- 2 Week Trial of Our Courses- mzeroa.lpages.... - This weeks video is much longer than a typical MzeroA.com video but I wanted to share with you a recent flight from KIFP to KSEZ. During this video you will see the challenges presented during a long cross country flight over the Grand Canyon through special flight rules airspace. Some of these challenges include a 360 degree climbing turn to clear a ridge-line (00:11:17), receiving VFR flight following in route (00:29:50), communication issues with relay communications from another pilot (00:35:25), and high density altitude aircraft performance.
Shadow from an overpassing aircraft at 17:40 tripped me out for a minute. Thought I was imagining things...
Yes that was a surprise when I saw it for the first time as well. Just perfect time and crossing traffic above.
There is something relaxing about just following Jason on a cross country flight. Would definitely love to see more of this type content. It’s both educational, entertaining, and inspiring. Honestly, series like this are what are truly inspiring me to become a pilot.
I haven't read what others have said, but this full flight format is fantastic. I really enjoyed it and it helped my 'need to fly' bug. Also thanks for the self-talk. It reminds me of all that goes through a pilot's head when flying. Keep up the great work
I love this type of video. I feel like I can learn so much from your procedures and just simply watching the flight with you explaining things.
My flight sim skills have gone (pun intended) sky-high since I started watching this guy a week or two ago.
Enjoyed the video! Sedona airport has a great restaurant. On our recent trip to Sedona we enjoyed the sunset from the airport and then dinner. Awesome!
i love this kind of video my brother!!! As Faa PPL holder haven't flown since i got my PPL and this just give me a sense of comfort till i can get back behind those controls. Not financially fit at this present moment. Thanks again keep them coming!!
Jason, fantastic to watch. Could have watched for entire two hour flight. Amazing views. Thanks for all you do!!!
Great video Jason. I really like it when you put the Ipad on the right screen.
Jason this your best video yet! I entered your flight plan on my subscription of foreflight and followed along. I could understand a lot more than just watching. Very interactive. You should encourage your other viewers to do so as it is very helpful and no one else builds videos around it. Bty I don’t usually post comments but I really loved this video!!! More long distance trips! Perhaps over water like the Bahamas or maybe Mexico boarder crossing. Very fun vid!
Gotta say, that was great watching your entire flight. Hearing your thoughts at each stage along the route was very instructionsl. Although, that is now a must-do flight. I live about 30 miles from the Canyon and am now going to work a route over it to Monument Valley. Just a little info, there is rarely a day in this area (KIGM) where the surface winds are not a solid 15-20 often gusting to 35-40. You all at MzeroA do a great job providing quality instruction in an easy-to-understand manner. Love your channel.
I like this long, real life videos. Very informative with all the cockpit details! Thanks
I really like these video's along with your regular instruction ones. Keep them both coming.
Great vid for all sorts of reasons -- mountain flying techniques, great views, ATC work, chart work, special airspace... and more!
Some of the best real world instruction on UA-cam- thanks again Jason.
Love this style of longer journey. 👍🍺
Cool flightplan . Followed it on my ForeFlight. You gave me a good idea how to pull it off in my 172. Great tutorial.
Debbie is still playing the video you did for her. Made her day! Thanks much for that and for this video... Ron
Great video. Finally, the real Jason with random real world flying. Did anyone notice there is someone sitting next to him.... What are you hiding Jason?? ; )
Jason, I really enjoyed this video. Love seeing real world flying.. Thank you. I live in AZ so it was nice to see home as well...
Love the other airplane shadow at 17:00 mark!
Hey Jason I just came across this video randomly on UA-cam. I thought I recognized your voice I did my part 107 training with you. And actually I need to go back because I let it expired.I need to go back through your course again online and get the baby updated it. I’m also a private pilot and Sedona is one of my favorite places to fly to. I did my private pilot training in Phoenix Sky Harbor years ago. I actually met you in person at the drone conference in Vegas several years ago. Interdrone I believe it was. Anyway thanks for the great videos.
Enjoy your video's Jason! Prepping for my check ride and appreciate you sharing the knowledge.
Love the glass cockpit, wow that's some upgrades
I did my flight training in Phoenix and did a few cross countries to Bullhead City. Great little airport with good FBO.
Piece of Cake Slick.
Such a Great Channel
I am the pilot I could never afford to Be.
Take Care!
CPT. Jason, I have to hand it to you this was one great video. what you said about flatlander pilots as you entered the pattern there is absolutely true. And for sure your landing there highlighted transition and not flare!!! Hope you enjoy the good food that's a great place to eat at Sedona airport. Jason the flight that you just conducted there is the type of VFR following flight that I've always wanted to do but never had the time. I've enjoyed the video so much I think I'll have a cup of coffee and watch it again. Corially, Chuck📖🛫🛬
Glad you liked it! VFR flight following is definitely something worth trying and utilizing as much as possible. Its a great service and a great aid to situational awareness.
@@MzeroAFlightTraining how true about situational awareness my wife really learned the value of flight following when she was in training! why not use it? It don't cost no more lol!! I also heard what you said about the extra devices that you had on board! And I definitely agree with you on that hey anything that adds to safety! Redundancy redundancy redundancy amen!! 📖🛫🛬
I love the long video!
great video, lots to learn
I completed a similar flight about 8 years ago with friends. We departed seattle and stopped for gas in Ely, Nevada. We landed in Sedona awstruck.
This has to be my most favorite video on youtube.
Good to see you out in our neighborhood Jason, Mountain flying is a blast!
Jon Rich
This was a fun trip thanks for bringing us along!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching, Aaron!
❤ HI My name is Francie van zyl...Pilot in training busses with right hand patterns....thanks for ure video's they have inspired me through my course so far🎉😊
Did my tower controlled airport training at Bullhead! Sweet little spot to learn ATC comms as a student pilot! Cool to see you in my area Jason!
Loved it! I feel like I could log this flight. Thanks!
The Armin van Buuren of flying. Thanks for the awesome video man! So cool
Awesome, great video! Sad I missed you while you were here at my home airport, LVK, and also enjoyed the Hayward -> Livermore IFR flight. Keep 'em coming!
Wonderful flight...just beautiful scenary...and of course, I learned that it's perfectly fine to do a 360 orbit to climb to get higher when approaching a range...love it...the length was perfect!
I’ve done a 360 orbit after taking us from Henderson Nevada in order to clear the mountains before heading back to Phoenix.
Learnt something new this is awesome.
Glad to hear it!
beautiful flying. 90 mins went by way to fast in this video. was interesting to see the differences in Florida flying. safe travels getting back to the sunshine state.
Great to see you fly the Canyon. I flew it this morning as well taking off from Marble airport L41, through all the corridors and flew at 14,800' MSL over the entire river back to KPGA. I ran the river in a raft last month on a private trip with friends (highly recommended) and was able to see the rapids we ran, easy to recognize from above. On the way back to KGUC from KPGA I had to divert to KBDG Blanding UT and stay overnight as there were strong gusting winds at home. Time to look at some YT videos. Glad to find this one. Sedona was one of my target destinations as well, but it will be for another time. Thanks for your video.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Wouter!
10:52 I fly a turbo and I still do 360's there lol. Your videos are freakin awesome, I learn something every time I watch them! Thank you!
Locals at KSEZ usually land uphill on 03 unless there is a significant wind favoring 21
Thanks for the tip! I'll be flying to Flagstaff in a couple weeks, and this info. is usefull)
I don't like anybody else but I love these whole flight videos great video Jason
Very nice!!! Love the different camera angles and map overlay.
Jason, great flight video.
You’re flying in my backyard. I commute from KTUS thru this region frequently in my Archer II.
Flying the corridors in the GC is spectacular but you’ve got to land at L41 at Marble Canyon. Descending down below the canyon rim and landing on a narrow, crooked and rough asphalt runway is a challenge but talk about an experience you won’t soon forget.
Happy flying!
Thanks for sharing! Fly safe!
Should have filmed the whole thing brother. That entire area is beautiful. I still really enjoyed the video🙂👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback, Branon!
Nice video , Saw the shadow too at 17:36. Can you comment on a your best route from KMOT crossing the Rockies towards KPSP during the fall?
Loved watching the long form video.
Nice video. I used to fly very often in the mountains. Its kind of normal here for swiss pilots. Density Alt is always to consider during summer.
FTI, across the river is Laughlin, NV. That's the casino town. Excellent video.
This was a great Flight. I would love to see more similar length videos! Dale
All the little details so instructive. Thanks!
Thank you for the take-along ride!
very cool would like to see it to fly safe Thanks for video Beaufiul nice infro fly safe
Thanks for watching!
Love the longer videos . Hope to see more
great video!!
Excellent flight vlog. I would love to see more xcountry, mountain, and high density altitude flights.
THANK UUU VERY MUCH!!! I LEARNED A FEW THINGS⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Glad we can help! Thanks for watching, Alejandro!
Thanks for the ride. Very informative. Good experience.
That was a great video, I learned a lot about your great cross country procedures, wish we could’ve traveled how long the rest of the way
Laughlin Nevada - Arizona
Very cool, great vid. Still on my bucket list to do !
Awesome video!! Keep up the good work.
Who is that in the back seat? Nice video!!
Amazing video ! Keep it coming !
Around the 31 minute mark, ATC asked what your equipment was? You replied “Gulf”.... What’s that mean???
He said "golf". /G corresponds to mode-C transponder + GPS RNAV.
This is great to see! Love it!
You flew from FL to AZ? Nice 👍 My flight review is this week 😀
SEZ runway 3 is uphill so it’s usually better to land that way and take off down hill on 21 if the winds are fairly calm.
Very educational; thanks.
Hi! Great video here. Could you do a video on how to properly plan a flight into the Grand Canyon? Any good tips on arriving and departing the SFRA? Taking the wife to our honeymoon on our Cessna.
Noticed crossing traffic 9 to 3 oclock at about 17:40, probably jet traffic in the flight levels....
Great 👍 video Jason. What type cameras are you using and at what settings? If using GoPro is Protune On and at what settings? I have a Hero 7 Black and am using 1080 at 30 FPS. Most computers and monitors don’t support 4K at 60fps. Love your channel. Thanks 🙏.
Love this video, I was able to follow along with skyvector. Did you forget to input the altimeter when you first received flight following? I noticed the GCN VFR chart says to monitor frequencies and use different altimeters (LAS when west of Diamond Creek and GCN when east of Diamond Creek), so is it not required when your are already receiving flight following?
look at ground at 17:35. big plane just flew over you.
What a great airplane.
Flying vicariously through you today and love'n it! Thank You! I do have a question about a symbol west of flagstaff that looks like a wagon wheel w/out the center hub. I am not asking google the correct question to get the answer so I figured I'd ask you and your followers. It's just inside the compass rose at 270*. What is that "wagon wheel" symbol for?
Brilliant! 👏👌
How is the plane after the incident in Wisconsin
im curious also.
skysurv I can only assume this video was before the damage, I am only assuming though.
Plane needs a few significant repairs. They relate to the wing spar and skin of the wing. They will be completed and she will fly again. We will share the videos once they are completed. Rest assured, plenty of Russ Cam.
Never did see the VOR you pointed out at 41:50
Love this dry part of the country, lived in New Mexico my whole life. Are there CFI conventions? How much do long cross country flights like this cost these days?
Great job, where's the footgage of you flying through Star Wars Canyon? Also followed the entire flight via Google Earth as I watched, very cool!
Jason, thanks for a great video... just wondering though, why do you always fly in the passenger’s seat? Is it because you’re left handed ?
I hope that this is not a silly question, but why are you sitting in the right hand seat? In my aéroclub (in LFMD) the rule is strictly that the PIC sits in the left hand seat.
Nice!
Watch out for the Groom Lake, Neveda area.... apparently they dont take kindly to aircraft busting their airspace 👽
I would’ve started leaning for peak EGT, RPM and fuel flow around 11:05 time stamp.
What is that shed you passed at 2:50? Looks lonely out there on A9
What's with the mystery passenger....hmmmm....??
Do you have to adjust the mixture when landing at a high DA airport? I guess you have to but what's the best way to go about it, to know how much you should push in the mixture? Thanks :)
Density altitude calculation @ takeoff
My "neck of the woods" AZ at least.
Great Video Jason! I have a question about leaning out the mixture based on DA....how do you figure that out?
Aaron Weisblatt you can lean the mixture at any DA. It’s done by monitoring the EGT indicator. Slowly pulling the mixture watching for an increase in EGT, continue to pull until you notice a slight decrease in EGT. Reverse the action and push mixture in slightly to return to peak EGT or a bit more forward for safety.
It’s best to keep it a little more forward as any change in altitude or throttle position will require you to adjust the mixture again
@@adamhart1293 Thanks Adam - that's what I normally do and I set my egt to 1400 once at cruise altitude in my 172....but thats' for flights under 6k. don't have any experience flying higher in high DA. I imagine the number would change.
@@AaronWbirdman Peak EGT does not change significantly with altitude. Either way, just find the peak as you lean out and then bring it a bit lower with further leaning (or by going back a little richer if you swing that way). Could do the same with peak RPMs for a given power setting, too, which will be more responsive than EGT anyway. And if you're adjusting as you climb, it makes sense to shoot for lean of peak since the proper setting will always be leaner as you go up. Then, you can aim on the rich side upon descent. Just don't stay _on_ peak since it's not great for the engine.
28:00 "calm winds" not so much for you! where were they?! lol
133 updates....dang!
You have a quiet passenger.
Hi Jason, do you ever have your iPad get hot and cut off? if so did you come up with a remedy for this.
You live Arizona???
Wow I didn't know the 172 can climb up to 6500
