    I went in for my interview last night and when the math test was put in front of me I sat there and struggled for like 30 minutes and she was like do u want me to show u how to do percentages and I was like yes please and then like 15 more minutes went by and she just wrote the answers for me. Love that lady, I start today

    I got the job today!! The math questions were multiplying like 2 and 3 digit numbers with decimals. Like 8.9*34. Then a section like what would the price be with a 66% discount on $10.49 or something. Last section was giving you a total and the percent of sales tax and you determine the final price with added sales tax. You need to get 8/16 correct
    Interview questions were roughly: what would you do with an angry customer? What do you hope to gain from working here? What qualities make you qualified for the job? What do you know about Hobby Lobby? EDIT: also, What would you do if you disagreed with your manager on something?

    As a senior.. youthful senior. :) Retired a couple yrs ago and wanted to get back in the work world but less mental responsibility. This video is what I was looking for... great job. I also found it ironic that so many freaked at the math issue. I thought that would only be me! Especially when so many things are available (calculators, on-line tools etc. My guess the person with an accounting background would be a rarity applying for Hobby Lobby... unless in payroll etc. So they must be use to seeing some anxiety when MATH comes out of their mouth. I am more concerned about the register. I worked in the medical field most of my yrs & Home depot was my 2nd job for 10. I NEVER did cashier nor wanted to. Math being one reason, being responsible for money exchange. + I hate just standing. I would rather walk, move, stock, build endcaps/displays etc. and be more directly involve in customer needs. I was hoping to be more physical vs standing. Much kinder to my feet as a senior. I have an interview and dont want to say I dont care to do something... Maybe find a creative way to say id "rather not cashier" in a nice way. Not sure what they will offer but from what I am seeing, there may be no way to get out of being a cashier in this early stage. Any suggestions - appreciated. Great video _ Thanks!

      I really suck at math, BUT this was adding, subtracting, multiplying, division, and percent.
      Example the price is $13.49. Add 6% sales tax, what is the total? $94.49.
      Things like that are the hardest question, so it isn't too bad. No algebra! Review decimal laws - where they are placed. You'll be fine!

    • @t75kab11

      Usually, they strive to get out at 8:30 or at least by 9. It depends on the time of year and the closing manager. From November thru December the store closes at 9, so you'll usually get out by 10. During inventory in January, it's possible to have a day or two where you don't get out until 12-2 am. :)

A lot of the summer jobs where I live get taken right when school gets out (late May for us) and since I don’t turn sixteen until very early June, would they still take my application/hire me if I’m fifteen about to turn sixteen? Sorry if that is confusing.

      Maddy Mcminn The minimum age is 16 so I’m not sure. They might wait until your 16 to call you for an interview because I don’t think they can legally put you into the system if you aren’t 16 yet. That being said, call the store and talk to a manager. They know all the ins and outs so they might be able to figure something out for you. I hope that helps!

    Is it anything like working at a restaurant? I trained and worked in one for about two months and it was way too rushed and high pressure for me. I start orientation for cashiering at hobby lobby tomorrow and I’m afraid my nerves will get the best of me but I really need this job to save for college. I’m mostly confused about how there’s no scanners, and what do you do if there’s a sale on the item?

    • @KingdomOfRachel
      @KingdomOfRachel  5 років тому

      I've never worked at a restaurant, so I'm not entirely sure if it's anything like it. As a cashier, it's your responsibility to learn the ad and remember what is on sale and what isn't. I would suggest getting the Hobby Lobby app or going to the website and study the ad to learn the sales. It's a little bit scary at first, but it's super easy when you get the hang of it! The only time my Hobby Lobby was ever really rushed or high pressure was during Friday night and all day Saturday. Other times, it could be incredibly slow and even boring. It depends on where you live, but that's how it was for me. I really hope everything goes well at your orientation. You got this!

    Hi Rachel! I was wondering if you have heard of anyone working for Hobby Lobby who has transferred stores. This summer I am moving to a city two hours away for college. I have not yet applied to Hobby Lobby, but I was wondering if I were to get a job there before I move, if it would be possible for me to transfer to the location in the city I will be moving to.
    I understand if you don’t have an answer because it is a very random question! I was planning on calling Hobby Lobby to talk about this with them before I apply, but I am not sure if I should call the location in my home town or the location in the town I will be moving to.
    Thanks for putting out this helpful video!

      We have 3 people that are transfers, but all of them came from a store that got shut down. I know that transferring is a definite possibility, but it solely depends on both store's availability. I would definitely talk to the original store that you'd be transferring from and see what they tell you! Sorry I don't have more info on that.

      Whenever you type in a price and hit the category that it goes in, you then go to a different button that is called Discounts. Under that, you can add whatever the discount is and it will automatically calculate it for you!

If they say yes, then you can ask them for the information you need. If they prefer not to give their home address, they can use the school or just phone number.

      @KingdomOfRachel  4 роки тому +3

      Alisha Murdock I only worked in fabric a handful of times. It was one of my favorite things to do because it was fun! Like the cashiers, people in fabric need to study the weekly ad to know which fabrics are on sale. Then when you cut fabric, you need to hand write the amount, the cost before the 30% off, and then the cost after the 30% off. It requires more math than anything else in the store, but it’s easy math and you have a calculator.

    So they're supposed to open up a hobby lobby near me next year. I've been eyeing it but hearing mixed things on here some say its good others say they're understaffed and makenyoubstay late. Two red flags right there. I've worked for target for 2 years electronics and my store was run by idiots plus my manager was someone I knew personally from my past which didn't help so I quit in Feb 2019 then pandemic hit killed opportunities for about 2 years got a job at staples copy and print center and kts very stressful like target but different. Targets stress was unrealistic expectations from the store with nicer customers where staples its the opposite crazy customers but also not trained properly and I they don't close at the closing time they still let customers in why I don't know since I close with someone else it sucks.
    What would you say the easiest and least stressful position? Also so you have to pass the math test? I hate jobs that make you take one. Years ago panera bread made me take 2 I was like ummm wtf is this algebra class or a job making sandwiches? Lol 😆 didn't work put needless to say.
    Sounds tough to get in which sucks because I am an artist but I can already tell they don't care about that experience from what I'm hearing from people. I've also heard their registers are out of date and old thus making it harder for cashiers? At least they call for backup. Target did that too at times but staples doesn't at least mine sadly. They don't believe in crosstraining...
    The math test sounds intimidating because like you I hated math and struggled with it in school past basic math. I'm just looking for a job thats as least streasful as possible after target and biding my time with my current one which is also stressful. Something I go there I do my best and go home no quotas to meet, not being rushed, good management. I just have had bad luck with my last few retail jobs working in stressful areas of these jobs.
    Thanks for the video. Now I'm reconsidering once they open next year lol 😆 I'm fine with just part time I just need something not too stressful and flexible with my hours, days like I don't drive and my busses suck the later it gets so I'll have to be blunt with my availability being middle of the day like 12 to 7 especially for a part time position. Any info you have regarding my concerns would be greatly appreciated thanks for the video. 🙂

    • @stephy42087

      @@shelbyblain3006 you have to convert the percentage into decimal. So for example if I want to add 8 1/2% sales tax to $5 how much would that be? First you would need to convert 8 1/2 into decimal. This is where it becomes .085 I got 8.5 and then moved it twice because that's the rule. Next you would multiply .085 with $5 which then told give you .425 so then you just add your into all dollars with your answer then you should get the answer. Ex: 5 + .425 = 5.425 (idk if they round, I did that on mine but I got it wrong). And if I check my answer: 5 + 8 1/2% = 5.425

    • @stephy42087
