Hi Elliot; I watched half of the video before posting this. I'm Welsh and my wife is Spanish. We have a home in the Axarquia, Malaga. Most people all over the world have no idea about other people and that extends to Malaga despite the tourists. A certain amount of Spaniards will refer to Americans and the British in cultural clichés. If those descriptors were reversed it would be a cultural, even racist, stereotype. There are British tourists that are mental and go to cheap, Spanish, holidays to get wrecked. Thousands more go to look at art, taste wine, birdwatch, go walking, etc, etc. The issue with the British goes back a long way and it is completely misguided due to a brainwashing education system. The Brits love going to Spain and that was encouraged by the cheap holidays designed by Manuel Fraga and Franco to bring money to poor parts of Spain. The plan, which has worked, was to encourage mass and cheap tourism. That's not the only picture though. Thousands of American and British tourists visit wild and wonderful parts of Spain every year This infantile and ignorant attitude of tourists is offensive as it projects people as the same. British people used to make ridiculous and insulting stereotypes of the Spanish in the 1970s and 80s. In Britain today that's unacceptable. Why is it acceptable for Spaniards to make stereotype in the same way? WT

I think most peoples' impressions or opinions about Americans or Brits in this video is they drink a lot.. Is that untrue? I don't think so.. However, I've been pleasently surprised to meet wonderful Brits scattered around the country - they usually live on a nice rural property in the mountains somewhere and really love the culture, language, weather, etc.. But when you have massive crowds or places like Benidorm, Malaga, Fuengirola, etc, that's where these attitudes come from.

@@AdventureElliot If you allow parts of your country to turn into a Benidorm, Ibiza, Torremolinos, etc, which have 24 hour clubs, sex shows, cheap food and alcohol in the burning hot sun, what do imagine the results to be? The decision to encourage cheap tourism was made at a political level by Franco and his Minister of Tourism, Manuel Fraga, together with the wealthy Spanish landowning elites. American and British tourists in the 50's and 60's were the wealthy who could afford travel. Today, it's open to anybody and you will get the good and bad. By the way, not every Brit is obsessed with alcohol and most drink in moderation. It's a tiny minority that let the side down.
I'm constantly reading about bad tourists but tourism counts for 25% of Spanish GDP. People come from all over the world for holidays. It's hardly necessary to learn a foreign language for every country you want to visit. English, whether people like it or not, is the Lingua Franca. That became a big talking point in the latest Spanish election because if the PP won, Senor Feijoo would be at a disadvantage in international meetings where English is the common language. Obviously, if you want to live in Spain you should try to learn Spanish.
Most British people I meet know nothing at all about Spain or Spanish history but the same is true the other way round except it's even worse. My wife's elderly uncle goes on and on about how great Spain is and was. In an age when the concept of Empire is in the dustbin you will find many Spaniards who think their Empire was the greatest thing ever. Loosing that empire and the international isolation that followed had a profound effect on the psyche and education of many Spaniards as they turned in on themselves economically and culturally. My wife's uncle has hundreds and hundreds of books by Spanish authors and about Spain and the empire. He knows nothing about anything else. He delights in informing me about some Spanish naval victory over the English in the 17th Century (like I gave a shit). His sister, my mother in law was the same. They went to school in Valladolid during the 1940's and 50's and were subject to educational brainwashing during the worst years of Francoism. Every bit of printed material was subject to censorship. They were taught how the regime was great and reflected eternal 'Spanish' values. The reason given by the regime as to why Spain had fallen so far was that it had been infected by outside influences. Foreign things and ideas originating outside the country were rejected. It's not expressed like that any more, of course, but that pernicious attitude still exists in a much watered down way: Spanish food is the best, Spanish climate is the best, Spanish way of life is the best, etc, etc.
The way many Spaniards look at the English speaking world is highly complex and goes back centuries. The kids you spoke to might not know it but they're part of that process. 99% of British people today couldn't care less about their shared history with Spain but a great many Spaniards do care as witnessed in this interesting video.

@@welshtoro3256 It's cheap for you because the country itself is cheaper than yours but those places are actually expensive for us. We do not cut prices for the tourist to get here. Those places are actually very very expensive in comparison. Minimun wage here is less than 1k/month and a random flat in Ibiza in the summer cost 3.5k per month. An ingeneer in Spain earns less than the minimum wage of the UK for example (and Germany, Belgium, France...).
A lot of the Benidorm/Ibiza companies are not even from Spain. In the end you can also go there, rent or buy a place and do your thing too like everyone else did before, it's a very global place. But yeah, Ibiza is one of the most expensive places in Spain, you pay 20 bucks for a drink there. I pay 5 buck for a drink in the other side of Spain (on top of Portugal) just to give you context.

Some people rise above that, but a lot of people gets brainwashed by that. The insane amount of americans living abroad saying that they had no idea this and that shows that really well. Not all spanish people like to dance but when you are immersed in a culture where there's music everywhere and where a lot of people have that habit, you're more likely to dance and to like it.

Spain is a cheap destination for UK citizens. Cheap ticket planes, cheap food, cheap booze. Half the country has visited Spain, and the other half has watched the sitcom "Benidorm".
Tourists from the US are a different species: they usually are more highly educated, have more money, are less drunk and obnoxious, and more willing to integrate with the locals, instead of searching for British ghettos where you can have piss-poor British beer and full English breakfast... in Spain.

Many of the Anglo-Saxon peoples tend to be quite arrogant, barbaric and uncultured. I had an American friend that expected to see skyscrapers in Salamanca 😅, even if he had in front the oldest university in Europe. But not all of you are the same (even though many of you are quite similar). We have that image about Anglo people because most of you come to Europe like if you are coming to a second class country (especially the British) and most of you drink up to be in coma at the hospital causing many problems... It's like Magaluf in Mallorca, you will see a horde of barbarians instead of British people 🤨.

Ignorance about foreigners is not exclusive to either the U.S. or the U.K. as we can see here. The guy reducing Americans to cowboys or the other reducing the British to someone wearing a top hat sums it up. Seriously, how many British tourists actually jump from balconies into pools? I didn't hear one intelligent comment. Perhaps if Ellot had asked older or more educated people he would have had different responses. I wonder how many of the people interviewed actually read.
