  • In a market flooded with SUVs, sometimes a hatchback, like the 2023 Mazda 3, is nice. This one is pretty slippery, and even comes with AWD!

    I have a 2023 Premium 6MT. I was able to get it for $1800 below MSRP and I can’t help but feel like it’s the best car below $30k available right now. The interior and stereo is special. MPG on long trips for me is 38-41. Skip the turbo the NA has enough power and costs far less money.

    Round trip from LA to Vegas I averaged 43.3 mpg on the NA 2.5 2021 mazda 3 sedan.
    The most I driven on a full tank was 305 miles before refueling with 3.5 gallons left before empty. This was just driving about 35 miles every day round trip for work. So my average after refueling was 32.2 MPG.

    DM, In a market FLOODED with SUVs, sometimes you just want a compact wagon or a practical hatch that puts substance over style. 😉

    • @flips220
      @flips220 11 місяців тому +1

      I hear what you're saying, and I agree, but the Mazda 3 hatch might not be the best car to make that example with. Don't get me wrong, I like the car, but Mazda went style over substance in a few ways with this car.

      @@flips220 Yes, you are 100 percent correct. I was really taking a dig at SUVs more than praising the Mazda hatch. Today's Mazda 3 is probably the worst example of hatchback practicality.😂 Over the last 4 generations the Mazda hatch has gone backwards in fulfilling the core hatchback mission of form following function. If we use the Protege 5 as a starting point, today's 3 hatch is nothing more than a bizarre design indulgence. BTW I drive a Pontiac Vibe. Along with its twin the Toyota Matrix, it was a paragon of practicality. Today's cramped Corolla hatch is nearly as bad as the Mazda 3 in delivering hatchback utility. 🤨

    I have a 2015 Mazda 3, 2.0L sedan. I added a 40mm lift kit. I'm at 150k miles and still get 41.5 mpg at 65 mph. Great cars.

    Rear styling on the Mazda3 hatch is too bulbous & weird looking for my taste, so I went with the CX-30 Carbon Edition (non-turbo, 186hp 2.5L engine) instead. I've been averaging 31-32 MPG over the last 18 months, pretty much all suburban around-town errand running at 50 mph or less speeds (north Phoenix, AZ). I haven't had any opportunity to do open HW driving really yet, but guess that I would probably average around 36 MPG.

    The NA seems like the better choice for saving money and fuel I didn’t realize they lowered the compression so much for the turbo model that explains the big difference in fuel economy

    • @Hallowsaw
      @Hallowsaw 10 місяців тому

      You need to lower compression with turbos if you want to use regular fuel. Otherwise it will constantly pull timing to not nuke itself.

    @Daily Motor Could we get a mpg test on this Mazda3's competetor, the 2024 Subaru Impreza RS?
    Just about every reviewer I've seen is saying they get less than the 33 mpg highway that it's listed at. Only one got better, stating they got mid-30s highway.

    I’m not sure how a commenter is stating that the entire infotainment system in the car is shitty simply because it isn’t always touch screen. You’re allowed a preference buddy. Grow up and touch some grass. That doesn’t make it horrible 😂. I’ve utilized the non-touch screen for nearly 3 years. I don’t even think about touch screens. I hate how gross and dirty they look. Suppose that means all touch screens are shit then hey? Interesting logic hey?

      my guy don't buy that silly car- you'd be a fool. Also, the HK system is LAME. The other HK systems in subarus are terrible and subaru almost NEVER has a good audio system. Don't be a dummy- buy a better car!

    Mazda and Acura have the worst infotainment systems on sale in 2023. Lack of touch screen is such a pain. Ive had both touchscreen and non, and it’s so much easier to just touch what you want to select. If Mazda insists on keeping the scroll wheel, at least take a page from BMW and have the screen be touch as well… best of both worlds…

      Finally someone agrees with me. So many people love the Mazda setup but it’s way less convenient than a touchscreen, especially when using CarPlay

    • @danielblancomedel2063
      @danielblancomedel2063 Рік тому +8

      Disagree. I have a gen 3 with a touchscreen that I NEVER touch. The knob becomes second nature to use. And the position of the screen is great to see easily without taking your eyes off the road. I kind of don't understand that people don't get why Mazda designed it like this.

      I see your point, but very few cars at this price point have as nice of an interior, sound system, driving dynamics, etc. Corollas go for this price all day long and are slower and not nearly as psudo-luxury inside.
