    I like the style of it with the collar, it keeps everything nice and straight. Thanks for the video Glen.

      It does help improve accuracy. With a few minor changes this rivet header system is very good. Thanks.

    Great tools! They’re there to make our work a little bit easier.
    Too bad with the injury. Accidents do happen, but many of them can indeed be avoided. We live and learn!

      My injury could and should have been avoided. Anyway it could have been worse and I learned a good lesson. The rivet header is working out well for me. Thanks.

    Those abrasive wheels are dangerous. I have personal experience.....I'm surprise the ER didn't throw a suture in that laceration. You must have not nicked the joint capsule!! Great to hear. You always come up with some new avenue for tooling. Great post Glen. Keep a look out for any signs of infection!!

      I took so long to go to the hospital that they said it didn't need any stitches at that point. My knuckle still hurts (really) and it's weeks later. I'll avoid using a cutoff disc when possible. Thanks.

  • @greasydot
    @greasydot 11 місяців тому +1

    Dang Glen,,,, thankfully all that happened was a swollen hand and some leakage. Gotta watch out for those cutoff wheels and side pressure causing the wheel to bend. Digging the rivet tool. Great idea. I saw someone had a jig they used a radial end mill to give it more meat on the head.

    Nice cut! I did the same a couple weeks ago with a cut off disc that exploded. No injuries, but a pice hit my safety glasses hard.

  • @LifeSavingDefense
    @LifeSavingDefense 11 місяців тому +1

    The cut… Direct pressure till it stops bleeding then use half the sticky part of the bandaid to hold the cut together and another bandaid on top as normal to catch any blood that seeps through..
    As usual for those of use who work with our hands alot… duct tape if no bandaid around..😂
    yep I learn my lesson about using the cutting wheel without a guard only at the time I was using a steel metal cutting wheel which was directional but I’ve never used one before I didn’t know it and they were the directions so it caught and tried to drag my hand in with it so after many many years of working without guards, I put the guard back on for at least the cutting wheels, and usually when we are some type of gloves and always wear some type of eye protection, and prefer an impact resistant full face shield.
    I will admit, I still don’t have a guard on the grinder, and I actually did grind off a finger print a few months ago but hey, I still have nine other fingers and the 10th one healed… 😎 fine line between stupid and stubborn
    Nice tool.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs 10 місяців тому

      Very well said - a fine line between needing a cold drink after work and needing medical assistance... I'm going to avoid using a cutoff disc on the angle grinder when possible. Anyway, thanks for all the good advice.

    You will just need to start putting the guard back on your power tools. Looking at the quality of the tong design now com paired to the ones I purchased all those years ago. they are 100% improved on the design as they look like production tools. Keep up the good work.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs 10 місяців тому

      I often feel apologetic for previous renditions of tongs, etc. - stuff that I feel I've improved over time. But I guess that's natural with hand made items. Thanks for your support.

    Safety Coordinator wasn't there today I presume. Use a Portaband ™ to cut most things. A Dynabrade ™for most others. A flap disc for finishing and removal of light imperfections.

    Thinking about the grinder mishap: did the disc bind because the grinder was fixed and couldnt pull itself forward out of the kerf? I was thinking of making a jig for getting square cuts in large stock, but maybe I should just go buy an abrasive chop saw lol.
    Edit: Just noticed everyone is talking about the "death wheel", sorry for being another voice in the crowd lol! Lovely video regardless, you really are a toolmaker.

    Using a disc cutter or grinder without the guard will often result in hand injuries or worse. It could of hit you in the face. That is why they are fitted with one. Hopefully lesson learnt. By the way enjoy your video's.
