This song could only have been created by geniuses. In 1987, as a teenager, I bought this album and when I heard "Like Cockatoos" for the first time I was enchanted, I couldn't believe that something so fantastic was created by human hands. The song is so incredibly brutally well composed, it's simply unimaginable! And the magic continues to this day. I'm so glad The Cure exists!
I agree so much. I'm only 21 years old but I'm basically going through what you went through when you were younger right now. I've loved The Cure for a good ten years, but I'm only just discovering the deeper, rawer songs recently. Powerful stuff!
Lyrics She walked out of her house And looked around At all the gardens that looked Back at her house (Like all the faces That quiz when you smile) And he was standing At the corner Where the road turned dark A part of shiny wet Like blood the rain fell Black down on the street And kissed his feet she fell Her head an inch away from heaven And her face pressed tight And all around the night sang out Like cockatoos "There are a thousand things" he said "I'll never say those things to you again" And turning on his heel He left a trace of bubbles Bleeding in his stead And in her head A picture of a boy who left her Lonely in the rain (And all around the night sang out like cockatoos) Songwriters: Boris Williams / Laurence Andrew Tolhurst / Porl Thompson / Robert James Smith / Simon Gallup
this was the first, very first cd I bought, I still remember the color and graphics of the cardboard sleeve and inner plastic sleeve. sssoooooo good! late 80's FTW!
Extraordinary video! Goes well with another of my favorites. "Bring on the dancing horses." Echo and the bunnymen. Not many people who can stand the truth of things like this. The truth of what things add up to at times. I had a dream the other night. It was lovely. She was affectionate, a simple gothic, crow haired beauty. Wish I could have dreamt forever. Nothing overtly racey. No shock or degradation. Kissing and embracing. The feeling of true love, passing between our hearts and souls. I cry
Thanks for this Clan of Paranor. A much missed song I used to remember playing over and over again. You can't kill the Goth in someone, however long ago it was ;) Great video and excellent sound quality.
yeah the fact that this vid fits the song so well with imagery much newer than the music shows how influential the band was and how well the music ages--and the good job whoever put the video together did
Blimey its been 3 years since I noticed your heart stamp on my last post Clan of Paranor. Upgraded my Harley Davidson since then. The video and song still hits the spot. Classic. Prends soin x☺
I can not upload this song to my page and post it as a response. I feel I must reach out to the creator of this video. To The Cure, and to everyone who comes here. Pink Floyd - Chapter 24 Love and good fortune to all!
this song always had a vibe of a a procession of sorcerers ,belly dancers, jugglers at a dark festival processing down boubon street at midnight. not trolling just personal imagery that the song giveth.
She walked out of her house And looked around At all the gardens that looked Back at her house (Like all the faces That quiz when you smile) And he was standing At the corner Where the road turned dark A part of shiny wet Like blood the rain fell Black down on the street And kissed his feet she fell Her head an inch away from heaven And her face pressed tight And all around the night sang out Like cockatoos "There are a thousand things" he said "I'll never say those things to you again" And turning on his heel He left a trace of bubbles Bleeding in his stead And in her head A picture of a boy who left her Lonely in the rain (And all around the night sang out like cockatoos)
Shame that Robert smith has declared several times that he and the cure were everything but goths... He actually said most of my songs are pop.. And he mentioned another artist I think was(patty smiths) close to that kind of music for people who sleep in coffins.....
i will love Robert Smith forever ... the kiss me kiss me kiss me album has to be the most bi polar of all of them - from happy catchy 'hot hot hot' and 'catch' to the darkest rage of 'shiver and shake' ... and then of course - The Kiss. If you've never been raped, listening to that song leaves you feeling like you have. very powerful
May someone help me to understand what irt says...? I mean, does it talk about a guy that commited suicide...? Is that why it says And in her head a picture of a boy who left her lonely in the rain

But Robert stated that he would have liked "to be Cocteau Twins"...😁
Every couple years I wake up humming this song(it started 5 days ago). Nothing can displace it - it just has to run its course.
this was the first, very first cd I bought, I still remember the color and graphics of the cardboard sleeve and inner plastic sleeve. sssoooooo good! late 80's FTW!
favourite song of all time. just beautiful.

I think this is the most underrated Cure album
Thanks for this Clan of Paranor.
A much missed song I used to remember playing over and over again.
You can't kill the Goth in someone, however long ago it was ;)
Great video and excellent sound quality.
Indeed you cant... indeed.
I love the atmosphere of this video ... so hypnotic and dark. I have to watch it again ... and again ... amazing!
Easily one of the best fan vids ever made, but every time I watch it I'm convinced I'm going to die in seven days.
Ou comment sublimer le plaisir d'écouter de la bonne musique. génial simplement
My favorite Cure song ever! Thank you!
Never get tired of these gents !
yeah the fact that this vid fits the song so well with imagery much newer than the music shows how influential the band was and how well the music ages--and the good job whoever put the video together did

Real masterpiece
Jouissance auditive ! 👍
BEAUTIFUL
I really like this track with this video, so strange and mysterious!
Not a big goth fan, but I love and respect the cure.
Brilliant video for a brilliant song!!! :) :) :)
I subscribed because you were on 6,999 and because this is my favorite album and you created an insanely great video for this song.
this my personal Top 10 BEST EVER SONG
Always has a sound that harks back to the Pornography era, just without the distinctive distortion. Bloody shame this never gets a wider audience
Blimey its been 3 years since I noticed your heart stamp on my last post Clan of Paranor. Upgraded my Harley Davidson since then. The video and song still hits the spot. Classic. Prends soin x☺
Fave Cure song
love your videos Belorix my dear friend.... xo
Ennesimo capolavorooooo❤❤❤
One of the best Cure songs of all time, from their best album. -- and it was written by Simon, not Robert!
CW Laugesen where did you read it was written by Simon ? Because I haven’t see any credits on the album nor elsewhere
I didn't know that. Are you sure?
I love it!
Me encanta ❤
Yes everything is backwards. Love that backwards drumbeat
this is a good vid, one of my fave cure songs. But nothing beats 'plainsong' for me.

Awesome visual, the song has a jangly, processive feel to it.
And the 7th brings return.
You are me cure :)

how can music make you want to die and be glad to be alive? like this....
id like to actually see a retro 80s goth scene revival..
Hi 2all u US Goths listening 2 UK music !!
Shame that Robert smith has declared several times that he and the cure were everything but goths... He actually said most of my songs are pop.. And he mentioned another artist I think was(patty smiths) close to that kind of music for people who sleep in coffins.....

Robert Smith forever ...

?
Are there any accordions in this?
scaress a lot
I think this song was composed by Porl Thompson, but i'm not sure
damiano fonti think Siouxie & the Banshees helped w this album ... probably the best from the Cure -the tour concert was !ucking awesome
May someone help me to understand what irt says...? I mean, does it talk about a guy that commited suicide...?
Is that why it says And in her head a picture of a boy who left her lonely in the rain
