i think removing the idea of anti aging is genius. Truly if we all just focused on have healthy skin and doing the most healthy things for our skin, i think it wouldn't have so much implict self-hatred in it
I’m old, and I’ve deliberately not done any of the things I thought I might, like lifting my eyelids. My eyes are still my best feature, other than my complexion, (even with some wrinkles) and I still get compliments. You can’t completely prevent looking older, and there comes a point with people who use artificial means, like Botox and fillers, where they look silly. Bodies age, too, and a lifted face looks incongruous. Drink water, eat healthfully, use sunscreen, exercise some, and enjoy wherever you are in life.
I'm coming to terms with the fact (although I'm still 32) wrinkles and stuff aren't a problem per se because what I should focus instead is in looking the best way possible at any age by taking care of yourself in and out. I still look younger than my age (a 3rd-year uni student asked me the other day what degree I was studying!!) and I have to admit that I was blessed with good skin genetics, but I know it might not be like this forever. I see other women and men who are stunning even if they look roughly their age and have wrinkles, but most of them you can notice have taken care of their bodies and have a youthful and joyful attitude. A cousin of mine has just turned 50 and she's got the normal wrinkles in her face and some sagging but she's absolutely gorgeous still, turning heads and you can't really notice the age difference when being with her because of the way she thinks, behaves and dresses. In the past, when I was very unhappy, sad, overtired and depressed I looked older and not too well overall. This is not to blame someone who can't help going through it, but just something I've noticed and that is very true.
@Yo S. I'm 31 and going through some hard feelings about aging but moving more towards acceptance now, I think alot of our hatred of aging comes from society/social media
It is. As someone who is in recovery, I lost a lot of friends at a young age. Aging is definitely a privilege and I wish more people could see it that way
That makes me even happier than ever that I never was someone who was into makeup much. Not that it's a bad thing, but I never wanted to waste my own time to make myself younger. Because first of all, I have kinda good genes, so I'm mistakenly held for being in my twenties and that all without makeup or crazy skin care. And I smoke or drink sometimes. But I don't have the focus on my wrinkles or anything and I guess bothering less, makes you glow somehow, too. 😅
This reminded me how when I was a teen and in my early twenties I literally tried not to SMILE to avoid wrinkles!!! I’ve since embraced smiling and will welcome any skin consequences. Older women are beautiful and amazing, and smile lines are the badge of a life well lived
@@thedailywisdom1851 What is and isn't old is always very relative. I remember being in my early teens thinking someone who's above 18 is old. But that changed over the years. Now in my mid twenties I no longer think that's old... nor do I think being in your 30s is old. I'm sure as I'll get older what I consider and don't consider older will change. :)
@@thedailywisdom1851 I don’t think 30 is old! But many young girls are afraid of turning 30. “Older women” is a subjective phrase and it isn’t entirely defined I suppose.
Same here. It was a line in the Spice World movie by Victoria Beckham- I don’t remember exactly what it was- but that’s when I learned smiling had consequences. At, like, 11…oof.
For all my people who' s following a beyond strict healthy lifestyle and doing their skincare religiously without improving or even worsening: *YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG. SOME TYPES OF ACNE DON' T REACT TO NUTRITION OR GOOD HABITS. IT' S NOT YOUR FAULT BUT GENETICS* A good pro derm will help you. Good luck 🧛🏻♀️🖤
It’s also worth it to get your blood work checked. I did and I found out the root cause of my acne is my elevated testosterone levels. It feels good to know it’s genetic and understand the root cause. Now I know how to treat it in a way that’s not damaging to my body chemistry / hormones
Agree. Hormones control everything. I had acne for the first time in my life earlier this year when my daughter was hospitalized. The horror and stress of seeing her suffer broke me mentally and physically. Once she was fine, it still took months of lots of sleep and daily walks in nature to calm myself down which cleared the acne. About a month ago I saw a derm about the scars and they did a chemical peel + a session of micro needling. Now it is as if nothing ever happened.
Few truer things have been said. I'm 27 and have had painful cystic acne, perfect skin soon after, only to have acne again...I tell you, groundhogs day. I have been the healthiest person I know, not to mention the most disciplined with my skincare, and it hurts to see the breakouts and my skin not responding. Makes me feel like I'm not feminine enough, and unworthy. But at the end of the day this does not define me. My skin and my acne is not the measure of my worth, and shouldn't be for anyone else. We must shift our focus to what truly matters in our everyday life, and our beauty alas, will be forgotten. It certainly won't have had a greater impact to the world. Humans are capable of so much more, why hinder ourselves!
Thanks to your video: - I ordered a silk pillowcase (during the video), - I'll reapply the sunscreen throughout the day, - I'll include my neck and hands in my self-care, - I'll refresh with my rose water mist more often.
I’ve been doing everything you said , 100+ spf sunscreen everyday ,face and neck massage , eating healthy, wearing less makeup , doble cleanse , sleeping on my back 80% of the time except sleeping early everyday.. lol .. since my 20’s . at 33 I started using Retin A and vitamin C that was a life changer! My skin looks better than my 20’s now at 38
@@Theprincessinyellow yes try it , I heard about it when I was in my early 20’s but I was so afraid of the side effects , because my skin is so sensitive, I regret it .. but it does takes time to adjust your skin , but I started slowly with the lowest dose 0.025 twice a week , what I do now that really works for me is mix a pea size drop of moisturizer and a pea size drop of tretinoin Retin a still works the same .
@@Theprincessinyellow I started retinol in my mid 20s and now that I’m 35, I’m glad I did. I still am getting older but feel like my skin’s condition is the best it could be
1. Gentle wash evening (lactic acid) or exfoliating with handglove 2. Applying low concentration tretinoin or retinol 3. Morning water wash and sunscreen
Something tells me this video is going to feel like my mum telling me to clean my room. I know I definitely should, but I don't want to, because effort.
i'm turning 25 today and this video was in my recommendations, i'm glad youtube is preparing for my 30s lol 😂 my biggest issue has always been the consistent sleep schedule, and i also noticed that my skin gets a lot clearer when i consume less sugar
I haven’t made a video in this format in a while … if you guys miss the habits series please let me know! I’ve a few ideas of ‘forming in my 30s’ episodes but not sure if they’d be as interesting as the ‘formed in my 20s’ ones! 🙈💚
i’m sure it would be interesting! these videos are calming and lovely and inspiring to do some self care of any form. always reminds me that i can do little things for myself that will have a big effect. 💚
Will you continue with Pixi glow ( is it safe for sensitive, acne prone) or Lactic acid good genes after the birth of your baby girl? Instead of harsher retinoids? Imagine if you were sensitive to glycolic, salicylic, retinoids/tretinion what product would you love to use for gentle anti aging?
Do you prefer Cerave cleansing oil to balms for acne prone skin? Could you please share your favourite blush , highlighter, brow pencil , tinted balm you wear daily? Which foundation you prefer as your base , what do you use to prep your complexion? Is Juno super food oil safe for acne prone and lovely alternatives for those who can't tolerate harsh ingredients like retinoids/tretinion/vitc/salicylic/glycolic ? I have similar skin type like yours, except more sensitive than yours , wish for beautiful anti aging serum any suggestions?💕
Someone told me many years ago (I was still very young) that the neck and hands can reveal your true age no matter what you’re doing to your face. That statement stayed with me and I think of it every time I’m doing my skincare routine. It was the reminder I never knew I needed.
@Trinity M Makes sense tbh! I guess the same goes for many with extreme redness, discoloration and hyperpigmentation, to even it out just a little. Agreed, balance is key :)
I have scars from me pre-teens so until that's lasered I would respectfully disagree. With a green primer my rosacea face looks normal too. Wore a full base make-up with it and my mum said "aw, you're so pretty" and it kinda crushes you realising if you were more normal you could look like that every day.
I bought myself a silk pillowcase this year for my 28th birthday and I already love it so much!! Happy to see it included here. I'm still very very new in my skincare journey but happy to be starting now.
Hi Melanie, I'm 23 and have been watching your videos and taking your advice for years. I'm so grateful to have someone so knowledgeable and experienced in the things I care about to look up to! Thank you ☺
You remind me of me when I was your age thinking about fine lines that were barely there, when I actually looked much younger than I was. You look amazing and this is good advice.
I'm 54. I don't use soap on my face, but do use gentle cleansers. I rinse off with warm water and while my skin is still damp, I use a couple of drops of jojoba oil messaged in. I use a silk pillow case as I have naturally curly hair and sensitive skin...hats in summer. Lots of water with fresh lemon juice and lots of good fats/rainbow foods in my diet...love crinkles and wrinkles, they're your treasures and stories 💚💚💚🍃🍂🍁😍
skin cycling has been transformative for me, along with switching from retinol to retin-a. I've also been doing microneedling consistently for nearly a decade and that is also a game changer. along with red light masks & micro current! it really is a full time job maintaining good skin!
Ive turned 30 and im not foing for anti aging, im not ashamed to age. I look older than i did and thats fine. My biggest tips is sunscreen, change your pillow cases even if you dont change your sheets, you dont need soap on your face (there are cleansers with no soap) and its okay if you go through periods where you dont do a whole routine. A quick wash, moisturizer, and sunscreen is really all you need.
I'm probably always going to have some hormonal acne, i have PCOS and i learned to care more about the health of my skin, feeling comfortable and not dry, protecting from the sun as well as other weather (winter wind is horrible), and that's really all i need. Most skin care honestly feels good but it won't really undo aging. Time goes forward and doesn't go back. Sleep and drink water honestly helps with acne, wrinkles, dryness, dullness.
Oh my god, you're STUNNING. Cannot cope. Thank you for all the tips - I am 30 so will now start topping up my spf and will the facial massage and to sleep earlier. Already got my silk pillow case, spf 50 daily and have focused more on keeping my skin really moisturised over using a crazy amount of actives - best not to stress the skin out and cause damage in my opinion. I have started using medik8's level 0 retinal and that is investment skincare item to avoid filler etc but will never say never about botox.
I turned 31 recently and have always been ‘against’ cosmetic procedures such as Botox, fillers etc. However, I had a poor lifestyle in my teens/early twenties, my weight fluctuated a lot and I ended up losing a bit of volume in my face, resulting in visible smile lines, (the one side is worse than the other). Creeping into my late twenties, every time I looked in the mirror, the only thing I would focus on was these smile lines, I felt like they made me look older than I was, so last year I decided to get a bit of filler… It was one of the best things I’ve done to boost my confidence, I instantly felt ‘prettier’ which sounds ridiculous I know. There’s nothing wrong with getting little ‘tweaks’ done if you are insecure about something and it gets you down every time you look at yourself. I’m getting a top up in Jan.😚👍🏻
THIS! I think what matters most is that you feel good about yourself and if a bit of filler helps you to love the skin you are in there's NO harm in it! It just terrifies ME, in the same way I'd have been very very nervous getting a hair transplant (which my husband did!) ... best thing he ever did in terms of taking charge of his own confidence, I have no issue whatsoever with people doing what works for them
@melaniemurphyofficial That's one thing that annoys me about some influencers. You can just tell they've had fillers, but don't admit to it and claim they are all natural. It doesn't set a very good example. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it and I feel like a lot of people feel shameful about it because a lot of celebrities don't admit to it.
This Melanie girl made me laugh so hard! Not only is the information fantastic, she is so hilariously loveable! Thank you so much for sharing this, dear!
The idea of a world with just artistic make up like colours and glitters and bright pigment etc. And just skincare without the need to "airbrush" or completely cover our skin with foundation is a dream. I feel like I look either the same or worse with a full face of makeup on and i just got sick of the work to get it all off and how bad my skin felt after. I've been just investing in skincare since my late 20's and been using acids the past year or so. The ordinary is amazing for affordable and high quality products.
Just stumbled upon your video and really loved it. Simple and real. I too nearly never wear a full face of makeup anymore. In my mid 40's. My skincare has taken its place and so happy I made that decision many years ago. I feel better in my skin now that I have what works for me. Thanks for this kind of message
This video was recommended to me by UA-cam and I am grateful. You are lovely! I feel validated as someone who is in her 30s and was already doing most of the things you mentioned you discussed in your first video, and I'm grateful for the extra tips I picked up in this one. Rose water mist here I come!
I have seb derm( it is 90 percent of the time hormonal too for females)on my face, and on my body and I struggle so much with poor self esteem and low confidence. Plus it is Stressful, because the constant itching, pain, bleeding and burning is real hell!. This video felt so comforting, inspiring me to accept my skin.
I've been trying to sleep on my back because I've heard it reduces eye bags. I heard this from another UA-camr, I think she's a dermatologist. I've noticed it has helped with that. On the topic of acne scars, I used an 8% AHA face cream in my 20s. I saw a real difference after using it. It's too bad I can't find it anymore because it has been discontinued. It was also good for fine lines. I'm in my 30s too. :D Side note: Another benefit for sleeping on your back is that you'll prevent fine lines from forming when you're sleeping. I used to sleep on my left side and because of it, there are more fine lines on my left under eye than my right. 🙃
Awesome video, Melanie. Love your content 🧡 A tip I would add is - exercise! Whenever you can, whatever feels good, but I think after that sweaty time working out my skin looks at its best! Love from Spain xx
I was suggested to use toner and it would give me burning sensation and I switched to rose water to achieve similar effect to that of a toner without the burn only to realize 2 weeks into it that my extremely oily poorly hydrated face loved it so much. 3 years and I have been using it before my moisturizer while getting ready for office, I just love how fresh my whole body feels after a couple of sprays on my face. So yes to rose water!
thank you thank you thank you! thank you for going against the grain by not promoting over consumerism and encouraging your subscribers to buy more and more products as the solution to our skincare woes!
I think it’s important to look at her skin at 4:10 because it shows texture. Her skin is BEAUTIFUL but seeing the close up of the texture really made me feel better. I’m so used to filters and blurred skin I don’t know what’s real anymore and it was refreshing to see some real skin texture
I'm 34 and my skin looks better than it ever did as a teen or in my 20s. I use less things, and I love myself more. I stopped picking at it and hating it so much and changing products all the time. I don't use botox, just a natural oil, a warm rag, moisturizer and a tinted spf if I wear something out. I use Japanese face tape at night on my forehead and I guasha to help with lymphatic drainage. I'm happy with it and I wish I would have learned that less is more a long time ago.
Thank you so much Melanie. You always help when I need it. I'm slowly learning how to embrace movement over intense exercise. Also, using the same k-beauty and j-beauty brand consistently everyday have just helped me so much. You don't need much. Just consistency people.
I'm a pilates and yoga instructor and I can attest to diet (low sugar low lactose) and water (no alcohol) comprises of 80% of what your skin looks like into your 30s. It's harder to develop the habit of working out as your older but it's doable! Start soon
@@InimeKai I am nearly finished with my bachelor in Nutrition and Health and I agree with you, that lactose is not linked to bad skin. Certain people, largely from specific population groups, do not tolerate dairy well so *for some* it can have a negative impact on things like the skin, but it’s not a general thing. Really bothers me when people make this blanket statement 🥲 (and all dairy is also not created equally)
@@soccergirldiva it's a really bad trend on the internet to recommend really restrictive diets to random people like it's no big deal. It's one thing to tell people to reduce junk food and eat healthier, it's another thing to tell people they should just completely stop eating entire food groups when you're not even their doctor (why should every random person want to go dairy or gluten free when they may tolerate both perfectly well...)
I absolutely (still) love your channel so so SOOO much! 🥰 You are one of my favourite people on this platform. So genuine, so humble and nice. ❤ Great tips! I need to be better with my sleeping habits. I tend to stay up late way too much, and I don’t have any kids but I still think sleep is super important. I get so irritated by literally anything and everything when I’m sleep deprived 😩
@@Imtrying_girl It could just be a matter of finding a better-quality satin! I’ve had the same two satin (100% polyester) pillowcases for about twenty years (they’ve been with me since childhood lol), washed in hot, washed in cold, thrown in the dryer, etc. and they look like new somehow. I’ve noticed mine seem to feel a bit sturdier/thicker than some of the super “flowy” ones I’ve seen in stores, so could be a tighter weave? Not sure how that stuff works but… they are out there!! Haha :)
Biologically speaking we age as soon we are born, there was study which shows we start ageing even before we're born. Around 25 ageing takes place at cellular level, we humans are trying to find "Fountain of Youth" since the dawn of age. We shouldn't shy away from the inevitable(ageing) rather accept it and do what's necessary to age gracefully. That's my take on ageing.
Would love to see a video of some of your makeup faves, as your look here was beautiful and lowkey - so much makeup now has TONS of pigment and doesn’t mix well with a natural face - I’m looking for brands that can get me that “me but better” look
Good lord thank you for this! I’m 25 and I started wearing sunscreen religiously only about two years ago. I would purposefully get a bit burnt every summer for the tan and I’ve found some fine lines from the exposure recently which depressed me a bit lol.
I haven’t watched past the spf part yet but I wanted to add (in case you don’t) that wearing sun protectors such as hats is also really helpful when spending extended periods in the sun. Choose shady spots to hang out. Large brim hats when out walking. Long sleeve airy cotton loose shirts.
I bought silk pillowcases years ago because I have long hair, but it never occurred to me they'd be good for my face, too. I was rough on my skin until I was about 35, and I've spent the years since undoing the damage as best I can. People keep assuming I'm younger than I am, so I must be doing something right, lol. I use a combination of a retinol cream at night and the German formula Nivea Creme in the morning -- Nivea is an 'oldie but goldie' I'd swear by, but the German version, not the American formula. My grandma used it all her life and looked younger than her years right up until the day she died (she probably would have looked even younger had she not been a chain-smoker, like so many of her generation).
glad to hear that you see changes i feel less hopless. I was rough too. In last two years - Lot of smoking, extreme stress (my father died from cancer, my mom got cancer, divorced and court with my ex husband) and bad finances. And barely any face cream. I look so tired and old. When i look at my photos 2-3 years ago.. difference is huge. Hope i can make some changes.
@@zz-ic6vy Don't let yourself get discouraged. It took me about six months to start seeing real results, but I've taken years off my face since then. If you use an eye cream, I recommend something with caffeine in it; it made a world of difference for the eye bags I'd been getting at an alarming rate.
@@FunSizeSpamberguesa thank you so much! did you use face wash both in the morning and evening? I just boughy Verso serum, Estee lauder face cream. Think i will get Nivea as night cream.
Looking younger has less to do with the skin and more with facial ageing and overall facial features. You can look way above your age with greatest skin ever. So don’t worry!
@@zz-ic6vy I do, yes. I was using plain old Noxema as a face wash, but I switched over to Roc retinol wash (it's pretty inexpensive on Amazon) every other day. I don't use it every day yet because it was drying my skin out, but I've read that's pretty typical with retinol at first. The cream didn't do that, but I also use less of it.
On the point of side sleeping - pay attention if you tend to sleep on one side repeatedly. I have so many more eye wrinkles on the left compare to the right side of my face. This is definitely one thing I wish I knew10 years ago...
I cannot afford botox. I'd never get filler. I use good skincare and everything in part 1 of your video I do regularly and it has done wonders for keeping my skin youthful. I do have forehead wrinkles, 11s, and crows feet but at 35 I think I'm aging gracefully.
I am so thankful for Naturium skincare line. My husband and I use it both and it’s revolutionized our skin! Super curious to try the Vichy solar water because I always get overwhelmed reapplying which is why I don’t wear it. I also realized that I need to put product behind my ears and on my scalp so my whole head it hydrated and loved up. It’s helped with dandruff. I’ve really taken a step back on my skin care routine because we have kittens that loooooove to lick my face and I don’t want that vet bill 😅 Thank you for posting this Melanie. And spot on about the rose water tip! It’s truly a great and accessible skincare option!!
I agree with u on every single thing!!! Skin care is a trend that’s literally getting out of control . All you see is perfect girls with clear glowy skin online.
A lot of it is false/filtering OR good lighting and a lot of makeup! All we should worry about is doing what we can to care for our skin. If we're doing that we really can do no more. We absolutely do not need to spend a fortune or compare ourselves to these false images xxx
1m in and already obsessed - keeping lactose low, yes ma'am! I found out I was lactose intolerant because of the toll it was taking on my skin (plus the bad stomachaches!). Anyway, new subscriber for sure 💕
It should be called pro-aging not anti-aging. Ageing is inevitable for us all, so embrace the inevitable. Time is a beautiful thing that we are given. Pro-aging does not mean embracing wrinkles and crows feet, it means having the tools you need to look your very best at any age. And if you do have wrinkles, remember, you have earnt them in a life well spent.
i'm also trying to phase out base makeup cause it doesnt look good on my skin anymore up close and it drives me crazy. but i still love makeup so much and the ritual and artistry of putting it on so i'm trying to find a balance. and it just looks so good from afar too... im still trying to come to terms with it and being a makeup free person after being a makeup lover since i was a little kid. i used to love eyeshadow looks but it doesnt look good on me without any base makeup
What I totally miss in all skin care video’s, but what makes so much sense to me: face exercises. Your face is a collection of muscles. While hydration etc. Is important, but exercise keeps you lifted and perked, so why not the face? No cream can fix droopy face and neck that did nothing all life…
Your skin looks amazing Melanie it is very clear and glowy ☺️ I’m 26 and since the beginning of this year I started to include my neck in my skincare routine. And it’s also very important to apply SPF to our hands I don’t really do this tho 😬 I take my make up off as soon as I get home from work and college it’s not that I don’t like it being on I just like to take it off and have a clear face so I can apply my serums and moisturiser etc 😁☺️ I’m lucky I never suffered with acne and I have good skin I don’t get many breakouts I like having no make up days I never felt shy or embarrassed going out with no make up 🙏🏻 I know some ppl hate going out with no make up on. I am going to get a silk pillowcase now thank you Melanie for sharing your advice and tips 🙏🏻
Omg! You’re absolutely adorable! So glad I found your video. I’m 33 as well! And I’m on a journey to heal my skin and be more more intentional with my skincare. Thanks for sharing love! 😁🙏🏽
This was lovely! I’m glad you said something about taking care of your hands because that is something often not talked about. A elderly woman I used to know once told me one regret she had is not taking better care of her hands. She said a person’s hands really shows signs of aging a lot faster than you’d think and every time you apply sunscreen, you need to apply it to the back of your hands as well! I hadn’t considered that before, but she’s not wrong, so I took that advice to heart.
Silk pillow cases ( as in 100% silk) is awesome. But only the stone washed silk variety! Smooth silk is too slippery and also it can get a bit hot, while stone washed silk is more even in temperature.
How skin is literally so interesting, I’ve struggled with acne since forever and I’ve always been told I’ll grow out of it. Have tried everything nothing worked besides putting lemon on my acne scars everyday it has gone away. But for having acne forever and doing lemon my skin does look better than most ppl my age. It’s so odd sometimes how skin is.
I'm 26 and I'm planning to look like myself today up to my 80s. I also heard David Sinclair, Phd. is working to reverse aging. Within 2-5 years he said we may have a breakthrough. An anti-aging pill that reverses aging is what we need.
I also thankfully got to a point where I feel like my face looks better without foundation than with it. I'll use concealer for redness/pimples/veins but I don't need to worry about the creasing etc. I do struggle with whether to do a skin care routine shortly after I get home or not. Because obviously there are a few hours between me getting home and getting ready for bed. And if I take off all the make up and do my skin care routine after getting home, do I just redo the whole thing in a few hours before going to bed? It wouldn't feel right not to wash my face and put on all that stuff right before bed.
I feel like doing skincare once or twice a day (thoroughly!) is adequate! A lot of skincare experts recommend a very simple morning routine, mainly to remove oils etc from overnight and of course ... moisture and SPF! But in the evening unless you're doing like really intense exercise, I don't think your face will be any 'dirtier', it will have fab ingredients penetrating it instead of makeup and makeup is definitely 'less great' for the skin than skincare
I’m 32 and this month I’ll be going to the dermatologist for the first time in my life. I give up trying to fix my skin by myself, it’s always reddish, with dilated pores, looks swollen and I have both acne AND fine lines. It’s a mess, I need professional help 😅 If it doesn’t work out though, I’ll be taking notes and trying to apply everything you said on both videos! 🙏🏻
It would be brilliant to get a professional opinion on the cause of your acne! Mine was ALWAYS hormonal - stress and lactose were the biggest culprits! I try to keep both as low as I can
It sound like your acne could be caused by genetics or hormones. Make sure that your derm asks for all kind of blood tests and works hand by hand with an ob/gyn. Good luck! You are on the right way ✨🧛🏻♀️🖤
Try cetaphil oily skin cleanser. My skin has improved massively acne wise since I started using it. The only problem is they chamged the formula and I prefer the original. I also use cetaphil spf50. My skin loves it so defo give it a try if you haven't already.
Thanks everyone 💛 I went to the derm and she prescribed me a bunch of stuff (medication, several skincare products, spf…). A month has gone by and so far I’ve seen zero improvements. She also didn’t run any exams, only looked at my face… I have to go to the gyno soon so I’ll mention this. Thanks again for all the advice ☺️ Melanie sure has the best community!
My facial routine from being a teen was putting my healthy foods on my face, drinking water, exercising to the point where I sweat, facial massage, sleeping on my back, when I drink alcohol it’s a clean whiskey or scotch and I take B12 and milk thistle. Clean liver/kidneys/pancreas - clean skin :) I’m almost 40 now
I´m so glad I got to this video. I turned 29 years old this year and the age gets to me. I know we can´t reverse it, but at least we can help our skin to look and feel better. I actually have woken up to fine lines being more visible in the morning, and I just looked a lot more dry? I do use night cream but I still could see my fine lines being so deep. I have now bought silk for the pillows and hope it will improve. I have also noticed that I got more visible lines on my right side of the face but it´s because I have ALWAYS LOVED to sleep on my right side. My left side barely has anything. I hope I can help my skin out more now.
Botox can actually delay the forming of wrinkles.. I know its not for everyone, but what I would advise someone who wants to slow down the aging process, is to start with botox before those deeper lines set, thats around 25-27y of age
I love lilysilk. I have a pillowcase from then and it saved my curls. Cotton was just to harsh on them. I slowly want to get more from them 😭😍 Xour skin looks great Mel, it’s come such a long way!
Just a reminder that we do live in a world that is hyper focused on appearances particularly women's appearance. We're inundated with images of what the 'perfect' female body should look like and that kind of messaging is constant and overwhelmingly negative for our self esteem. Reframing the whole 'anti aging' culture that's fixated on appearances to how our mind and body feels and how to better take care of it can work wonders because it takes off this intense pressure that's superimposed on women's shoulders instead encourages them to accept their individual health goals and focus on feeling healthy for themselves and not strive to please society's idea of perfection.
Not wearing daily foundation is so important. My mom didnt get lip filler or botox until she was 60, and easily passes for 40 because of her skin alone. She never wore foundation or concealer daily, even as a flight attendant, just on special days :)
I recently learnt that acne is partially related to insulin resistance, which is why it's common when we're teenagers and growing. Balancing blood sugar levels has been very helpful for me 🙂 It's difficult though as stress/lack of sleep/shift work affects insulin even without any diet changes.
Yes! Also though food intolerances will do it as well!!! If you aren’t aware that you are intolerant and continue ingesting whatever it may be, it can really effect your skin. I had that problem. Once I found out I was Celiac and cut out gluten, the redness, hormonal acne, and weird clear bubble rash things I would get on my neck and chest left. My fingers and toes even used to get red and I couldn’t figure out why... once I stopped eating that though, even that stopped. It’s insane what food intolerances do to your body without you even knowing.
Ouu.. don’t wash your face in the shower… the water tends to be much hotter than it is ideal. I always wash my face after a shower, on the sink (not in the shower), and I use micellar water. That’s much more gentle on your skin face. I also slug at night. Not every night, but most nights. Great way to keep moister 👌🏼 I’m 27 and started taking care of my skin care at the age of 25 🙌🏼
I tried many things and I can say, for me: no double cleansing (OMG never again), no washing morning and evening, no silk (I've never understand the hype, my hair and face where in a disastrous state when I used silk pillow case and a silk bonnet), hydrating a lot (A LOT, I need way more hydration than I thought), consistent exercise routine, SPF.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong in good skincare regime but let’s normalize to look aged because of aging, specially for us women! I’ve rarely seen any video made by a man on anti-aging regime as if we women are the only one who should care about it. Trust me this beauty industry runs because of women. Eye creams, neck creams, collage blah blah blah! Please have a good skincare whatever you can without the pressure of looking “younger” throughout your lives and embrace every change in you by accepting you completely… thanks for reading and have a great day/night ❤
I'm 34 and my skin care and makeup is pretty much the same as urs. From silk pillowcase to spf, sleep, not wearing base makeup ect. My 3yr old will only sleep on a silk pillowcase now 🤦♀️
I was like this as well. I was surprised as i entered my early 40s, I get botox now because the creams do work, but as im getting older it seems that I need to be on top of it way more often
Hey, you've mentioned the video about fillers - it's not Botox, it's hyaluronic fillers that tend to accumulate once injected. Botox is a toxin that relaxes muscles and breaks down by the organism in a relatively short time. Also this substance is the most researched thing in cosmetology that has been proved safe, so if you want to try it - do it by all means. Fillers are entirely different thing, that's what I'm trying to say🐱
Oh I know! Fillers mainly scare me! Especially because they are marketed like ‘hyaluronic acid is already in your body, it’s sooo natural’ but the build-up over time migrating can totally warp face shape! Botox does scare me in another way, I don’t like the idea of my face not being as expressive as it currently is and I’d worry about feeling the NEED to keep getting it which would be both expensive and time consuming! Also, some people really suck at application and the result can end up awful! ❤❤
In some areas it's a little late for prevention for me, unfortunately, I have had frown lines (really noticeable ones) from age 10 or so. I am 40 now and I actually feel like I look quite a lot younger that that, apart from those lines. i will try different things, but no botox or fillers for sure. It's just not for me. Also, I am accepting myself much more than I used to.
The most important thing anyone can do is to use sunscreen every single day. There are some especially made for faces that won’t cause breakouts. Believe me; I wish I’d been so careful with the rest of my body. I don’t believe that commercial skin products do what they say they will.
@@morganew297 You should use the highest spf available for facial skin. I use Neurogena Age Shield Face in 70 spf. They used to have 100 spf, up I haven’t seen it lately. But, it is oil-free and supposedly won’t cause acne. You can get it anywhere. I even use it on cloudy and rainy days, it’s such a part of my routine.
I personally prefer to use clean beauty brands and Clinique and La Roche Posay are too harsh for my skin. I also avoid retinol because of the skin cancer element. Hydroxy acids are good, Hyaluronic serum etc. And using a silk pillowcase/not neglecting your neck/decolletage is soooo important it's true. Also thanks for the Lilysilk discount. :)
One thing I’ve learned to accept in the past couple of years is that ‘everything is chemicals’ even water is a chemical. A pear apparently has 120 times the amount of formaldehyde that certain vaccines have! In my first pregnancy I was terrified to use certain things but I’ve listened to the likes of Caroline Hirons talk a lot on this re: skincare & absolutely calmed me down for this one xxx
@@melaniemurphyofficial Fair enough, I'll take a look at what she says. And I'm sure the products you use are all fine. 🥰But there are definitely a whole bunch of chemicals that are extremely harmful to both our skin/bodies and the environment (Polyacrylamide, Octinoxate, etc. etc. even asbestos-free talc shouldn't be used in pelvic areas). Still learning up about all this though.
Please share what you use for anti aging , as I can't tolerate retinoids or vit c nothing harsh? I am in 40s with acne scars, age spot on cheeks but like a baby skin and too much dehydrated combination skin? ❤
Omg I just realised that that first skincare video was I think how I first found your channel 😆❤ Can't believe that was 3 years ago! The recap summary of it at the start of this video was very beneficial haha
i think removing the idea of anti aging is genius. Truly if we all just focused on have healthy skin and doing the most healthy things for our skin, i think it wouldn't have so much implict self-hatred in it
THIS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m old, and I’ve deliberately not done any of the things I thought I might, like lifting my eyelids.
Yes! I loved this point as well. We're lucky if we have the opportunity to age!
I once read that ageing is a privilege and it completely changed the way my view on skincare was.
Very underrated comment
It is. As someone who is in recovery, I lost a lot of friends at a young age. Aging is definitely a privilege and I wish more people could see it that way
(In recovery from drug addiction, in case that wasn’t clear)
Love that perspective 🙏🏼❤
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Omg I have seen UA-camrs talk about that (like Jefree Star 🙈) makes me sad!
Lmao, older? Excuse me? 30is old?
It’s almost always hormonal and/or stress! Yesss to seeing a dermatologist 👆🏻🙌🏻❤️
It’s also worth it to get your blood work checked. I did and I found out the root cause of my acne is my elevated testosterone levels. It feels good to know it’s genetic and understand the root cause. Now I know how to treat it in a way that’s not damaging to my body chemistry / hormones
Yes, it's hormones!!!
Thanks to your video:
- I ordered a silk pillowcase (during the video),
- I'll reapply the sunscreen throughout the day,
- I'll include my neck and hands in my self-care,
- I'll refresh with my rose water mist more often.
My skin looks better than my 20’s now at 38
😍😍 do you get retin A on prescription or do you buy a product? X
@@melaniemurphyofficial yes is a prescription I started using the lowest dose 0.025 now I use 0.05 4-5 times a week .
This convinced me lol! I’m 24 and I have heard so much about tretinoin/ retin A. I gotta try it out
@@Theprincessinyellow yes try it , I heard about it when I was in my early 20’s but I was so afraid of the side effects , because my skin is so sensitive, I regret it ..
but it does takes time to adjust your skin , but I started slowly with the lowest dose 0.025 twice a week , what I do now that really works for me is mix a pea size drop of moisturizer and a pea size drop of tretinoin Retin a still works the same .
@@Theprincessinyellow I started retinol in my mid 20s and now that I’m 35, I’m glad I did. I still am getting older but feel like my skin’s condition is the best it could be
1. Gentle wash evening (lactic acid) or exfoliating with handglove
2. Applying low concentration tretinoin or retinol
3. Morning water wash and sunscreen

I have similar skin type like yours, except more sensitive than yours , wish for beautiful anti aging serum any suggestions?💕

yup, the silk pillow case is a game changer and it also helps with your hair, less damage specially if you have curly hair ♥
Someone told me many years ago (I was still very young) that the neck and hands can reveal your true age no matter what you’re doing to your face. That statement stayed with me and I think of it every time I’m doing my skincare routine. It was the reminder I never knew I needed.
my hot take is that everyone looks their best without base makeup 😭❤
Samesies
@Trinity M Makes sense tbh! I guess the same goes for many with extreme redness, discoloration and hyperpigmentation, to even it out just a little. Agreed, balance is key :)
YES! Maybe in pictures, but in real life, I think foundation looks so bad...
I've started finding I look best with concealer/contour/blush but no foundation
Thank you ☺
Awww Celia ... love that you've been around these parts for so long! That means a lot to me! :)
I also have curly hair 😊 I’m having a hard time embracing it.
skin cycling has been transformative for me, along with switching from retinol to retin-a. I've also been doing microneedling consistently for nearly a decade and that is also a game changer. along with red light masks & micro current! it really is a full time job maintaining good skin!
I was hesitant to watch this because you looked in your early 20’s in the thumbnail but I’ve never been happier that I decided to watch your video 🥲
I have started using medik8's level 0 retinal and that is investment skincare item to avoid filler etc but will never say never about botox.
u literally look so good for 33. not like that’s old or anything but u can def pass as 23
I turned 31 recently and have always been ‘against’ cosmetic procedures such as Botox, fillers etc.
You do you! Don’t feel bad for having something done!
You're pretty
Can you plzzz tell me what filler did you take?... I am recently turned 31 and I am suffering same issue
Agree, The Ordinary are FANTASTIC, I've bought from them a few times over the past five years!
Birth control can fix it, but can cause different problems. Have no problem with seb derm, pimples, greasy skin on oc, but have different problems
Side note: Another benefit for sleeping on your back is that you'll prevent fine lines from forming when you're sleeping. I used to sleep on my left side and because of it, there are more fine lines on my left under eye than my right. 🙃
AHA serum is now quite common especially with BHA.
They discontinued everything that is good and useful 😒
Awesome video, Melanie. Love your content 🧡
A tip I would add is - exercise!
This is probably my favorite skincare video I've ever seen
Aghhhh thank you so much, Lauren! I'm so glad I made it, such wonderful feedback
Start soon
People don't need to limit lactose when they're not intolerant or negatively affected by it lol
@@InimeKai Yep … sadly very true. And for some reason it’s always dairy and gluten 🥴

Satin is also a treat cruelty-free alternative to silk for those who’d prefer it, and still so beautiful :)
I tried that and it pills and falls apart in the wash :(
@@Imtrying_girl It could just be a matter of finding a better-quality satin! Haha :)
also bamboo silk. not as luxurious but cruelty free
Also less expensive so am using satin now until i can afford good silk pillowcase
how is silk cruel??
Yaaass thank you! We need to start embracing aging and any normal human process. We tend to advocate for perfection which is sicking and unrealistic
As someone in my early twenties i’m very grateful for this video, thanks mel i’m happy you exist
Yup. Saw mine at 24.
In last two years - Lot of smoking, extreme stress (my father died from
cancer, my mom got cancer, divorced and court with
my ex husband) and bad finances.
This is definitely one thing I wish I knew10 years ago...
levying off fulfilling your skincare needs! your skin and other influencers skin are not the same
I cannot afford botox.
I’ve really taken a step back on my skin care routine because we have kittens that loooooove to lick my face and I don’t want that vet bill 😅
Thank you for posting this Melanie. And spot on about the rose water tip! It’s truly a great and accessible skincare option!!
Naturium seems like SUCH a brilliant line, Susan really does know wassup I've followed her for YEARS and so glad it's done so well!
Hi i am arpit from
It should be called pro-aging not anti-aging.
Thank you for the reminder to buy a silk pillowcase and use my facial roller more often 💙👏🏻 Your skin looks lovely, keep it up ☺️
Omg! You’re absolutely adorable! So glad I found your video. I’m 33 as well! And I’m on a journey to heal my skin and be more more intentional with my skincare. Thanks for sharing love! 😁🙏🏽
Eek! I’m always so excited when you make skincare posts! 🎉❤😊
Hi i am arpit
I will be 30 in a month .... so happy for youtube recommendations
Oh yes, I haven't worn foundation in years, I wear BB cream or CC cream (unless that is foundation as well?) or just moisturizer and some powder.
@@surlespasdondine bb and cc creams are just foundations under a different name
@@kimberly9181 I do find that they are wayyyy lighter than actual foundations. More like a moisturizing cream with a little tint.
You look so pretty, aaah dying over how lovely your skin looks! ^_^
I’m 32 and this month I’ll be going to the dermatologist for the first time in my life. I give up trying to fix my skin by myself, it’s always reddish, with dilated pores, looks swollen and I have both acne AND fine lines. It’s a mess, I need professional help 😅
If it doesn’t work out though, I’ll be taking notes and trying to apply everything you said on both videos!
My skin loves it so defo give it a try if you haven't already.
you may have a GI issue
Thanks everyone 💛 I went to the derm and she prescribed me a bunch of stuff (medication, several skincare products, spf…). A month has gone by and so far I’ve seen zero improvements. She also didn’t run any exams, only looked at my face…
I have to go to the gyno soon so I’ll mention this. Thanks again for all the advice ☺️ Melanie sure has the best community!
All these videos make me cry. Im turning 30 in three months and i been having ups and downs about it. Mini break downs.
Your skin is flawless 🌸
Botox can actually delay the forming of wrinkles.. I know its not for everyone, but what I would advise someone who wants to slow down the aging process, is to start with botox before those deeper lines set, thats around 25-27y of age
I love lilysilk. I have a pillowcase from then and it saved my curls. Cotton was just to harsh on them. I slowly want to get more from them 😭😍 Xour skin looks great Mel, it’s come such a long way!
Eeep yesss I did forget to say that, SO great for hair too! I have way less frizz! ❤️
I love you so much😭😭😭 I feel exactly like this! I want to stay looking young but I also don’t want to fall into the never aging!

watching all these videos
trying to work on getting nice skin
I love your skincare videos so much! They have such a cosy vibe, especially in your new office :)
Awww I'm glad you like the new office vibes! I LOVE IT IN HERE! xxx
I recently learnt that acne is partially related to insulin resistance, which is why it's common when we're teenagers and growing. Balancing blood sugar levels has been very helpful for me 🙂 It's difficult though as stress/lack of sleep/shift work affects insulin even without any diet changes.
Absolutely agree. When I avoid sugar and processed food, I just don't break out.
Why do you think silk caused you problems? I’ve never heard that before
You're skin is amazing, I don't think you need to worry when you say you wished you'd started sooner.🙂
Love your skin care videos 🤩 couldn’t hit the like button fast enough! Thank you ✨💚
awwww ... THANK YOU! xxx
I've been using silk pillowcases for years and it's like sleeping on the cloud. 😎
ISN'T IT!? My son keeps trying to share my pillow at night now hahahahaha it's so so funny
I should say that a natural silk eye mask made a huge difference to my skin and sleep.
Ooh thanks for the tip! Already had the pillowcase in the cart, gonna add the eye mask now❤❤❤
Hey, you've mentioned the video about fillers - it's not Botox, it's hyaluronic fillers that tend to accumulate once injected.
I can’t sleep with a silk pillowcase because it feels like I’m slipping and can’t fall asleep
When she said sheet masks are unnecessarily important for environment i immediately became a subscriber ..
Use retinol
@@rimsharims345 obviously:)
The most important thing anyone can do is to use sunscreen every single day. There are some especially made for faces that won’t cause breakouts. Believe me; I wish I’d been so careful with the rest of my body. I don’t believe that commercial skin products do what they say they will.
THIS THIS THIS
Which spf can you recommend that are good for acne and avoiding breakouts?
@@morganew297 You should use the highest spf available for facial skin. I use Neurogena Age Shield Face in 70 spf. They used to have 100 spf, up I haven’t seen it lately. But, it is oil-free and supposedly won’t cause acne. You can get it anywhere. I even use it on cloudy and rainy days, it’s such a part of my routine.
No wonder you’re glowing! Congratulations on your baby ❤
Thanks a million love the spray spf been searching for one❤ - wish silk and cash was more affordable 😢
You mentioned drinking water and avoiding alcohol right as I was pouring Kaluah into a glass for a white Russian 😅
The recap summary of it at the start of this video was very beneficial haha
thanks for being clear and concise
be sure to apply to humectant on top of toner. never apply rose water on dry skin and allow it to evaporate off the skin
