I'm Vietnamese, and I think you did an awesome job for introducing the cuisine for a non-Vietnamese person. I admit that the pronunciation could use some work, but you have tried your best doing research and that's more than enough for me when I compare with other foodies.

As a Vietnamese, I enjoyed this video so so much. Next time, you should try Bún Chả Hà Nội (it’s hot stuff, a variation of the Bún you featured). And try the Northern Phở as well, it seems to me that the Phở you two were eating was a Southern variation, both taste fantastic but the Northern style tastes very different from its Southern counterpart.
P/s: I can confirm that in Vietnam, people use nước mắm (or fish sauce) way more than soy sauce.

My favorite video by far! Definitely needs a part 2. If you like spring rolls, try nem nướng cuốn (grilled pork spring rolls). My other favorites: bún riêu (crab, pork tomato soup), bún bò huế (spicy beef noodles), bo luc lac (vietnamese shaking beef), bánh cuốn (steamed rice rolls) and chè ba màu (3 color dessert). Cheers! 🍜

I love Herbert’s closing statements, especially the ping ping ping 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hey YB, please try Indonesian food! Rendang (claimed as #1 favorite meals in CNN travel for years), nasi uduk, etc. Indonesia has so many food varieties, so you may try the unique menus! I knew buzzfeed and Keith made a video trying indonesian food, but they try the common and comfort food, such as fried noodle, fried rice, etc. so please try other menu :)

I miss having Pho the the vietnamnese restaurant I used to go to (unfortuntely closed due to lockdown). I always get the combination (beef, chicken, tripe, pig's blood, quail eggs, tendons, beef peppercorn sausgae) and then put heaps of beanshoots and vietnamnese basil on top and lots of siracha.
Fun fact: I think the lid can also be used as a base to support your bowl so it doesn't slide

Your videos always make me so hungry! Besides Phò, I must admit that my knowledge of Vietnamese food is very limited compared to other East and South East Asian cuisines. We have a bunch of Thai restaurants in my area but I can’t think of any Vietnamese ones so I’ll have to do a Google deep dive to find a good one. My towns Asian market is pretty decent and I’m a decent cook so maybe I could attempt to make some of these dishes myself.

The eggrolls, cha gio chay, the word chay rhymes with guy. It means vegetarian. Lol
The banh xeo is made typically with a rice flour and tapioca flour blend with coconut milk. Tumeric and a bit of curry powder to give it that yellow color.. At least the ones I'm used to are. You typically wrap some of it in lettuce and then dip it into the fish sauce. And you have to pour the fish sauce over the bun dish.
So glad you're eating and introducing vietnamese cuisine dishes other than pho! Like you said, we have so much more to offer. Thank you for this video! Loved it

Just for clarification, the banh xeo is colored with tumeric but they're so delicious! As a Vietnamese American, I grew up surrounded by Viet culture thanks to the community I live in being a big Vietnamese community and I'm very grateful for that. I've actually found I can eat a lot of foods that even some Vietnamese born and raised in the motherland can't even stomach, like bun mam; a lot of elders are suprised I can eat it 😅.

For example, we have multiple Vietnamese vowels (such as 3 diff a's) due to the accent marks so it changes the pronunciation and the word completely. Vietnamese has one of the most difficult pronunciations and no direct romanization so don't beat yourself up if you can't pronounce it YB!! 💜 It's actually so hard to freakin' learn. I failed language classes lol
Maybe it's a Cali thing, but we only have pork and shrimp egg rolls with noodles, wood ear mushrooms, and carrots here lol. Never seen a veggie Vietnamese eggroll in my life 😮
