Carrie Nation had more to do with establishing Prohibition and the later war on drugs. Women's temperance movements advocated getting women the right to vote in order to ban liquor. Strange they gave her a thumbs up for being against what they were doing...
You can tell people don't read book anymore because they show up in the comments section stating the obvious. That's clearly why they did it and that's clearly why it was the first story included in this compilation.
Vanessa is the greatest modern actress part of which is that she never laughs. Never in any SNL sketch have I seen her laughing. Kirsten Wiig and Maya Rudolph made Bill Hader fall to his grave laughing, but she stood there, laughing inside, but dissapointed due to her fictional tremendous losses on the outside. Her professionalism is on another level.
Can we also have the spin off "History High"!! Where celebrities get baked and try to stay on topic to tell their favorite historical story!! If you don't then I'm gonna take the idea and run with it.......although i don't know any celebrities......hmmm......new life goal!!
I forgot about that -- Kansas was dry back when Carrie Nation was trashing saloons. The U.S. Supreme Court had even ruled it was AOK for Kansas to do it. Mugler v. Kansas, 123 U.S. 623 (1887) (states may ban alcohol without compensation to alcohol producers). supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/123/623/
Where do the actions between Ms Nation's crusade to stop others drinking and the later prohibition movement with possible links to the woman's sufferage moment connect? I don't necessarily see a clear connection there.
Religious extremism on the side of prohibition and an early feminist/civil rights movement happening in between. And there are many people throughout time who don’t believe in certain liberties, yet still stand for things like the rights of free speech. The dichotomy of history.
Would this be considered illegal? Technically she's smashing the bar owner's property, on the other hand the bar owners weren't supposed to have or serve liquor. Also why did the marshal arrest only her, the bar owner was the one serving illegal alcohol and his patrons were the ones drinking it. The whole bar should have been place under arrest.
I mean it's kind of tricky when something is technically illegal but everyone, including the lawmakers and police, are pretty much openly doing it. One of the bars she went after in the state capital was even named the Senate Saloon. On the flip side the illegality made it hard to prosecute her. If you were running a meth lab and I broke in and smashed up all of your meth-making equipment technically I'd be on the hook for criminal trespass, destruction of property, etc., but good luck finding a prosecutor who's willing to put me on trial for destroying your illegal meth lab. It's why they police would hold her and maybe slap her with "jail fines," but of the more than 30 times she was arrested only when she crossed over into Missouri and smashed up a bar in Kansas City (where there was no statewide prohibition) did she get hit with a $500 fine - which the judge actually suspended as long as she agreed never to return to Kansas City.
The main issue is that neither the executive nor the judiciary like people taking the law into their own hands, in fact, it’s pretty much the worst you can do in their book; so if anything, expect to be punished *harder* for smashing up a meth lab than e.g. an elementary school.
Like seriously, nobody stopped her from smashing every bottle in a bar? Were all people soo drunk with no bouncers? or did she have like a serious backup. Doesnt make sense. Try to smash something in a bar today, see whats happens
"School Bus driver? More like I.....dropped out of school...t-to become the greatest criminal of the kiiiinndd" Brilliant Reenactment Vanessa.
11:32 Her gently pushing the boom mic out of shot was a nice touch

I love Vanessa, she's just awesome
Last year was bad. This one can be bad too. You just need to check out my almost funny videos. 😶
@Neha Kakkar. J&K łikikkukukukuk
There's a real irony to have the history of Carrie Nation narrated by a woman who is steadily slurring more and more of the words.
Carrie Nation had more to do with establishing Prohibition and the later war on drugs. Women's temperance movements advocated getting women the right to vote in order to ban liquor. Strange they gave her a thumbs up for being against what they were doing...
Just go with it
*spinning* in her grave 😂
It’s hilarious
You can tell people don't read book anymore because they show up in the comments section stating the obvious. That's clearly why they did it and that's clearly why it was the first story included in this compilation.
“I’m black I haven’t been able to vote twice”😭😭😭
I died when she said that!
I love the lady getting the creepy letter and dropping her baby in fright. That makes me laugh everytime.
Her energy is so fun and light hearted
I love how John's drink keeps its sea legs. No matter how the boat sways, the cargo remains steady,

She has with the girlfriend sketch
She laughed in the girlfriend skit where the guy was like, "watch what happens when I do this"? First time ever she broke character.
I think she broke during the puppetry class sketch when Bill Hader started making out with her puppet.
I loved her character on Brooklyn 99. She is one funny lady!!
Really gonna miss this series! Hate to see it end, but thanks for the laughs Derek

I was thinking about this the other day while smoking and watching other episodes 😂😂
Getting baked can be funny, I agree. Terrible name though. Just my opinion.

Georgia Hardstark's story of the Circleville Letters starts at 5:26!
Where do the actions between Ms Nation's crusade to stop others drinking and the later prohibition movement with possible links to the woman's sufferage moment connect? I don't necessarily see a clear connection there.
Religious extremism on the side of prohibition and an early feminist/civil rights movement happening in between.
