The best live performance of this is from Eric Clapton's Crossroads tour in '07. Steve killed it, it was mind blowing. But Steve is never not iconic, thanks for doing this song, one of my all time favorites, and Steve is top of the top of musicians, songwriters & vocalists.
Michael, thank you for this channel and thank you for sharing all this wonderful music with your phenomenal takes on them! Coming from someone that loves music as much as anyone yet has ZERO talent I love to spend my downtime with you on here. It is said by a lot of people that they would give a farm in Georgia for this or that but I’ve always said that about being able to play or sing! I could spend hours just sitting with you during these sessions. Again, thank you so much for not only your teaching of your craft but your perspectives in the lyrics and messages they send! Godspeed my brother!
Oh man, i haven't heard Winwood since I was growing up! His voice is amazing, and damn those drums sounded awesome! Great fills, amazing timing definitely made this song stand out as well! ✌️
Started playing sax with his fathers band as a kid. He's def known for his Hamond B3 playing than his guitar. He is an amazing song writer and vocalist as well. What a career. Played with Spencer Davis Group when he was like 16 - when he wrote and sang the classic "Gimme Some Lovin ". He doesn't tour with a bass player because he typically plays the bass line with his foot on the organ throughout the concert. Amazing.
I signed up for your Lifetime GuitarGate offer. I love your content and breakdown of these great songs. I've been playing for a year and I look forward to learning so much more. Thank you, Michael!
I’ve turned in so many young people to this song, and Windwood’s guitar skills, since I learned he played this one and a lot of other things. Winwood can play all the instruments. The one he does with Clapton, from the same year Tal Wilkenfield became known, for her performance with Beck, is a monster display of improv soling .
If there was ever an underrated icon of classic rock, Steve Winwood would be it. Just on the basis of Dear Mr. Fantasy and I Can't find my way Home, he's one of the greats. I know your deal is the technical aspects, and that's totally cool, but this guy is the shit.
This is a Traffic song. The original would have had the great Dave Mason on guitar. The first time I saw Winwood playing the lead on this song, it blew me away. Always knew him as a keyboardist, of course! But very adept with the ax! I actually think I saw him on this tour when he stopped in Indianapolis. Here's one thing I noticed when I saw him live---where is that bass line coming from?
Weird to be the first commenter but I want to let you know that you keep me motivated to keep playing and get better everyday. You have no idea who I am but I love you big man.
This is on Winwood’s 2017 Greatest Hits Live record. It really rewarding to own. I suggest the vinyl it has more and longer songs than the CD. I think it’s still affordable out there. Lotta wow moments. Good luck.
Nice version! I swear someone got their hands on my bands version. I’m the drummer of my band and I love playing like this. Complexifying as the solo goes. Some say I play too much. When it works it’s awesome. When I make a mistake……😂
I saw Traffic with Jim Capaldi, on sax and Steve Winwood singing & organ/piano. There was a African drummer on congas and dressed with colored robes. It was at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1972-74 time frame. Too old and forgetful to remember! ua-cam.com/video/epyHwMCw4hg/v-deo.html
You have got to check out Scott H Biram. He's an awesome guitar player and singer. Seems like he would be right up your alley. Would love to see one of your videos on him
The times he got out from behind the Hammond and strapped on the guitar were the best bits when I saw him live in Cambridge years ago. Sometimes the extended noodling on the organ got a little boring.
You mentioned a while back that Clapton and Srv love to start a solo before the chord change, leading into it. And at the time I remember thinking that winwood likes to come in AFTER the chord change instead
Love your videos Michael, and although I can’t afford to become a guitargate member right now, maybe I can in the future. Even if you don’t do a reaction video, I implore you to take a look at “Holy Holy” by Geordie Greep. I think you’ll love his sound. A modern Zappa maybe.
...Michael,.. one for your "Reacts" vids... Gary Moore's cover of Evil Love at a Jim Capaldi tribute gig. This absolute gem might have passed you bye? If any of his Guitargate followers could post a link in the right place on his communities page, thanks! ...his guitar aggressively weeps ;(
hey,yy .micheal. .. almost ready to join up. !! my strat is on the way... aaand im picking up a dumble clone. ceriatone ots50 with C lator .. 🎸🔉 ... just need a cab. how about mics ? camera . ? what's the setup needed ? MacBook Pro is that usable without extras for lessons?
Prodigy. Songwriter. Piano. Guitar. Absolutely insanely talented.
Steve Winwood is the man, since he was a kid.
He's the man, yes he am
“i’m a man, yes I am…”
Winwood live is incredible, nothing flashy just an outpouring of musical genius!
Walfredo De Los Reyes, Jr. is the drummer! What a beast!!
And he has a UA-cam channel. 🤩 www.youtube.com/@WalfredoreyesJrVideos
Forever grateful that I saw Traffic perform the entire John Barleycorn album and part of Low Spark live in 1971.

Michael, thanks for playing my request. Great song, great playing … and killer drumming.
What a fuckin tune 🎉
Steve can play any instrument you put in his hands probably.. Genius, talent and a cool guy.

Great video - thanks Michael! Steve Winwood is amazing - I can only imagine what is was like when he was 14 and performing in the Spencer Davis Group!
Steve has always been one of my favorite guitar players.
His guitar is so crystal clear in the mix! Sounds phenomenal!!!
He's a legend
Oh man, i haven't heard Winwood since I was growing up! His voice is amazing, and damn those drums sounded awesome! Great fills, amazing timing definitely made this song stand out as well! ✌️
His voice has always hit the notes over years even now.
Such a great song

Hendrix tried to get Winwood to be in a band with him several times. Love this old toon, think it was a toon he did with Traffic.
I signed up for your Lifetime GuitarGate offer. I love your content and breakdown of these great songs. I've been playing for a year and I look forward to learning so much more. Thank you, Michael!
“Put words to it so you can then bring it back”. That will stick with me!
Steve is dressed like some dad that just came from a neighborhood classic car show, so crazy to see someone of his caliber on stage like that.
Yeah, the musicians from his era usually wear tuxedos.
Saw him do this at the Jim Capaldi tribute gig at the Roundhouse in Camden about 15 years ago. A very special night.
...lucky man!
I’ve turned in so many young people to this song, and Windwood’s guitar skills, since I learned he played this one and a lot of other things.

I believe the drummer to be Walfredo Reyes Jr, dude is a legend!!
Such a great guitar player for arguably the best Hammond organ player ever.

I saw Winwood, Traffic early '90s and in the middle of the set, they all changed instruments...real musicians
You have got to do “I’m Still Fine” by the Red Clay Strays!! One of the best current bands in my opinion. (Live at the Ryman version is amazing)
Great stuff ❤

Dude playing the hell out of those Lace Sensor pickups.

Nice video. The closing groove is from the original recording back in the 60s when I suppose the guitar solo was by Dave Mason.

Damn, that was fire
Check out Can't Find My Way Home with Clapton, Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall II
Davin McCoy - The Wolf and the Peach. Give it a try. It’s gut wrenchingly phenomenal
I always forget what a guitar player he is too
The times he got out from behind the Hammond and strapped on the guitar were the best bits when I saw him live in Cambridge years ago. Sometimes the extended noodling on the organ got a little boring.
Walfredo Reyes Jr is the drummer, I believe.
REVIEW THE ONE WITH HIM AND CLAPTON FROM 2012ish. TREMENDOUS!!!
Slow n easy live a kexp by Scott H Biram is a good one to start at !
You mentioned a while back that Clapton and Srv love to start a solo before the chord change, leading into it. And at the time I remember thinking that winwood likes to come in AFTER the chord change instead

Please do another S.W. or Traffic but from the 70s.
Love me some traffic
Have you ever reacted to SRV Texas Flood live
He was the shit in the Spencer Davis group.
Walfredo Reyes, Jr.
Prefer his playing over Clapton’s any day. More melodic and not as predictable.
Live at el mocambo

There is a great version by Jimi. Sound is bad though. Bootleg that sounds like prototype Hendrix
Dallas version, not Winterland ;)
Hendrix could wreck any song
Dear Mr Fantasy liveMike Bloomfield Al Kooperkiller guitar solo!!! ua-cam.com/video/gmzN3KayWU8/v-deo.htmlsi=NstCXPfJ6c6t9sq7
A VERY COOL Old Traffic tune....
ua-cam.com/video/jwQ42ah9v9I/v-deo.html
Ahem............ no bass? Don''t the pedals on the organ count?
Didn’t Hendrix want him in his band?
you probably know this but Stevie played organ on the long version voodoo child on Electric Ladyland
@No did not know that -Steve is a superb musician who seems to have shunned the limelight a bit like Mick Taylor
Traffic, they don't write and play them like this anymore.
Are you not entertained ? !
Seve tout eric Clapton to play
