  • Trey Anastasio and the Colorado Symphony play "You Enjoy Myself" at Boettcher Hall in Denver, Colorado. Trey made it a point to ask the crowd before the show not to yell and hoot so everyone could enjoy the performance.

@concertconfess2012 Yes, they did ask for no photography, especially flash photos. But they also asked people to STFU; it didn't stop them. Great show, thanks for posting!

For what it's worth, the respect shown by Phish fans during Trey's outing at Carnegie Hall in November 2011 (?) was tangible and appropriate. My mother got me the tickets because she had actually sung on that stage and had an "in". We sat in the 13th row and the crowd came dressed to the nines and were pin-drop silent when appropriate and humorously raucous when appropriate. My mom thought the mix was cool and loved to hear a bit less "stodgy" crowd at the Symphony. I must inquire, can you still have fun?

I like to think that there was somebody in the crowd, completely unfamiliar with trey and his work, just thinking "HOLY ALW;EJKFEEEEEEEEE" during the those first two peaks and the aaaaaaah boy!
sounds SO good with the extra strings

why is everyone hating on the phans? you do know its trey anastatio up there right? so what if they get excited a couple times throughout the song. its not like they are throwing glow sticks on stage...

In fact it's most likely that the Orchestra didn't even rehearse with Trey until the night of the performance. My intention isn't to bash the performance. I'm just giving a little insight how the symphony scene works. However, It is too bad that the "Enlightenment" section doesn't crescendo as strongly as it should. Overall, Trey has selected and scored the song list creatively and thoughtfully as I could hope for.

I love like 90% of this version, but there are definitely moments where the timing seems off, and something just doesn't entirely jive. Still loved most of it. Although it was interesting to see the dynamic between Trey and the Conductor.

The percussionist playing the snare misread the score or was off from the director (04:47- 05:10) right before the "enlightenment" section. The same player couldn't quite get the feel/tempo of the go-go bells at the beginning of the funk the breakdown. Trey even looks at him a few times, and I highly doubt it was to gesture "Hell Yeah". This happens often when Orchestras are playing New and unusual compositions. Especially when the Composer isn't always present for rehearsals.

Regardless or your stance on talking/yelling during Phish shows, my one music professor (a concert pianist) used to say that he is often upset at the stoic, reserved environment of an orchestral concert. Back when most of this stuff came out in the 1700s, it was music for common people; the elegance was put-upon, and often audiences would sound a little like this (although this over the top). But if you are going to go to an orchestral Trey show, dress nicely, and keep your wook-ness in check, because a lot of people who are subscription holders at these orchestras are coming to hear guitar concertos, not a Phish show

Totally respect this mission, Trey, you are a favorite musician of mine. But I gotta say... Phish's version is far better. This was enjoyable though. But it also made me realize how good your band and music is.

Wow, YEM is great with the rich orchestral backing. It is just a shame they allowed all the idiots that follow Phish these days into this show to totally ruin it with the screaming and clapping along during the song.

    WE NEED LESS COWBELL!!!
For serious tho that dude has ZERO rhythm. Maybe Trey should make sure his orchestra has at least one black guy on percussion. I know I would. YOU GOTTS TO HAVE THE FEELIN! UHHHH!
