  • Todays peek into the tool cabinet reveals a selection of rivet heading tools and monkey tools. Both rivet setting tools and the monkey tools are typically shop made tools.

    Gotta say, I think the cabinet is pretty sweet, handles and all. Can't believe people watch the videos and the thing that comes to mind is a complaint about the handles! lol

    The store-bought handles don't bother me at all. Run what'cha got! I think its a great idea for subs to send in a handle though. That would be cool. If I have one on hand I'll send it in. No forging for me right now. We're having a lot of rain and oppressive humid heat from Gordon.

    You know you're going to get an absolute million drawer pulls now. :D Seriously though, this is showing me how many tools I need to learn to make.

      23,377 subs. If only 1% sent in a drawer pull èach, would be 233. Think that would be plenty! 🇺🇸

      No. all subs. have been incorporated; one handle one sub. This would hopefully *close* the drawer. Yes, there're other means to *closing* the "pull(s)" of the matter. Are you a 1%'er or one of the 23,144 remaining? Send your one handle regardless of placement please and end it. Comments self indulgence ?

    Morning nothing to do with this video just wondering when the bull will be up and running again. You haven’t said much about. I know you must be lost without it I no I would be. That’s a great tool, can’t wait to see more forging videos with the bull hammer... thx again ....Paul

      I wish I knew. The cylinder is from a company no longer in business and the original builder of the hammer says he still has the parts to rebuild. But so far it hasn't been completed. The other option is about $600 for an all new cylinder.

    Hi John. Do you think that hitting a steel ball from a ball bearing could bring the desired form to a rivet header? I mean, a steel ball with the correct size of a rivet´s head, maybe even grinded in one side to provide a stable stand and the deep measure?

    • @BlackBearForge
      @BlackBearForge  5 років тому

      Yes, that is a common way to make the half round.

    Unrelated to this video, but I just watched a guy use a T augur to drill a mortise in a timber, and I wondered how one was made. It looks like it's been twisted, but that would be too irregular.

      It might be fun to try one. A spoon bit would be the most basic version.

    I have a long hollow drill rod with which I plan on making monkey tools. I think I’ll never get to it because it seems such a bother to drift out the narrow center hole. Might be buying some instead..but then what to do with the drill rod?

      Black Bear Forge and that’s why I’m an idiot! I sincerely didn’t even think about drilling it, and the idea of drifting it was daunting. Thanks for the insight.

      No, he is out of state and not in the hammer building business. Sometimes things just take however long the take. On the bright side I am learning other ways to do the same work
