How to Keep Acrylic Paint Wet for Blending on Acrylic Paint Paper 🌸🙌🏻

I may be a bit obsessive when it comes to blending paint. I don't like that many lines of brush strokes in my paintings. I like all my colors to blend in harmony, especially when it comes to a nice evening sky or a slow and steady river.
So it was absolutely driving me MAD that I couldn't blend my paints before it all dried up on my acrylic paint paper.

Legit, I almost went psycho. And every technique I tried didn't work. I tried adding gesso to the paint and that was absorbed into the canvas just as quickly as if I had never added anything to the paint at all. I tried adding water but that made the paint way less opaque than I wanted and made it streaky which was ick.
So then I was like fine. I'll prime the canvas with a coat of gesso. Magically it absorbed the gesso and felt like I hadn't even primed it. Then I tried a coat of gesso, sanding it with sand paper, and then adding more gesso.
Alas, same result.
Then I tried just slathering on an ungodly amount of paint and that just left the surface feeling like a gallon of paint had been poured on it and there was no way I was going to be able to have that soft blended look.
At this point I was about to give up until I saw my bottle of gloss varnish sitting quietly in the corner of my bookshelf.
So I put a coat of gloss varnish on and two coats of paint and SHAZAM. the most epicly primed paper 🙌🏻🙌🏻
It makes total sense why Bob Ross and Bill Alexander used oil paint on canvas because it seems like it has a lovely sheen to it and they don't have to use much paint to get a soft realistic look.
But I really don't want to chunk my acrylics to start oils. Not to mention, I have a hard time emotionally letting go of my paintings so of course all my closets would be filled to the brim with canvases. Imagine how my husband would feel with all the clutter 🤣
Anyway, so this trick has allowed me to:
1. Keep using acrylics
2. Keep using this heavy weight paint paper that so happens to be cheap 😉
3. Use Bob Ross'/Bill Alexander's wet on wet technique for flawless blending.
Its a win win...win!

Love this! Bob Ross, I remember watching those. See if you can catch the special about his life. I think it was on Netflix. Very interesting but also sad because he was taken advantage of.

Ah man Bob ross Rip died way too young still an awesome painter. I live with my little nephew who’s 3 months old I might get in quick with the Bob Ross 😂mrs Rachel and bluey is a no no 😂
@@ryan72232 I know! He was only like 50ish 🥹🥹🥹 so sad. Heck yeah! Try putting on some Bob Ross and see what happens! My little dude loves Bluey so much but it definitely doesn’t put him to sleep haha
