That Sally one take of her just being completely honest and open is one of the best moments in the series elevated even further by Barry continuing like nothing just happened.
That’s really the director Jay Roach, most famous for directing the Austin Powers series and Meet the Parents, and Allison Jones, the casting director for some of the greatest movies and TV shows to ever be on screen including The Office, Freaks and Geeks, Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Borat, Barbie and so many others. She has a really amazing eye for talent and gave a ton of people their first break like Aubrey Plaza, Seth Rogan, Jason Segel, among others.
I suppose you all know that several stars were discovered just because they accompanied a friend to an audition that they would up getting instead of the friend. Crazy, but true.
8:39 having those feelings, while gross and should make her look within (she won’t) are fair to feel. What’s NOT fair is telling your partner that before they go into audition. She could’ve sat on that until after the audition, but instead she puts it on Barry to make herself feel better, likely making him feel guilty for perusing it before he even goes in. If she knew she didn’t care, and if she didn’t know she should’ve known/didn’t even consider how telling him that might affect him.
SPOILER BELOW: I realized on second viewing and absolutely love that the scene where Gene breaks down the 4 scenes of Swim Instructors is a thematic breakdown of the four seasons of this show
I extremely disagree with what Sally is saying and expressing to Barry. It makes it seem like all of her help towards Barry in the past was superficial because in the end when Barry does get an audition, she downplays it, feels jealous, and essentially tells Barry that he does not deserve it. What kind of girlfriend says that to their partner? A partner that says that they are better and should do better than the other partner. Extremely unhealthy relationship and not what someone looks for in a life partner lol. Great character - just really disagree/hate her decision-making or the way she treats Barry.
After finishing the show, stuff like this is why I think that Fuches is the only person who reached that last stage of acceptance and responsibility. Barry and Sally both never got there. Also, their relationship felt superficial from the very beginning. These two never truly loved each other.
Noho Hank is of course adorable and indispensable, but one might argue that Gene is the real heart of the show. At least, Henry Winkler acts the f*** out of that role!
7:25 I love Ariana nodding while totally forgetting Sally's entire story about Sam is a fabrication. This is why false accusations work. Women operate purely on emotion.
The entire story wasn't a fabrication. The only thing Sally fabricated was how she stood up and talked back to Sam when he was abusive. Sally even acknowledges it as a lie. So Arianna still has a right to nod her head to it, as do any of us who can empathize with Sally.

I appreciate Sally’s honesty.

I wouldn't call giving Seth Rogan a first break an 'amazing eye for talent' honestly it's bordering on crime.

Norman Reedus got discovered cause he got drunk at a Hollywood party and started yelling at everyone, lol

🤣- "The Barbeque Bus"
"No, no, it's a stage name, Mr. Goulet." That is always the funniest line to me in this episode. 🤣🤣🤣
Yay

Is Aaron Ryan supposed to be a Ryan Murphy stand-in?!

I do hate that Sally turned down the show in the room - do you know how much theatre you could finance with tv lead money?
Only if the show was successful
That show would get a pilot that wouldn't even get through one test screening before getting canceled.

That's a lot of projection there buddy 😅 it's a TV show calm down

Imagine thinking slightly changing a minor detail is worse then the actual abuse
