    I am a die hard restore to factory specs kind of guy but in this case....100% agree on the resto-mod. Great choices in drive train and small cosmetic changes tightening up the design. Two things: It's your car and our wallets are not involved. So, I say this is going to be a legendary Boss 302 when you are done!

    Super excited to see this build. I am the 4th owner of an original 70 Boss, and originality is super-important for these IF that’s what your goal is. I like the idea you are pursuing, especially the Coyote/6spd upgrade. Also better suspension and brakes will make it super-fun to drive.

    I can’t tell you how happy I am you went this direction. I believe a car tells you how it wants to be built. It would be one thing if it had the original drive line. With its current condition, I think you are spot on. It keeps the heritage and still is all “boss 302” just from the entire lineage. Great job.

    Resto mod is the way to go, when the car didn’t come with a driveline. It wouldn’t be number matching so why not resto mod it.

      @houseofno 3 роки тому +4

      Under these circumstances I am inclined to agree. Once one locates an increasingly rare original engine, already a very costly endeavor, we havent even gotten into the very costly rebuild that such an old Boss 302 engine is likely to require. The Boss 302 is not an off the shelf 302 but a very specialized V8 Ford built for only a few model years. Very poor performance value for what's certain to be a five figure rebuild. Best bet is to locate a Coyote crate engine, and source either a six speed manual or six speed automatic. Way better value than trying to restore a fifty year old drivetrain. Just my $3.02 (pun intended)

      I agree. I have a 69 z28, when I found it didn't have the original drivetrain. I'm doing a LS Twin turbo setup rack and pinion and big brakes.

      At this point the car is essentially a clone or “Tribute Car” in today’s terms. Resto mod or save your money and find a Boss 302 in better condition.

    I'm 100% concours in mindset, but this is the proper candidate for a restomod build. If you'd not rescued it, in another 10 years or so, it'd be an unsalvagable hulk. When I lose my mind is when a very nice original car gets hacked up. God speed on this one...

    Just getting introduced to you and your skills. I am a real journeyman body and paint plus custom painting tech. 40 years in the field. I have owned a 69 mach 1 428 car. With that being said I decided time and money to build for myself would have stretched me very very thin. A long time friend wanted the car and saw the vision. In my shop I have used it to fill in and have also spent weeks in it. It's a resto mod..4 link rack, coil over assy. Lots of small body mod.. 5.4 out of a 07 cobra. I totally understand what you are up against and are doing. Total respect

    You are an exceptionally talented automobile restorer and you exhibit a very high degree of insight and logic. Deciding to "resto-mod" this Mustang is a very logical and realistic undertaking. My thoughts are, based on what you had to work with from the start, it could potentially be a very deep "Rabbit hole" you might find yourself going down if you chased the "numbers matching" restoration theme, not to mention how long it can take. I know you have your ways and means of locating much of the original missing parts, but that can easily turn into a very long and frustrating "hunt" for all of the original parts.
    Saying all of that, I am now pretty convinced that your decision to "Resto-mod" this Mustang is both logical, strategic and somewhat cost based, along with being a long time desire of what you envisioned of building from a "clean slate" if you will. My thoughts on this reside right in line with yours...👍🏼🙂

    I am thrilled to see you go the restomod route. Kindigit just finished 2 builds using the Roadster Shop chassis. I think you should look into their Spec chassis as it is a bolt in application for the Mustang body. Gives you the four link coil overs and rack and pinion all in one package. Every thing lines up perfectly. Looking forward to this build.

    Had a new 69 Boss 302 which I traded in on a 72 Toyota Celia due to gas crunch and an addition on a daughter. Always loved that car. In 1982 I found a 70 Boss 302 and owned until I relocated in 2007 to Oregon. Don't know what you paid for your project but my 69 was about $4,000 and my 70 was $10,000. Sold it for $42,000 and all of a sudden my wife loved that the Grabber Orange turned in green$. Still have a special place in my heart. Look forward to your progress.

    The years of experience needed to know how all those little panels and brackets fit together, so as to figure out ahead of time, the cuts on which panels to make the one inch drop amazes me. I only wish you could swap out a '69 front clip for the '70, I think the quad lights are more suited to this car (I still like the '70 rear)
