Hi YB! Thank you for this episode - extremely fun watching you both devour one of my favourite cuisines. Just wanted to point out that the Southern part of the country, being surrounded by water on one side, celebrates seafood. Also popular meats that comprise the foods in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala especially are pork and beef. And since I know how much you enjoy spicy, you must try the various spicy variations of meat dishes they have :) Hope I was able to bring some value here. Take care and so much love xx
@@YBChangOfficial south Indian Food is pretty similar to Korean, even as a South Indian when I ate Korean it did not taste much different from South Indian Foods when I research it said that both inspired each other and even shared History with each other. yes, South Indian is kinda rare to be found in the USA.
The coconut chutney goes extremely well with the spices. It tones down the heat and blends perfectly with every item you got! ( savoury ones). You should have dipped your Idli and masala dosa in that coconut chutney :p I love south Indian cuisine... one of my favs!
Just not people with sensitive stomachs, like me 🥲. My boyfriend is Indian and every time we go to his parents house, I have to be careful. Especially the spicy items. And I love spice and Indian food, when I am not sent to the toilet 😅
I get so jealous of the foods/cuisines you have available to you in LA. I took a look and found a local South Indian restaurant that I’m gonna try this weekend or next! Thanks to your video, I have an idea of what to try!
If the place has any names similar to Udupi, Mangalore, or other places on the coast of Karnataka (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karavali) You can ask for kori rotti (koh ree - roh thi) or Neerdose (near - doh say), If the owners or the chefs are from the state, which they probably are, you will get to have a delicacy that few others outside of the country do
Pronunciation guide : Ooo-tha-ppam / Oop-ma / Mah-sah-la Doh-sah/ Va-da / Id-Lee / Gee-lay-be / Sam-bar / Chut-nee Also South Indian food isn’t just vegan/vegetarian. Most of the food you tried in this video are our breakfast dishes. We have plenty of seafood and meat dishes but they’re probably easy to get outside India.
@@YBChangOfficial It is really a shame that you were not able to find any more South Indian food near you, especially considering just how varied it is, for instance, the costs have a lot of fish based food, and the hilly interior has a _tonne_ of pork and mutton based food, a part of it called Kodagu (pronounciation guide: kOh-Da-Goo) where they even make dope ass pickled pork!
Hey YB! Loved the episode! Thank you for trying South Indian food. Its really nice that you identified similarities between South Indian food and Korean food. The korean hottoek has a similar representation in South India where it's either called hollige or obbatu, depending on which part of South India you are in. The similarities don't just end there. Personally, I've come across a lot of common words and phrases used in Kannada and Tamil (just a few of the various south indian languages), and Hangul.
I must be honest, as a South Indian my brain kind of exploded when you mentioned Obbattu/Holige, those are two of in my opinion, the best sweet dishes in all of India, YB, if you see this _please_ try it out, It is going to be difficult to find because it's not something that is like super famous outside of India, but trust me a few of those delicious pancake like sweets with ghee and milk on top taste divine

South Indian food consists of rice based dishes as compared to North Indian wheat based food, we have just as much if not more meat. Also like just eat it with your hands the way it was meant to be eaten and chill lol

Glad you liked Indian cuisine. Nice video. One slight correction though, you don't eat dosa like a crepe. You tear the dosa like a naan, scoop some of the fillings inside and put it in your mouth. Use a spoon to follow it by that sambar or coconut chutney. Then eat them together. 10:11 That's a bad thing though. Jalebi needs to be warm, dipped in the sugar syrup, and also crispy. The one you are had probably went cold and hence became soggy.
Uhh that looked so delicious. I wish I could try south Indian cuisine, too. I’m not vegan but I love seeing how many great vegan and vegetarian options are out there😍 And I really enjoy the weekly food inspiration I get through your videos ❤️
I am sure that there is a nice South Indian place near wherever you live, even if you live in a stereotypically not very diverse place, us Indians are _eeeeevrywhere_ Also, if you find a good South Indian place, you might even be able to get some meaty delicacies, it's a bit unlikely since most of these places are geared towards what we (resident South Indians) would consider breakfast food, but trust me, searching for a place is worth it
Upma is made from semolina. Actually food from all states in India have a significant amount of vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as meat/fish other non vegetarian dishes. The only thing that actually differs region wise is basically the combination of spices used. There are groups of people in all states some of whom are exclusively vegetarian and some who eat everything. No one usually eats a fully meat/animal protein based diet. There are usually always accompanying vegetarian dishes in the meal. The North Indian dishes you mentioned are actually only from one state, Punjab and the Capital region of Delhi. Usually when jalebi or any Indian sweets fresh it's taste delicious but then it's not that good , like package or caned 🤢🤮 it's worst . And jalebis are usually crunchy shocked in suger syrup .

Dosa is a waste if it gets cold. It needs to be hot and crispy, fresh from the tawa.
