This episode made Sally my favourite character, personally. I think she had every reason to feel upset with Barry getting such a career shortcut when she's worked harder, longer, and better at it, but she still wasn't actually mean to him and navigated her own emotions. And her turning down that show was also such a huge character moment for her, choosing her art over a cheap career opportunity. I get that y'all don't like her that much, but I think she's written exceptionally well
It's the start of like, really getting to see Sally for who she is. She'll turn down chances at fame she finds degrading but shame Barry for equally shallow chances. Later she's on the out and will turn on a dime to exploit something for roles.
> wasn't actually mean to him "I'm so much better than you" She made his success about herself. She's a toxic POS. And I'm not arguing with Sally defenders since the show already ended and we all know who was right.
@@DanteRU0312 She was much much better at acting than him though & struggled much more 2 progress in that career....Everyone else would feel d same in her position. Now whether others would be as brutally honest as Sally is another matter. P.S. I meant Sally is better at acting than Barry not d actual actors!
Likability is a pretty nebulous, vague concept. Is Walter White likable? Is Ramsey Bolton? I care FAR MORE about how *compelling* a character is. Like every other lead character on the show, Sally, in my opinion, is compelling & entertaining.
Thank you for saying this. They keep going on about if Sally is likable or not, which she kind of isn't. But like you said, she's compelling & entertaining, damn near every character in this show is a douche. Nobody is special
The fact that people have so many different opinions (and discussions) about Sally is a testament to the show's writing and to Sarah Goldberg's acting talent. A simple, one-dimensional character wouldn't get people so invested in understanding their motivations, nor would it evoke mixed feelings from the audience. Sally however can do those things
Your taste is certainly... unique I'll say I deal with this sort of people on a daily basis, so I have 0 likeability for it nor am I compelled to understand it. I feel this mundanely evil level of quality which is so common I am simply not equipped to empathize or being openminded about it.
@@SilverYPheonix well, tbf, Ramsey Bolton isn't a favorite character of mine. I was just thinking of morally AWFUL or "unlikable" folks who were interesting to watch and couldn't think of anyone else for some reason. As I type this, I remembered Homelander, a character who is DEFINITELY compelling, despite being fucking AWFUL lol. I do stand by my preference for compelling over "likable" characters. And I can understand that. Dealing with awful people irl and then seeing them on screen can certainly be something that can put someone off. BUT! The show does provide a unique opportunity to actually *delve* into this character and see all parts of her, good, bad, middling, and see how someone like this comes to be. And I don't think that there's anything about Sally that I'd call "mundanely evil". She certainly has a LOT of negative qualities, and I HAVE met people like this in my life, too, and they're awful to deal with. But evil is too big a word for her. I don't think there's anything she does which I'd call "evil". Or maybe I'm just getting stuck on semantics lol. Personally, I find someone like Fuches a lot more revolting. Because I've had some experience with that type of narcissism and controlling crap. But I can still enjoy the hell out of Root's performance. But hey, to each their own. I appreciate your response :)
@@SidPhoenix2211 You know I definitely agree with you on that, this show is craftly designed to be a walking tragedy no matter where you land your footing. They are all equally revolting to me, but at least I see a certain degree of nuance on Fuches' case because he does mellow down a bit whenever people mention Barry in a way he couldn't see. And you're right that 'evil' is a big word but there are different kinds of evil, I call Sally's kind mundane because it's the one you see everyday. I could go on further but then this will turn more of an essay than it already is. Likewise glad we had this exchange regardless ^~^
Sally being mad about Barry's audition is pretty understandable. It is fair to be frustrated about the situation. She's not justified in directing that at Barry. I dont think it makes her more unlikeable, tho.
Sally is overall a pretty normal person with normal frustrations, at least initially. People in general behave selfishly, often without realizing it. I think people who don't recognize that they have the same capacity are probably just oblivious to their own personality flaws, which is a kind of narcissism unto itself.
On the surface, human level, it’s easy to sympathize with her frustration. But you gotta zoom out and she who she is as a character. Damaged, desperate for approval. Her parents molded her that way. So that trait is definitely unlikeable. That’s beyond jealousy, it’s neurotic. It’s the embodiment of L.A. That’s why that industry is toxic. It’s full of actors who can’t help but tear each other down to get to the top. If you can’t be happy for the success of those close to you, you’re definitely a problem. A big part of this show is a meta commentary of that.
@@n1nja_x_assault864 Yeah, that’s called a red flag. I’ve got friends and family lapping me in life. I’ve never once felt anger. Maybe some jealousy, never anger.
Maybe I’m mistaking the reason why y’all down on Sally in the car scene, but can you not understand exactly why she *should* be mad? Sally has been acting for years, and whatever he level, it’s way higher than Barry. Barry just got a HUGE opportunity without showing any effort or talent, it was simply for being tall. It’s simply unfair as hell. If anyone was in Sally’s position, they’d be mad as too.
Right? She's been busting her ass for years and is the best actor in Gene's class. Some wack ass actor scoring a feature in a movie just because he's tall would piss me off. 😂 Plus Barry was tone-deaf and clueless in that scene.
If you rewatch the scene in which Cousineau takes Barry through his four scenes after watching the end of the series, you’ll realize … … he just outlined the entire series.
I recommend the anime jormungand. There are 2 seasons. I want to say that I enjoyed it from the first ep. About the little girl Cocoa, she is a war arms broker. The bullet-splashing scene is awesome in every episode. I want you to try it out. If possible, it is recommended to have subtitles because the original sound is very emotional.
Fuches doin the most
day 365 of asking yaboyroshi yo react to yozakura family. It's a spy action anime with a lot on family and a bit on romance.

Fuches is a scumbag, but damn near everyone in this show is.
He has a knack for that
Sally's breakdown is great: She finally gets to have her Lady McBeth monologue about a monster she made. She just doesn't realize it.
Wait what? I never thought about it that way
kind of surprised they didnt mention how long that sally monologue went on for, her actress is insane
Gene's face seeing Janice is absolutely heartbreaking, he plays it so well
That monologue Sally does is so impressive
Yeah but is it as impressive as "Hey Ike you shitbird, want a little piiiiiie?"
Barry's face afterwards, followed by just jumping into his line. God tier comedy.
I still hate her
“The musical traitor” 😂😂😂
Sheera & Barry are on the same wavelength right now. "put a hot one in Fuches"
4:30 isn't it the plot of the tv show "Why women kill"?
I was thinking the exact same thing. The only difference is that all live in the same time period 😂
