Michael, you kept saying his playing was so lyrical. That long ending solo was him telling the story of the rain. He says “it’s begun to rain”, and it starts with the sadness of the rain just beginning… first as little droplets… then to a light drizzle… to straight rain… to a downpour… to an outright deluge… with the drummer matching the emphasis of each rain drop each step of the way… then the rain suddenly stops!… and the sky begins to clear. Brilliant!
OMG Michael...Frank Marino and Mahagoney Rush Live. 1976 IMO The best ever recording of a live guitarist. My favorite instrumental of all time, The World Anthem. Please give that album a listen.
27:15 😅 - Frank is absolutely one of the MOST UNDERRATED singer / guitarist / composers of his generation. Always mesmerized by his work. Great choice!
Frank Marino is one of our Guitar Gods from up here Montreal Canada. Have seen him 8 times live. He has alot of very interesting songs. Have all his albums in my collection. Check out Strange Dreams, The Answer, Poppy to name a few of his songs.A Canadian gem 💯
I heard this for the first time less than a year ago. I couldn't believe I had somehow missed this amazing song for 50 years. His vocals are so well pitched here it's masterful.
Frank is absolutely amazing from Mahogany Rush. I saw him in 2006 in Chicago at the House of blues and he played constantly for like 3 hours. Amazing! Amazing amazing!.
Thanks, Mike! I appreciate that breakdown. Another take away for me is the use of SPACE, SPACE, SPACE, PHRASING and DYNAMICS! He is such a commanding performer and has a ton of confidence from decades of blowing away audiences. That's funny....wearing a shag carpet. :P His leather outfit is kind of a hallmark of his since the beginning. ---- Marc A
Frank is a genius. So sad he isn't as huge as many others. I won't name names, but he kills many that are so over-rated in the media. This performance is one of the greatest ever by a stand-alone guitarist. His tune, "He's Calling' blows my mind every time. Complete psycho wigout. Thanks Michael for showing him off to your subscribers.
Michael, you have to give this guy a better song to listen to. He can absolutely melt your face off especially back in the 70s and 80s. The most underrated blues rocker on this planet by FAR. I recommend listening to Stranger Dreams, Dragon fly, ain’t dead yet, his version of All Along The Watchtower, and so many more.
He is like the sheer technique and sound of George Harrison or Eric Clapton, or Brian May.. mostly George.. Oh Wow! A soulful filling delightful clean sound.
Check out Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Early 1970’s. I saw them at the Hollywood Sportatorioum in south Florida back around 1972, 1973. Marino played a couple Hendrix songs!

Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush Live, from '75, one of my favorite guitar albums, or any album, of all time. I'm a King Bee Baby.
Strat electronics in an sg?! That’s badass!!! Excellent voice as well, really really good tone and pitch, this dude is legit 🤘🏼
Frank Marino is the real deal, with or without Mahogany Rush.
His name would be mentioned in the same breath as Hendrix back in the day.
Summer 1981 Austin Texas, Frank opened for Triumph what a show ,this brings me back ..Thanks so much!

Man, that guitar sounds killer. I want one!
Do I hear a little George Benson in there? And Dickie Betts? Crazy
Hah! Yes! I caught that as soon as he slid into that jazzy riff.

Mikey boy thats a gorgeous guitar you have.
Tortex yellows? A man of culture.
This was a absolute suprise, really dig this cat!! Still trying to figure the guitar out, looks like a SG with SSS??
I have Child Of The Novelty from 74. He always reminded me of Hendrix reincarnated on that album!!
Listen to the Mahogany Rush Live album if you want your mind blown
Sounds like Jeff Healey playing a Hendrix cover song.
Frank who?? I love seeing the expressions on people's faces when they hear Frank Marino for the first time!
❤
I really like that guitar Mike. Is that Zebrawood?
FM slaps on Guitar...big time hendrix fan and his covers are amazing. check out stories of a hero..great song with whaling solos
To me it’s like jimi Hendrix in the first part then alman brothers in the second part tonality wise
Please listen to Aint Dead Yet by Marino. Top tier playing for the 1980s.
