Some one in my TCT club mentioned this video to me. Funny thing purchased mine the same year you made this video, but mine is a 61, about the same in all respects. The top part was as bad if not worse than yours but the bottom survived in excellent condition. Finished it that same year as well but all the restoration was done outside in the open. Had to get the top part done before the winter snows came. The trailer was a one owner. And he did get to see it finished. I glad he did for he past away one month after that.

Yeah when I first got it I cleaned the roof real good and put like 5-6 coats of Henry's on the roof, I may need to touch it up soon though. The last owner pulled out all the electric too so my next project is to put a new fuse panel and replace the shore connector
It really did hold up to time well, I just had to rebuild the top section and roof due to water. The simple crank lift worked everytime. The only real issue I fond was that wiring lights and vents required some clever design.
I would love to see the inside restored. I own a 1971 towlow. I am redoing it.. adding some diamond plate on it. Just for shinny. Like the inside of door area.. so it will last. I ruined the piano hinge on door. Had to order a new one on line. Cause no stores carried a 2.0 piano hinge any more. Replaced glass and screens. Put new tires in.. which by the way can be a 15 or 14 tire. Only the top had water damage to the in side cause of broken windows. So I replace it with a easy to wipe down bath room board. Love these campers cause the framing is all metal. I replaced insulation. Added new fridge and stove top. Re wired it all. Added USB and some extra plug-ins. Seats are still original. I love the round crank up in the front. This is my dream camper. I added a portable toilet and a portable shower. . I will be redoing the bottom at some point. And lining the under neith with metal so the floor will never rot. This will be around long after I am gone. Thank God my kids and grand kids love to camp. I will get one more of these and redo it too. Just so we all can camp togather.
I got my hands on a rare 1968 deluxe 18ft 180 swivel camper From hi-lo, its in decent condition got it for 100 bucks! I'm looking for help and insight on what I need to do and look out for any help would be awesome!
I just got my grandparents' old 1963 Hi-Lo, and I have to replace some wood from the top half like you did, and I'm kinda worried about separating the two halves. But I don't see a way around it, since some of the wood that needs replaced is beneath the tracks. Any advice?
I had a forklift so I just suspended it. But when I worked on pop-up trailers, we always just cut 2x4 to size and lowered the roof onto them, obivioulsy brace them and secure them to the roof so they don't kick out, but don't limit yourself to just 4, use 8 or more until you're comfortable with it being braced. Hi, nice job. Did you leave your silver siding without paint? I have a '68 that I also stripped off the paint but was told that that aluminum will start to crack if not painted. Curious how yours is doing?
Great question. If I remember, the metal was oxidized and bare so the coarse polish stripped everything off. Usually, I use the gel aircraft paint stripper....but wear chemical gloves. Thanks!

I had never seen these before I re-built this one. It seems like the roof is the weak link as far as water leaks go.

Yes, mine is a Voyager. Did you need to refurb the hydraulics?
@@beingverna No it doesn't have hydraulics, you raise and lower with a hand crank under the rear bumper

I really wish I had made a video of the process rather than just photos. It was 2013 and I didn't know better
