The SturmTiger, also known as Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61, was a heavy assault vehicle developed by Germany during World War II. Only 18 of these vehicles were built, which were mainly used on the eastern front.
The SturmTiger was based on the chassis of the Tiger II heavy tank, but was modified to mount a large-caliber rocket launcher gun. Its main weapon was a 38 cm howitzer, which could fire high-explosive and concrete-penetrating shells at short ranges. This gun was capable of destroying enemy fortifications, bunkers and buildings with ease.
The vehicle was extremely heavy and slow, which hindered its mobility on the battlefield. However, its armor was very thick and provided considerable protection against enemy attacks. The SturmTiger also carried a crew of five, which included a driver, gunner and loader.
Although the SturmTiger was impressive in terms of firepower and protection, its limited production and poor mobility limited its effectiveness on the battlefield. In addition, its large size and weight required considerable care and maintenance. Despite these limitations, the SturmTiger remains a fascinating vehicle and represents a curious variant of German tanks during World War II.
