Consider that this song came out late 70's to mid 80's. He already saw what direction society was heading!!

This song, I believe is talking about how much Country Music has changed over the years. George Jones song "who"s going to fill their shoes" talks about this point. There are very few country music artist today that play like or similar to the country music that Hank Williams Jr. is use to making. The nice smooth, tell a story, kind of music.

    • @edford1693
      @edford1693 3 роки тому +30

Yes it could be about how much Country has changed over the years with a few word changes.
However it was released in 1980 on the "Habits, Old And New" album and was referring to Disco music.

Evidently you have not listened closely to the song or looked at the lyrics -
Hey man them ain't high heel sneakers
And they sure don't look like cowboy boots
And that ain't rock and roll you're playin'
And it sure ain't country or rhythm and blues
You're singin' a song about making love to your drummer
Well gay guitar pickers don't turn me on
And we don't all get into Donna Summer
Do you happen to know any old Hank Williams songs
'Cause you see I'm a dinosaur
I should have died out a long time before
      Have pity on a dinosaur
Hand me my hat, excuse me man, but where's the door
It used to be, I had a lot of fun in this old hang-out
We'd get stoned at the jukebox and stay out of fights
Now and then, we'd light a little smoke in the truck out back (Aww)
Then a little old Jim Beam and we'd get right
And you know these flashin' lights sure make me dizzy
And this disco's very strange to my ears
It looks like they've turned the Longhorn into a spaceship
And I'll be leavin' just as soon as I finish this beer
'Cause you see I'm a dinosaur
Should have died out a long time before
There's a whole lot of dinosaurs
So give us our hats, excuse me man, but where's the door
Get us our hats, excuse me man, but where's the door
where does it say anything about going into a gay bar?

As a huge HANK fan, so glad to see you do this less popular song. I have always loved this song...it really does describe how alot of us fans of "older country music" feel today. The new stuff is more pop than country. Nothing wrong with pop music, I like that too, but I don't want pop music when I'm in a slow groove country kind of mood. It's about getting older and not being ok with the new changes, how we wish things would stay the way they were. And there are alot of us that feel like dinosaurs. Great reaction! Listen to “I’ll never get out of this world alive” from all three hanks. They all recorded their own and intertwined all three generations of hank in one song. First one died with jr was 3 at 29 years old, sr was considered the all time great.

Also "Stoned at the Jukebox" was a hit in the early 70s, a song Hank Jr wrote about his own life at the time. Great song to check out.

I said 'no ma'am, he's between my legs, but you're too fat to ride'"

You HAVE GOT TO listen to his Dad, Hank Williams, Sr. It is hard for some people to listen to. This was back in the late 40's and 50's. The man died before he was 30. Some people feel he doesn't get enough credit or play. He wrote unbelievable songs and that makes him an Immortal.

OMG I remember those days. Used to go to a place out in the country called the Hilltop. Listen to a band play rock and country. Drink some whiskey and when the band went on a break, we'd go outside and smoke some in the parking lot. Some real good times!!

Dude, I absolutely LOVED your reaction to this old song cuz you really get it! There are plenty of us old "Dinosaurs" that are still out here and not "Cotton" to a lot of the new music coming outta Nashville/ Detroit/ Los Angeles. We just like good ol' rythm and blues n rock n roll. A fantastic reaction, thanks buddy!!
