We steam our crabs, but I'd love to do a cajun crab boil sometime...
That's awesome, Adam! I just saw your photos on IG. What is the name of your drone channel? I've never flown mine over this location, but it's been on my list.
@@fatherandsonsfishing @fissionbomb.pmr is my drone channel and IG. I have it linked in my bio. I fly FPV so it is a little different from most drone channels.
Great video. We haven't been crabbing in ages. The scene with the "special catch" was awesome. It reminds me of my life. I think I have everything set and the camera is rolling.....and then boom no footage. You guys look like you had so much fun out there. I never thought to modify the trap. I hate the flimsy string they come with. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks brother! I love to take the family fishing, but I think crabbing is the ultimate family experience, especially when you get to eat em! I realized early on that those strings were too flimsy and I've never regretted switching them out; when it gets snaggy you can just horse those traps right in, kinda like fishing with 50lb braid, lol! I hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe!
Love crab better than lobsta, but for me, getting Lobsta is easier. Best crab cakes I ever had were from a place in Baltimore, never get crab cakes up here in NE, can’t compare. Funny that we both posted shellfish vids on the same day. Like you said Randy, great minds think alike. 🦀🦞👍✌️
Great video guys! Loved it! I hope to add a basket to our arsenal at some point, but the land lines have worked well for us. I think land lining and using a net is easier if you can do it at water level. Great job and congrats on catching a few!
Thank you very much! I completely agree with you about the handline at water level. After watching your crabbing video, it’s really made me want to find a place to try that out, especially for the kids. Y’all really have a good system that worked really well!

If you are like me and don't have a boat, both crabbing and shrimping are a little more challenging. But through trial and error, and checking google maps, I have been lucky to find a few places that are good from shore. Good luck!
Thank you! It's super effective and they're about 14 bucks on Amazon. I believe these are Eagle Claw brand. You sometimes see string traps in shops, but I'd definitely recommend going with metal since they do get beat up a bit.
@@joshuathomas6755 This place is in Collington and it’s right across from the Fire Station. A really accessible place to try is under the bridge from Nags Head to Manteo. There is a huge dock, parking, and plenty of places to crab.

Try use bologna on hook and line from shore when i was like 5yr old thats how i saw my whole family on shore, crab would grab, and dad would just yank the crab gp flying overhead then in a bucket it went i dont even remember eat them just the fun catching then was awesome
What did you do to those crabs to sedate them like that pre-ice? You hold a just caught crab like that up here in OC, you’re gonna lose a finger. We hold them by the 2 back flippers to ‘paralyze’ them w their claws up and out. Nice catches though. Bet they tasted good!
Haha, thanks John! And yes, they were GOOD! Either those guys had coronavirus or I am just the crab whisperer, LOL! The only thing different about this trip was that I didn't have the tongs in my hand very much and by default I was handling the crabs right out of the nets/traps way more than would be normal. You have more crabbing experience than I do, but what I noticed during this trip is that they pretty much behaved when I really grabbed them with authority (which is what I had to do to hand-grab them right out of the traps). I'm sure you've noticed the same while fishing, but it seems like if you try to lip a fish it squirms way more than if you firmly grab it behind the neck. Perhaps that was the reason here? Regardless, I'd still like crab whisperer to be part of the equation... 😂🤣🦀
