    No you don't need to have any crafty skills. Its helpful because customers ask questions about how to do something or facts about using a product... but in Home accents, candles or cards and party etc you just order and stock the product.

    l was hired during a store opening and we wore jeans. Most interviews just wear business casual, nothing revealing. Stockman and framing are the exceptions to being hired as cashiers. They can advance by making backroom manager, asking to train in framing department, or work in seasonal department. They can also ask to train as cashier. Cashiers have a better chance of getting promoted as a department manager. Show up for your shifts, be accurate in your sales and money counting, volunteer to train in other departments or work truck loads with the department you want to work in. Also once you make your way up as a department manager there is lots of opportunity for becoming Assistant manager, then to Co-manager. Be honest, kind and loyal to the company and you will go far! Also, if your interested in relocating to Oklahoma positions as "buyer" do come open from time to time. They make $70,000-$$90,000 yr. I applied but decided not to move and withdrew my application.

      Any day is ok to apply. Each store has applications on a sign up by the registers where the weekly sales flyers are. Fill it out and turn it in to any cashier of manager. They will call you when they have an opening or time to interview.

    About a month ago Hobby Lobby had a big We are Hiring sign at the front of their store in Liverpool, New York. They listed the 2 wage types and all the benefits you get with the job. Nice big store there. Hoping that they will open one in Watertown, New York. I’m not a US citizen, I’m Canadian. A lot of Canadians shop in Watertown , .New York. I like Hobby Lobby and think it’s better than Micheals and Joanne’s for the variety.

I just want to stock or work the register, but am I expected to have some kind of crafty knowledge? I imagine Hobby Lobby and Michaels are the same

I wound up helping the department lead they had there from another store that was a little behind with some of her part. I told her about my experience with it and my desire for that position and asked her about it.

    Thanks Vickie! You said everything we (at a HL opened in Oregon in 2015) have felt as well!! I was fortunate enough to get a dept head position (first Cards & Party, then transferred to Jewelry) but you're right, they never allow you enough time to do anything but order and throw freight :( We were constantly put in the registers and jacked around putting up seasonal items and could never improve your own dept unless a DM was coming in, then we had to clean, clean, clean! We opened the store and made a lot of good friends - assumed we would retire there - but management quickly went downhill - a lot of turnover, including our store manager and assistant manager, and the stuff we had to put up with each day drove all of us out as quickly as we could find other jobs. It's too bad because they're a fun store to shop in, but ask any of us from our store and we'd all tell you to RUN away as fast as you can - lol!

    I hope I'm not too late to this video. Thanks for all the tips! I've always wanted a job at Hobby Lobby or Michaels, but when I applied, I never got a call back. I think part of the reason was because I didn't have work history. Even when I spoke to a manager about the status of my application, they said they would look into it, but still nothing. I recently got a job, and I was thinking about working there for a while that way I have a job on my work history. So should I apply again and inform a manager?

    • @vkinovak
      @vkinovak  7 років тому +2

      Yes, keep applying, go in often and ask about openings. Talk to the manager in person so that he see's a face with a name. They get stacks of applications and tey scan through them so see who is best qualified when they have a position open, going in in person is how you get noticed. Good luck!

      Only if they have a position available. This time of the year the hours should be available, ask for hours. Put up a sign in the break room that you'll pick up shifts if someone needs off. Ask to be cross trained in departments or cashier. If and when a position comes open apply. There is quite a turnover and demand for management if interested.

    Victoria Gibson. Business casual, as long as there are no holes you could get away with nice jeans with many managers as long as you wear a nice blouse. If you have tattoos make sure they are covered. They dont dare if you have them, they just dont want to see them.

    • @vkinovak

      +Mark Bravo
      Dress code depends on the manager. Some of them will make you wear the blue Hobby Lobby polo shirt. In Phoenix we did everything to avoid wearing them....they were hot. I made myself blue apron to wear over my clothes. My store had us wear khaki pants with a solid color shirt. On truck (shipment) day we were allowed to wear jeans.

    • @vkinovak
      @vkinovak  8 років тому

      +Mark Bravo if they didnt tell you anything specific then wear jeans or khakis, make sure there is no holes and a solid color shirt. T-shirt should be ok as long as its not tattered and doesnt have any print or logo on it. If they have a different policy they will let you know after you start. They usually give you time to buy them if you dont have what they want....dont be afraid to shop at Savers if they want you dont have what they ask for...they have some foot buy's.

    I'm looking for a new job due to my inability to keep a 9-5 job (possible delayed sleep phase syndrome), so two questions. Is it possible to request later hours, for example 1pm to close. Also, how many hours a week would you say most people average starting out? Thanks.

    • @vkinovak
      @vkinovak  8 років тому +1

      Absolutely it is possible to get evening shifts. Lots of people want day shifts to be home with family evenings. Just let the manager know. As far as hours, that depends on the store and manager. if your willing to gelp out in Seasional, or unpacking Merchandise in the back room etc. or let ither peopke know you are available to pick up shifts...or showing management thst your a fast, reliable worker will get you more shifts. Ice seen new people come in as cashier and rigjt away pick up shifts in other departments, bsck room then when a department manager quit, they filled the position as F/T dept. head. Also once you get in a store ask to learn how to order...when managers go on vacation they always need help ordering.

      This is a job at the warehouse in Oklahoma city. It is a 40 block size building that actually has a store inside the warehouse. The trucks are 18 wheeler trucks, and packed full! When come into the store the boxes are stacked up and fill the truck with what each store has ordered. Its all boxed except the floral department silk trees. Its going to be a hard working job, lifting and loading front to the back till its full. Everything in every store around the country comes from the distribution center and loaders will be lifting every box! I don't think they have a dress code in the distribution center either, probably jeans and t-shirt...If you find out differently LMK.

Some of them you cant cover up...but if they are on your wrist, neck etc. Try to cover them up at least until you see if your manager is cool with it. Some managers will be very strict about it and some others may just remind you from time to time they need to be covered. It is company policy not to allow any visible tattoos just like most companies.

      Christmas is a very busy season. The Seasonal department in the front of the store carries all the current or upcoming season merchandise and its constantly moving and the next holiday comes in. I believe every store hires for holiday help. Keep stopping in and asking for a manager and ask if they have any positions open yet, that you already put in your application and tell them your name...make them familiar with it. Can a part-time/seasonal cashier move to a stockman position? Or do they just help out on stocking sometimes but have to remain as a cashier?

    • @vkinovak
      @vkinovak  5 років тому +1

      You can ask to help in the backroom any time. Especially during the holidays we would all go help in the warehouse unpacking boxes putting them in crates and then they went out to the seasonal area. If your not asked, then ask your manager if they need help. That's a good way to get a permanent position is being a valuable employee.

Initially I applied for stockman on the application. during my interview today I was told the only positions available for now are seasonal cashiers but, she said we will help out stocking and truck sometimes. I was just asking because I never done cashiering before not my thing I will rather do the physical work instead. I guess I have to work my way to the position I desire. The employee discount is more than we get at Lowe's it's 10% and the 401 K is put in 6% and company will match 4.25%.

      The age depends on the manager and state law. Some states you have to be 16 but if that's not the case your state then go apply. Likely they will either put you as a stockman or as a cashier. Best of luck, let them know why you want the job maybe they will notice you are saving for a car and not a flake...that goes along way these days.

    Hey, so in order to have full time with this company should I let them know I want to be a cashier? I want to work with floral or crafts....what's the easiest position? I want to climb the ladder but can u help me on what their looking for.

    • @vkinovak
      @vkinovak  8 років тому +2

      If you get an interview and they offer you a job take it...then after your working tell management you would like to help out in floral or crafts if possible. When a store has "truck day" they need help unpacking the order/shipment for each department, see if the manager will let you help out in one of those departments. They may or may not have or need help at that time but when they do your name will come to mind. Just keep expressing an interest, as I said in the video every now and then they lose a few people and they shift people around....except floral...floral is a more of a knowledge base department and they don't get moved very often unless the floral manager leaves. Part time people can get anywhere from 6 to 30 hours, your availability and willingness to work will go far with this company and ask to help in departments. If your helping and someone leaves or gets fired your likely taking over that job. Just to warn you now...floral is one job that is over worked as a department manager. I had to unpack all the seasonal stems and bushes that would come in and put them on top caps and more times then not...I didn't have help. Most other departments don't have to do near the work the floral manager does.

    • @vkinovak
      @vkinovak  4 роки тому +1

      Unless you get in when a store opens it's most likely you will be hired as a cashier and when a department manager position comes open then ask for it. You pretty much have to work your way into departments. If you have experience in those areas ket them know so hopefully if you have competition you will be considered 1st with experience.

    • @vkinovak
      @vkinovak  4 роки тому +1

      @Emily Jeffordshave you asked for hours in other departments? Tell your coworkers you are looking for hours and maybe give them your phone number. I would think over the holidays they would need more help.
