Australia needs more of these as these 18,s are easy to fly and cheap, the f35 is also good but to expensive plenty of spare parts around for the 18,s .
I must point out that they are not Boeing aircraft. McDonnell Douglas developed the Northrop YF-17 into the F/A-18. These RAAF F18 were all assembled in Australia at GAF. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_Douglas_F/A-18_Hornet_in_Australian_service
"ASSEMBLED'' in australia but main parts and components are "MANUFACTURED" elsewhere mainly from Boeing plants since Mcdonell douglas does not exist anymore, now its just called BOEING since the merger and then Boeing Australia has also provided maintenance services for the aircraft until their retirement in 2021.
@@jerski14344 McDonnell Aircraft and the Douglas Aircraft Company merged in 1967. MD produced the DC-10 airliner, the F-15 Eagle air superiority fighter, and F/A-18 Hornet multirole fighter and more. All Australian assembled F/A-18 were delivered to RAAF by 1990. Boeing merged with MD in 1997. Your statement "MANUFACTURED" elsewhere mainly from Boeing plants is BS.
WHEN? I understood that had sold our classics to Canada etc? How many are still in service? I would like to return to Avalon for next airshow. CCP virus and weather permitting!
They are currently being sent out to Canada as the F35's roll in from Luke, Hornets scheduled to be phased out for around end of 2020. May still keep a few around at Tindal for 75 squadron but if you wanna see them don't wait too long for it.

Off to do a live shoot of Sidewinders? On the Worimi one it looked like the Sidewinder had an extra sensor on the front.
