the music when he hugs her... I don't know about you but my heart aches. I can't imagine the stress of having to propose to the man you're head over heels for and then the relief that he cares for you in the same way. At least she was able to marry for love, you rarely hear of that with royalty!
Yes, Victoria described herself in her journal as "shivering with nerves" when she asked Albert to marry her, but she was "happier than I can express" when he said yes. She was lucky that she fell in love with Albert and he with her, although it was sort of an arranged marriage as King Leopold of Belgium had been pushing for them to marry since they were both children.
I like how even though she's the one officially proposing, he still gets to propose to her in his own way. She initiates it for formal reasons and he finishes it for traditional reasons of that time and era.
Victoria: Because it would make me happier than anything, too happy really, if you would agree to what I wish. Albert: And stay with you? Victoria: And stay with me. Albert: And marry you? Victoria: And marry me.
This was so sweet because as the monarch, Victoria had to propose to Albert. He couldn't propose to her directly, as a man in his time (and even now) would want to traditionally do. So, the way he worded it was as if he was asking her. It was so romantic!
What gets me is Albert's face in this scene when it suddenly dawns on him why Victoria asked him to come (and what she was about to do). His eyes get huge! 😂
@@thunderbird1921 oh absolutely! Soooo many things about the scene. The way she can’t tell him fast enough that she’s so happy he likes the garden. The way you can tell she’s holding her breath as she tries to speak. The way his eyes light up with hope when he realizes she’s trying to ask. The way they hug each other so tightly....which is probably the first time they would’ve been allowed to hug, now I’m thinking of it. And the way she laughs out of happiness and relief. The softness of that kiss. Everything about that scene is just gorgeous.

This such a rose tinted portrayal of Queen Victoria, as most of them seem to be but it doesn't stop me from adoring it and watching it over and over again. It's such a ridiculously beautiful film. I LOVED Rupert Friend as Albert. To me he's almost as good as Jonathan Firth in the 2001 version.
Victoria actually had to ask Albert to marry her because of her position as Queen. She said to one of her ladies in waiting afterwards that "Albert would never have presumed to take the liberty" but that she was so happy that he agreed, although she described herself as "shivering with nerves" as she asked him. Awwww bless . . .

It's a shame that Prince Albert never got crowd as King, he was a huge influence to the United Kingdom. He didn't only give us the culture of Christmas trees for Christmas but he brought the great expedition and his children where very gifted in sciences. His daughter started the Red Cross and actually performed as a nurse even though her mother was against it of her handling blood, she still did it.
Emilie Gault He was remarkable. He was a man of many talents. They are to numerous to mention. I was surprised. ... Did you know he invited wall paper.?
But why would Albert be crowned as king? Victoria is the one with the right to the British throne, not Albert. Besides, as far as I know, there's no such thing as "king consort" in the history of British/English monarchy. I heard that Victoria wanted to make him one, but the government/Parliament refused to introduce such title because Albert is not British by birth. So Victoria gives him the title "Prince Consort", instead.
Albert couldn’t be crowned king, nice as it would be. He isn’t in line for the English/british throne, whilst Victoria is. And as Victoria is the monarch, no one is allowed a higher rank than her, making Albert king would place him above her.
There is no such concept in England as King Consort. Spain had a similar scenario in the 1800s with Queen Isabella II . Her husband was not named King Consort either.
This movie is absolutely beautiful... A true friend and Prince indeed!... Needless to say, Queen Victoria was an astonishing woman.... Love this movie❤
I recently just watched this film, it ended quite literally an hour ago. I have to say, after many years of being a fan of period dramas, I have never seen this one, nor heard of this before. Given that I’m also such a fan of Emily Blunt. I did cry. I love it. Love from Philippines 🇵🇭
That is so sweet! :) She loved her precious Albert since she first laid eyes on him! As Queen she HAD to be the one to propose, because of her position.
What a wonderful scene! This is a rather touching moment of this outstanding production, which very closely portrays the greatest love story in recent history. The only flaw being that, according to some historians, Prince Albert did not truly realized how much he loved her until about 10 years later, during the Great London Exhibit of 1851. Her Majesty, on the other hand, was completely in love with him from the very beginning, to the point of being unable to stop thinking about her beloved until her last breath in 1901, nearly 40 years after she lost him. Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha died at the early age of 42, which plunged the Queen into a deep mourning that lasted for the rest of her life...
CoraçãoGélido Thank you so much for this priceless information. As a history buff of Portuguese descent i am shocked that i never learned anything about them.

as romantic as you'll ever get to witness this movie is sweetness itself, the miniserie victoria and albert is also very good and shows more of their life, and if you go to london be sure to visit their museum its awesome!
I didn't see this scene coming in the movie at all. I went crazy when they got married! :) it was beautiful to see how they grew even stronger after becoming husband and wife
Royalty often married within the family because they wanted to keep the bloodline "pure." So for Queen Victoria and Albert to be cousins and get married, it was pretty much the norm.
I hooked up with my third or fourth cousin but I had no clue that he was related to me at the time I had sex with him. I do not even think he knows that I am his third cousin because he used me for a one night stand to get over his ex.
The actors, scenery and costumes allow the past to come somewhat to life, especially as the actress does resemble the young Queen Victoria a lot and the other actors are quite well selected and do behave and speak in a creditable way, as nothing ruins historical movies more than using modern language and ideas in them; and so this is a lovely romantic tale about the maiden years and marriage of Queen Victoria and of course her first clashes with politics, which will last during her reign.
Riley, at the time, rich people thought "cousin marriages" were a great idea. Mendel's Genetics was still 25 years away, so nobody knew about the dangers of intermarriage. As far as they could see, if you married your cousin, you kept all the money and property in the family, you knew you would get along with your in-laws, and you had had your whole life to know and come to love your future spouse. Ironically, even Darwin married his first cousin, and they were very happy together.
I love how she laughs and then they almost kiss and then his hair flops around and then they embrace and then they properly kiss and then ermagurd this better happen to me in real life!! ^-^ x
