Deep Strike Squad essentially grants you additional troops alongside the Honor Guard at the beginning of the battle. They spawn next to your "command center" building.
First, you build them over at your own Stronghold in the Deep Strike tab. They are more expensive than normal garrisons.
Then, when you select to attack a province, you can tab over to the Deep Strike Squad tab and select how many of those squads you want present.
If you lose the battle, you lose the Deep Strike squads you assigned and then have to rebuild them. If you win, you can select those squads for further deployment.

Came to the same conclusion now of all times. Little me borrowed this game from friend when he got it(when it came out) and never figured out how that power worked(tau one too), so just assumed they were somehow bugged/didn't work.

It's *by far* the best stronghold bonus for everyone except the orks, in my opinion. ;) (For the orks it's still decent, but they don't get full benefit because it's bugged for them (which I think is due to their unique population mechanics).)

I’m a bit further ahead in the game now and never felt like I had enough requisition to use this once I finally found it at my main HQ province. THEN I accidntally ended up buying garrison units and not Deep Strike lmao. I’ll make sure to use it moving forward.

@@cpugwash7085 It's bugged for them because deep strike squads should be the same as reinforce squads. Unfortunately game engine doesn't check it when loads campaign data, just when it creates squads during mission..

Important detail to remember: with a very limited few exceptions (if any; I can't remember any exceptions off-hand), all ranged units have a blanket 30% accuracy when firing on the move. This was a change made with Dark Crusade. It makes pursuing fleeing enemies much harder. You can chase, but good luck killing anything when you have to run after them to keep shooting.

Upgrading your Listening Posts give you more Requisition besides gaining bigger and shinier gun. So, even tho your Listening Post will never be in enemy's way, extra Requisition generation will never hurt.
Also when it comes to attacking normal Eldar, prepare yourself for whole world of frustration as they really, *REALLY* love hiding their buildings with Waygate's Cloak ability and they love building multiple HQs all over the map. I'd say you should go after Space Marines, then Orks, then Tau Empire, because that helmet which allows you to see invisible units will save you from headache with Eldar.

Damn it Imperial Guard AI... When you defend your HQ, you do not put your units out in the open, you put three of them in your HQ to get the special bunker weapons from it.

Sorry for the bad news, Jay but they can totally attack the Moon Gate from the planet, so you cannot skip on fortifying it. Don't want to forget the Gate on your planet either, or Chaos or the Dark Eldar could end up destroying your supply lines by taking ot from their own gates.

I can see why Jay might think that the moon couldn't be attacked from the planet (only one side of the line has dots, whereas the lines across oceans are dotted on both sides), but by that logic the Tau Stronghold on the moon would be impossible to attack.

@@JayborinoPlays not to worry - chaos cultist and dark eldar find it amusing - tear each other apart. Once I saw, that dark eldar destroyed chaos cult, and no intention to move toward gates - caught somewhere in time.
In other playthrough cultists give dark eldar hard time, but unable to nail those elusive bastards. 7 failed tries in a row to crash dark eldar - they were too stubborn.

I usually go after planets that have the best/most useful honor guard instead of the best faction HQ abilities. As you noticed most of those are more like "nice to have" than necessary, while strong honor guard allows you to attack faster and defend on strongholds more easily.

I found myself rarely needing to re-buy honour guard, I tended to use them for early captures and expansion. When I had a few squads and could micro them back home if they were going to die. Then as I started to get a large amount of regular units I tended to relegate them to base defence so I wouldn’t have to spend much on static d.

    • @MalevolentSpirit234

That becomes especially true with the Tau Honor Guard, who just deals so much damage that paired with Heavily Fortified Positions they are capable of repelling most attacks.

So useless but vital guess work on the lore chanting of our men with a mission!
From the Lighting~! (This likely refers to the Astronomican the light which is used by all Imperial Astropaths(Navigators) which makes it possible to guess where you're going in the warp.)
To the Tempest~! (Likely means to the Eye of Terror, which is where chaos dwells.
    (So from "Heaven to hell")
"Emperor deliver us~!" (This is fairly obvious as God Emperor protect/save us.)
Thank you for joining my useless rambling!

Uh, gate maps will be tough to take and garrison (they transform into regular style of map once taken, so that's a huge relief). Planet 3 is gnarly (eldar and necron both, remember, eldar magic number 3). One more thing, necron from winter assault and ones here/dark crusade are NOT the same(stat- and movementwise).

  • @wilsonkierankitsune
    @wilsonkierankitsune Рік тому +3

Ahh soulstorm, I remember both loving and hating this game. The Space Marine and Orc bonuses are more worth it than Eldar or Necron. the Dark Eldar seems good but you have to go so far to unlock it that it's only really worth it for Dark Eldar (who start with it) and Chaos (who need to beat the Dark Eldar first anyway)
OK odd question but have you ever considered covering the Starcraft 1 Custom Campaign series "Vision of the Future"? Have you been asked this before and I'm sorry if I just touched a sore spot for you. I enjoy your content for revealing to me so many Starcraft fan campaigns that I never knew about before

IIRC, seraphim are good for early rushing in PVP (e.g. when your enemy's base is not properly set up. They can be upgraded for better accuracy, but they are actually pretty great at harassment. You can kite with them, not many infantry units can catch them; you can use the jump pack to get out of the way if things go badly; but you will still need units to dismantle enemy buildings (and in the endgame enemies will have a lot of buildings, and a bunch of forces in the start of combat). It seems that it would generally be better to get another unit (regular sororitas / celestian squad, repentias etc), because they can be more versatile; and you can get Rhinos for mobility.
Also, IMO, Dark Eldar are a good early game target, since you get free reign on whichever planet you want to attack next. Since the Dark Eldar base houses a webway gate itself, you can directly attack any other webway gate, and then rush the Eldar, for instance, for faster map movement. Note that enemies won't be able to just take your territories, you will always at least have an HQ to defend with. They will sometimes bring really huge forces, but a lot of times you can turtle and defend from the AI even if your regional defences aren't very strong.

Look at Jay being all strategic on the star system map when no AI is even capable of taking one territory ^^
IIRC he could get attacked once or twice, and maybe he could lose the territory, and maybe his main army could be too far & he could have too little requisition to reinforce around, but that's a lot of maybes
