    Was waiting for every member of the orchestra to start bouncing on trampolines in unison

    What an amazing thing to behold. I've listened to this song for years and to hear it in this way is such a welcomed experience.

    This was amazing. The fact that YEM could be adapted for an orchestra like this shows how talented Phish are.

    • @johncharlesboyantonjr.
      @johncharlesboyantonjr. 7 років тому +15

      At least to my understanding, YEM was adapted (like many Phish songs) for the 4 piece band. It was originally written by Trey as an orchestral piece.

      I think this song was a Sr project in college, and you are right

    • @charlessmith6940
      @charlessmith6940 4 роки тому +4

      Matt Flickinger well the senior project was “the man who stepped into yesterday”. YEM was written much after that, after a cab ride in Italy! :-}

    • @certinho76
      @certinho76 2 роки тому +1

      Why not since it starts with an atonal fugue which is what Johanne Sebastian Bach used for his compositions and is a nod to most music aficionados that you are a composer and know what the hell you are doing and is just really cool if you know what an atonal fugue is in the first place.
      That should tip off most people that this is orchestral at the most, yet meant to be played classically in the least.
      This however, in general is a masterful expression of tension and release by Trey.

    • @matthewwalsh7813

      Huh? Music is music... Anything can be orchestrated. That's like praising a poem for being able to be written down. Words are words. Notes are notes. Phish is super talented, but this isn't the best argument imo.

      Same here. Maybe not for the same reasons. My long time best friend, & best man at my wedding pasted away of a drug overdose. We discovered Phish at the same moment together (cool story actually)...Anyway we followed them around for quite a bit..even got to work backstage at IT and Coventry. Now I'm 40 and have never been able to listen to anything Phish since his death without crying...hard. Tried to go to a show and had to leave early. Crazy what music can do when your brain ties it to something. Anyway the arrangements here, the orchestra and conductor were SPOT on. This is a special one right here. Rest In Peace Casey❤

      @@MakingRecovery
      You have my deepest condolences.
      I went to Coventry with 2 of my best friends, we had to park on the highway and walked 17 miles. Those shows were terrible. What I remember most fondly about it, (what we thought at the time) was the last PHISH adventure with my homeboys.
      Thank God PHISH came back. My friend Castillo, who went on that trip, recently went through lung cancer, he beat it, again, thank God. I flew out to LA last April where he lived with his wife and two kids and we saw PHISH at the Hollywood Bowl for 3 days. They played Life A Beyond The Dream, which was Castillo's cancer fight song and I cried my eyes out but I was able to hug my friend, he made it. It's all about friends and family.
      I'm really sorry about your friend.

    • @InService77
      @InService77 7 років тому +3

      I'm not a musician. I don't mind that they changed the tempo from a Phish arrangement, but I keep hearing repeatedley that different sections of the orchestra are not in time with each other for certain lengths of time. I'm guessing they could have used more practice.

    • @kevinr.3542
      @kevinr.3542 4 роки тому

      Actually he's right, the percussion is off for the whole Gm to C funk part. the woodblock is painfully lagging behind the beat and it makes the whole thing drag awkwardly. Trey starts out smiling but I can tell he's frustrated during that part. It's also too loud to ignore. If you didn't hear it, then you probably didn't listen to it all or you also have bad tempo.
