Thank you for watching the video. I’ve seen those Middle Eastern videos. Those guys are crazy. 😂 ... I probably wouldn’t have gotten stuck if I drove it like I stole it.
We have a lx470 and it rode really smoothly on the stock AHC. Switched to the OME kit on 33s and the truck became a little more uncomfortable but i got used to it. Would I go back to the AHC? Nah its too much fun on 33s and a lift :)
Thanks for watching the video. I totally agree! Stay tuned I have some additional suspension parts that I’m installing soon. Hope to have a review of those items.
ABS traction control goes off in those situations most likely because you’re bushings are worn out on that older vehicle that’s what happened to mine after driving it for over 250,000 miles
I've been thinking of importing prado petrol automatic ten ish year old but in the UK seems not popular option and I don't know why? Anyone knows why this is not popular in UK. Lexus lx470 is rare even more like hens teeth...sad state
Thanks for watching the video. Yes I would and I have been off-roading in stock suspension. There’s limitations, however these vehicles are quite capable in stock form.
@@lockyrichardson7195 in stock form with little to no weight inside, they perform great. If you decide to off-road or overland with camping gear then you’ll wait to upgrade the tired suspension. Another limitation would be tire size. Oversized tires will give you height and traction. In order to get bigger tires, you’ll need larger springs in the rear, and crank the torsions in the front. Now cranking torsions will lift the front end, however now you’re messing with the angle of the axles. It’s sounds more complicated than it is. A great resource for suspension setup is the Ih8mud forums.
I've owned 6 Land Cruiser loved them all. Unmatched capability and reliability, currently have an 08 200 Series, will buy another 200 most likely a heritage edition.
Thanks for watching the video. I was referring to the anti slip… you’re one of the lucky ones if you’ve never experienced it. Being stock and well maintained is probably why haven’t had it happened.
If your LX used to have AHC, before you even consider to change anything first you need to understand what AHC does on that vehicle. I know you bought it already modified, but that just means you have to do what the previous owner didn't: study the lesson right and get it done right. The AHC works as suspension, damping, anti-sway and adjusts all these functions according to driver input, speed input, steering wheel input, low gear input, and even abs sensors input. As a rule of thumb, removing the AHC means everything has to be replaced: springs, dampers, TORSION BARS, sway bars. I would start with checking what was actually done by the previous owner. And by the way, you like the way it rides, you should try one with fully working AHC.
Thank you for watching the video. You’re absolutely right. I have since changed out just about all of the suspension components. She rides beautifully. As for driving an LX with a fully functional AHC, I was able to test drive one prior to purchasing my LX. It’s was a dream to drive. I honestly purchased my LX because it didn’t have the AHC. I purchased it with the intent to modify the suspension for offroad use. Maybe I should make another video detailing my newly installed suspension and how it feels on and off the the road. Thanks again 🍻
Great video ! I had similar issues with my traction / anti skid on tight corners entering and exiting the freeway. It went away when I installed new poly rack bushings and did a front bearing service & set proper Tq to them. I was told by an old Tech from Toyota that you gotta be really careful with those since it effects steering angle and wheel speed sensor accuracy . Great job tho , I agree 100% , one of the reasons I updated my AHC and used a lift specially made for it was how well and smooth it rides. Just can’t beat the cloud like ride !
Thomas Christoe Thank you very much! I may need to look into the rack bushings. I can see where a little play there would affect anti skid sensors. Thanks again!
Looks like you have a newer channel. Nice video I enjoyed it, gotta check out some of your other content :) gotta ask - What drew you to the LX/LC 100 (did you have a preference between LX vs LC?) in the first place, and what else were you considering?
Zachary Schlecht Thanks! Yeah I’m new to the UA-cam world. I’m having a blast at it. I purchased the LX based on the cost difference. The LX was substantially cheaper than the LC, plus a lot of LX owners bring their vehicles in to the dealer for service. I’m really happy that I go the LX over the LC. I hope you like the videos.
Zachary Schlecht Holy cow... I think I just removed your last comment on accident. So yes, I owned a Jeep JKU and absolutely hated it. Nothing but issues. I owned a 95 Jeep Cherokee... that was a really good rig, however not big enough for the traveling I wanted to do. My wife has a 5th gen 4runner and I love that thing however still to small. I considered a GX470 and a Tundra. I already have a full size Ford F-350 and figured I don’t need another truck. You gotta love reliability and it’s size.
You are not wrong about going fast and the tip in on the front it's scary alright, I wonder how it is with a HVC delete and all new suspension kit if it would get rid of the dangerous tip in on a corner ..
Thanks for watching the video. I added wheeler bump stops and installed stiffer torsion bars since the video. So far so good, I haven’t had any problems.
@@302esky the AHC was deleted by the previous owner. I swapped out the torsion bars, upper arms and shocks. I have another video where I talk about the suspension upgrade.
Thank you for your support! I would definitely get the Carfax and look over maintenance records and prior accidents. If the previous owner did all of the maintenance then that vehicle should last you a long time.
I'm wondering whether to buy a used 4Runner or a used Land Crusier both 98-2005 models. After watching your video I think you could help me with your knowledge obviously without this compromising it at all. Currently one of my vehicles is a Lexus LX450, this means that I know something about this class of vehicles
Thank you for watching the video. That’s a hard choice. They are both reliable vehicles and very capable off road. All the doors on the 100 are going to feel heavy and solid, whereas the 4Runner doors will feel a lot lighter. The 100 is larger, however you already have an LX450. The 100 also has a tailgate and the 4Runner does not. Hard decisions, I guess it all depends on what you want to do and how comfortable you want to be.
Hayden Smith That’s really good. The previous owner had it removed. I haven’t had any lights on because of the AHC removal. Traction control lights and bells go off when I’m off road or taking a tight turn.
LX Adventures I’m going to look at the rack bushings and see if it’s the culprit. It doesn’t happen all of the time, but has happened a couple of times.
I just did some thinking mine had a similar problem but it was the abs sensor. It wouldn’t kick on all the time but every once and awhile when losing traction it would kick on. If you have access to tech stream that would def help you figure out the issue.
You nailed it. Love/hate. Started with an 80 Series, loved everything but it was a gutless 12mpg pig. I daily drive as well as play so gutless is really frustrating. Moved up to an 02 100 Series and fell in love again even though it certainly is a heavy pig. The only mods I’ve done are larger tires and cranking the torsion bars. The stock ride is so nice. Being a guy, I “upgraded” to Black Rhino wheels for a slightly wider track. Big mistake. Drove terrible. After a couple months I drove back to Les Schwab and gave those $1000 turds back even trade for stock Tundra 18’s. Best thousand bucks I ever lost. Now it drives great and I’m leaving it alone. I may do the OME lift if I can keep the stock handling characteristics but once bitten twice shy. These are incredible machines in stock form for light offroad. I’m not into mud bogs or rock crawling anyway. The more I drive it, the more I love the Toyota reliability and the drawbacks fade away. Thanks for the video, subbed.
Thanks for watching the video. Isn’t it funny how we modify and upgrade, however it isn’t always the right choice. I just recently added SPC upper control arms and new shocks. Just waiting for an alignment. I’ll make sure I do a video in the mods and how the ride quality is. Thanks again
In the last 24 years, my family has had 10 LX/LCs as daily drivers....five 80 series and five hundys. There is not a better machine with wheels on the planet. To respond to your ABS going crazy....It does that because something is legitimately out of whack. I would say the most common reason is the steering rack is worn and creating slack OR the steering rack bushings are worn causing the wheel to sensor incorrect wheel motion.
Thanks for watching! Can’t argue with you about the LC/LX being a bad ass vehicle. I’ll have to look into the rack bushings.... however it hasn’t happened in awhile since I replaced the torsion bars and added bump stops.
hi mate ,all you need it's one 200 series diesel convert almost all your hate to loves, mine use 23 mpg in freeway and 18 mpg in the city with more torque than petrol ones but still departure angle is same you can modify it bring it higher. I wish you can get any ride which you love.
well fuel economy of the petrol version sucks maybe - a reason why I have a diesel version. by the way mine is a LC 100 50TH anniversary edition from 2000 with air suspension and I wouldn't change that. Still running 160 KM/H safely ... I LOVE THAT LAND CRUISER - and yes if I had the money I would buy the heritage 200 edition (no question) - but where I do live I am actually better of with the old version - you can get it repaired even in the deepest bush - and cost of repair, if necessary is not that high.
I've been looking at an '01 LX for sale around me, and bouncing around the idea of buying it. On one hand, the fact of spending so much money on a high mileage (soon to be) twenty year old car is a bit daunting, on the other hand, having a vehicle renown for reliability and capability keeps drawing me back. Being that it will be my Daily, I'm putty entirely too much thought into it... Thanks for the video!
Thank you for watching the video. Definitely pull the carfax and any service records. If the previous owner took care of the LX, it should last a long time without major expense. Enjoy! 🍻.
Take to mechanic, period. They usually know best. Bought mine w/223k & drove it overland/towing/overloaded 8k across country & back with no worries & ran perfect. I did go over everything w/my mechanic from bumper to bumper, though.
@@kellstat Thank you for watching the video. I typically like wrenching and doing things myself. I was able to fix the issues myself, however I did bring my LX to the dealer the a few weeks ago because of a vibration I couldn’t track down. They located and fixed it. She drives like a dream.
Got '06 tlc 100 non-ahc(unicorn), I have never had bells & whistles going off, except when overloaded hauling (1400lbs) & towing(5kish 8.5" tall brick) then hit big bumps @ hwy speeds. Ran codes to double check, then disconnected batt, after reset everything was fine... until big bump again. Happened x4 in 8k.
I no longer have AHC and all the suspension components have been replaced. She drives awesome... only get the bells and whistles offroad if my center diff isn’t activated.
Cool video! Glad I found your channel... #6 the delicate drivers seat leather that tears, #7 the wood and chrome, #8 that my LC buddies remind me my LX not a real LC #9 too reliable and Expensify to feel okay to mod it... oh wait never mind! Booyah looks great. Gonna go down the rabbit hole and watch ur other vids now... hoping to hear about the led set on rear bumper and hood, also keen to hear about the rack. Cheers (60, 40, and hopefully LX if I can retrieve back from wifey)
Thank for watching! Lol I totally agree with 6, 7, 8, and 9. My front leather seats are shot... debating whether I need to put a cover on or just take it to an upholsterer.
CORRADO RACER VW VRT Wow that’s awesome. I’m using Synthetic also and have my tires inflated to 44 psi. Hand calculated I am at 15 miles per gallon. I do have a roof rack and larger tires, that might be why I have lower MPG’s.
So I have a 92 Corrado VR6 I bought new and recently got a 94 Land Cruiser. I said it is not likely those two cars will be parked next to each other in 2020. But you are pretty close.
I've been driving my 2002 LC for 5 years, I have 305k, the VSC has only activated exactly 1 time, and it was a freak snow storm in the south and I didn't know how to take the curve. So not sure why your system is activating on the freeway. I drive 75+mph about 100 miles round trip every day and that's never once happened to me.
Thanks for watching the video. I believe I fixed the problem. I swapped out the stock torsion bars for aftermarket torsions. That has helped out immensely. As of lately is hasn’t gone off.
If you used urethane bushing on the rack when refreshing the suspension that’ll do it, not enough deflection in urethane caused the VSC to engage prematurely, over/under steer is picked up by the ECU and it starts the brake engagement! NEVER use urethane bushing on a Toyota with VSC!
What I like most about my Land Cruiser is that it's not a 4Runner. Every time I drive mine I see ten to fifteen 4Runners. I only know of two other Land Cruisers within twenty miles of me and one is a Silver 100 series and the other is a white 200 series mines black. Out on the interstate my 200 will get 19.5 to 20.8 and most of the time I average around 14.5 to 16 per fill-up.
Thanks for watching the video. I agree, Land Cruisers are unique. My wife has a white 5th gen 4Runner and I swear they’re everywhere. It’s nice having a vehicle that’s popular worldwide but unique and rare in your community.
About your traction control, push the button three times and hold it on the third this should turn it completely off. I have a 200 and that's the way I can shut mine off.
Unfortunately this vehicle doesn’t have a traction control button. I’ve been able to fix the dreaded alarm by replacing the suspension. Less body roll now.
Cold air intake, long tupe headers only no need for cat back and a Unichip tune. You’ll notice significant improvement and 295 to 300 engine horsepower. No Joke.
“Lateral weight transfer” hahaha you had to go there! I want to upgrade to a Land Cruiser now that I have 4 kids, can’t take the whole family in the FJ anymore. Good video, will share with a friend who bought a 100 series.
AHC is a fully active suspension and solves many of your issues. The problem with uneasy feeling at turns... when you engage sport+ very stiff and turns like on rails, 2" instant lift at the push of a button for your departure angle issues, your economy issues also lessened because AHC at highway speeds drops itself for improved economy but it ain't a prius and a jeep or any other loaded overlander wont be much better. Too many people rip out the AHC not knowing its an incredibly capable system. psi at 10 and some good tires is all you need for acceptable performance but it will never be a trophy truck or sandrail, instead bring out the atvs and dirtbikes for the dunes haha
Yep absolutely! I don’t drive this thing like a trophy truck or like a rock crawler. She’s just a daily driver that take me and the family bro awesome trails. When you drive fast on the dirt, it cost money down the line. Parts fail and begin to wear. Thanks for your comment. I’m going through and replacing some bushings and swapping out the sway bar links. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your comments.
@@MAILER-DAEMON Hey, you probably needed some rear springs after years they lose spring rate passing more of the load to the gloves giving you this bouncy feel, also likely needed to adjust torsion bars to bring pressures into spec.. worse case some new accumulators (gloves) mine was bouncy until got new oem rear springs. Had to purchase tech stream to test pressures now been great for 2 years. 20 years 200k miles still working great.
Mine just sheared a camshaft and cracked a head at 180k. Timing belt changed at 100 and 160k. All maintenance done in a timely manner. I thought it had an engine that would last forever, but now I’m not so sure😬
Thank you. The very reason I bought this car has got me nervous now. The good news is, it’s paid for and rust free in great cosmetic and otherwise mechanical shape. If I have to put in a new engine, then I will.
@@lucillewest3489 That was my next question. Was wondering if you were completely done with the 100 Series or if you were going to give it another chance.
A few of the reasons I love the 100: reliability, seating position & visibility, the size, the ride, the toughness, interior space, & 100s are a nice change in a sea of 4Runners and Tacomas. I could only think of a few things I hate and most can be rectified by a newer 100 or modifying: 4spd tranny, 250 mile range, ATRAC (why get rid of the lockers Toyota?), limited options for aftermarket stereo with Navigation option.
Try not using 4low in the sand. I put it in 4hi and it does much better. Allows you to keep momentum. I’ve owned 3 100’s. 3 80’s. One 60. 200 coming next.
Thank you for watching the video. Check out my suspension video. I added a bunch of components and filmed it cycling in slow motion. I got stuck in the imperial sand dunes and it was all driver error. 🤦🏻♂️
Myrna Marmolejo it was probably the best stereo out in 2003. Now it’s a decent sounding relic. Hahaha I wish I could it out for something modern. Thanks for watching!
Fuel economy and Toyota trucks are a moot point. I went down that dark road of trying to over analyze the topic. My 99 LX470 gets 13-14 empty or loaded (it's just me and the dog). A couple years back, I bought a 17 Tacoma TRD offroad 4x4 thinking it would get much better mpg. By the time I finished rigging it up, the computer seemed stuck on about 11-12mpg....that being said, the LX is MUCH better on longer trips. I sold the Tacoma and still have my beloved LX470 with 287K. Another issue is the constant shifting of the Tacomas and 4Runners. They lack the low end torque to get up even the slightest hill/incline. Forget setting the cruise out on the highway, unless your on a flat in west Texas. The Land Cruisers have enough low end grunt to not constantly down shift. Add this to the list of loves for the LC/LX!
Yes, I totally agree. I’ve come to grips with the MPG’s. I knew that they would be bad before I purchased the LX. I truly do love the LX, it has proven to be a great vehicle. Thanks for leaving. Acomment.
I have a 04 same pearl white, just wondering does ur ac leaks? I looked the ac pipe underneath the common rust spot under passenger footwell, there’s not rust, couldn’t find where’s it’s leaking from unless it’s under the dash. Also my solid VGRS is on after alternator, power steering belt snapped, I looked around it’s has something to do with the steering angle sensor, any idea? Thanks!
Michael s That’s condensation leaking out through a spout attached to the firewall from the cooling unit which is located on the other side. If that condensation is leaking into the passenger side floor board then it’s a bad gasket on the door for the cooling unit. It’s also the same access panel to get to the air filter for that cooling unit. Probably wouldn’t be a bad time to replace the gasket and the filters. Hopefully that helps.
Definitely agree with most of your dislikes. Mine weighs closer to 7000lbs when fully rigged for expeditions. Lowering PSI to as little as 15 makes a HUGE difference in the sand. I also am triple locked on my 98 LX, so that helps to. The 343f 4-speed is perfectly adequate. But, that's the best that can be said about it. It's 1st gear is actually a little high. That's not a problem in daily driving. But, when off-roading (specifically going downhill in mountainous terrain), 1st gear in 4Lo lets the rig roll away from you pretty quick. This means I had to use my brakes a little more frequently than I'd prefer. Ideally, you drop into 1st 4Lo and just let the rig "crawl" itself down at a controlled pace without using the brakes at all. The later models with the 5-speed have much better low gearing. I had to address the issue on my 98 by re-gearing to 4.88 from the stock 4.30. Now I don't "catch up" with the 5 speed 100 Series when crawling down mountainous trails (think Black Bear in Colorado). MPG is laughably absurd. I average 10.4mpg (my rig is certainly way overweight and has tons of non-aero components adorned all over it). I kind of just learned to accept it for what it is. Honestly, no other vehicle has ever made me so happy to drive. I smile every time I get behind the wheel. Sure, I cry a little at the pump (especially when I fill up all 65 gallons). But, I've never smiled as much driving any vehicle I've ever owned. The ONE huge gripe I have with the 100 Series platform is this (and it's a HUGE one if you off-road)..........there is VERY little articulation! The rear is a solid axle and can flex/articulate quite well. However, the IFS front suspension is severely limited in terms of flex/articulation. This means it is super easy to get the front wheels WAY off the ground on uneven terrain. Compound that with the early model 2pinion front diff and you have a recipe for a grenaded diff. Most of us with the early models put a locker in the front as soon as it was feasible.
Gary Eanes Thank you so much for your comment. I too smile every time I drive this luxury off road vehicle. Getting stuck in the sand was definitely operator error, however this big girls weight didn’t help matters. Lol... I agree about how high 1st gear is and that re-gearing and adding a locker would really help on steeper trails. Are you going to 100 in the Hills this year? Thanks again for your comment.
@@LXPlore I am hoping to get registered for HIHX, yes. I've done the past 3 and enjoyed them immensely. Fingers crossed I can get registered within the first few minutes of the registration window. I think HIH9 sold out in like 45 seconds!
Gary Eanes I’ve never been and would love to go. I know that it’s pretty difficult to get a spot. I’m going to try, but we’ll see. Good luck and thanks again!
All excellent and I agree!!! I feel that for us 4spd guys, we would be even more content with a 5spd version of the 100. The 06-07 models were very very preppy as well wit the bump in power but were also near 200 pricing. My recommendation for the sway is to crank the torsion bars more. But with that increased lift and stiffness, brings more issues. Itll be more tippy feeling at the limit but will reduced that slow settle. Mine rarely hits the stability control. But I’ve also slowed my on ramp slaying too 😅😅😅
Smitty Schmitz Thank you very much...I wish I would’ve done a little more homework when looking for an LX. Oh well I’m happy with the 2002, she gets me where I want to go.
PRICE?? I'm the 2nd owner of a 99 LX470. The previous owner kept every receipt imaginable.....including the original dealer window sticker! The original sticker price was over $59,000!
I got a 120, prior to that I had amg mercs and jags , I love this thing simply because I dont have to worry about it, in less than a year 20000kms and nothing wrong. And it's a mans car.
Why no body mentioned about the master brake pump it just give you one minute warning before the brakes gone (except hand brake) while driving on the road (safety issue), and it cost a lot too. Also, the drive shaft slip when you engage the gear it can never seem to get it fix. Other than that is a great car of the century.
CS Chua Thanks for watching the video! Yes, I’ve heard of horror stories about the Brake pump. Luckily I haven’t experienced that. I was told to keep clean brake fluid in it to ensure longevity. I’m experiencing that drive shaft clunk. I grease it every oil change. It’s a temporary fix, but they’re meant to be greased. Thanks again! Btw what’s your favorite thing about the 100?
Ground clearance u seek is there in earlier models: 76, 79 models where the body could be as high as 22 inches or so... But generally, it is among the most reliable SUVS Off road
Thank you for watching the video. I wish we could get the 76 or 79 here in the states. Don’t get me wrong I do love the reliability of the 100, I just wish the suspension was different.
Great vid. I have the same vehicle, but a 2003. Good points. I would add that the accessory market is expensive and limited for cool mods like suspension, bumpers etc. But I do love this truck. Rides like a dream. I hear lots of complaining from the my young boys during wheelin' the ride, but once we hit pavement after a long hawl, total quietness.
Don't get me wrong. I like your vids and I subscribe to you on UA-cam and IG...lol.. You got my support brother!. If it wasn't for you, I would not have the lasfit headlight caps on my lx nor the asfir skid plate on my LC. Keep it up!
Great vid bud I’m a Cruiser collector I have fj40s hj47 fj62s my favourite so far would have to be my 80 series ! Although I’m looking at a 200 series now 🤗 there a nice truck.. never owned a 100 though 😉🤔I get attached to them all in different ways they are the best 4WDs by far ! And yes they use fuel even diesel ones but you know you’ll get home! Not like the Jeeps
Thank you for watching the video. That’s a pretty good collection. This is my first cruiser. I originally wanted an 80, however decided on the 100 because of engine size. The 100 is a great vehicle especially after some suspension modifications were made. I would love to get a 55.
Enjoyed the vid dude and I think all of us 100 series guess have the same love/hates 😂 I haven't had the traction control issue, do you have your AHC fuse pulled?
chrisfurby442 Thank you very much! You know that’s a good question. I’ll have to check. I’m assuming it’s been done, since the previous owner had the system removed and the traction control issue is intermittent. It happens when I’m in soft sand or a fast freeway transition. I’ll look and see if it’s there today. Thanks again.
@@LXPlore if I remember correctly there's 3 and I have the one big one pulled, it's up in the fuse box under the hood. Do you have the constantly flashing height light? Mine just randomly goes from low to normal to high 😂
What's thoughts on the 1999 cruiser, I found one with new motor and transmission. Only one owner and it's for sale at 7500, is that ball park for a really good shape land cruiser with less than 400 miles on the new motor and transmission.
khristopher bourque Hmmm all depends... they offered that year with a locking rear differential. I’d buy it if it has it, however it’s only a 4 speed trans. Not a deal killer, but it’s nice to have the 5 speed. Some say better MPG’s and power.
How are those clear views? You know these 100’s are darn near the most perfect vehicle, however it has it’s downfalls. We live with some of them and we correct others areas so that we can with live them. Thanks again for watching! I’m gonna look up clear views.
They are an Australian company and while expensive, the towing mirrors for the LX 470 are amazing. I have no blindspot, they breakaway both directions, extremely durable, AND they hook up to the electric mirror controls.
Brake booster sucks $3600 every 200k miles.. Engine in the 470 sucks, 11 miles per gallon transmission sucks for economy. The suspension goes out every 200, and that’s $3500, the manifold suck and go out, another 3500, and when the exhaust goes nothing Works! I use mine for my 3 boys, wife and Great Danes
Yeah… I’m a little bitter I bought a 2002, with 180,000 miles on it. Flawless. I spent $10,000 on maintaining it. I totaled it a month after. Then I bought a 2005. Drive it to Moab for the shake down run. And as I start climbing baby lions back for the first time, every warning light lights up, lose a track ability, and everything else… because of the manifold… Dam right I continued! It’s my wife’s daily driver.
@@9greatdanes981 I want to say everything got better once I change the suspension. I have two issues right now one is the stereo doesn’t really work I think it’s the amp and my driver side exhaust manifold has a slight leak in it.
Billy Bob says You forgot one ‘love’ thing. It has a passenger side visor mirror with light. That way you can gel that beautiful hair while your wife does the actual driving. Love your videos bro! Keep them coming.
"Not so good in the sand" ... common man why do you think its the vehicle of choice for people in middle east. Maybe you didn't deflate your tires before you get into the sand.
esteb lavon You’re right... those crazy guys in the Middle East fly through the dunes like they’re sand cars. I aired down to 20 psi, however my downfall and the reason i got stuck was I stopped in a bad spot. Lesson learned. Should’ve aired down more and I should’ve stopped facing down hill. Oh well
Video or you’re lying. I agree land cruisers aren’t great in the sand, deep snow etc. They are heavy so not sure what point you’re trying to make. Also there are just as many videos of middle eastern guys stuck as there are of them doing crazy shit in them.
You’ve generated a lot of hate on this post. Sadly, I agree with you about the power plant, though. I wish the 5.7 in my tundra was an accessible option for the 100 and 80 series land cruisers. The 4.7 is an incredibly reliable engine but I need to be able to get to 65 mph without too much effort.
Thank you for watching the video. There’s a lot of 100 series owners out there and I guess some of them were a little offended by the title of the video. Maybe I should rename it to I love this Land Cruiser. Lol ... I agree! The 5.7 in this LX would be awesome, however I love the reliability of the 4.7. I guess we can’t have it all. Even though I titled the video about hating the Land Cruiser, I really do love it.
In the land of almost free petrol I can't believe you moan about the fuel economy. Crazy people here in the UK have petrol Land cruisers and even though its really cheap at the moment about $1.25 per litre which is about $5.50 per US gallon you've got to be totally mad to own one. Most UK Land Cruiser 100's are 4.2Turbo Diesels with around 200bhp and closer to 400 lb/ft torque with centre lock dif and rear and front differential locks. They're probably getting 22mpg US on diesel.
Yes, fuel is definitely cheaper here than the UK and yes I'll still complain the prices. Lol... I wish we could get the Turbo Diesel here in the U.S. or the 105. Does the 105 come in a Diesel? Now that would be awesome!
CrazyDragonCross all UK spec 100 series came with centre, front and rear lockers. A lot of the Japanese import cars only have a centre diff lock and a LSD rear diff.
LXPlore the 105 series are very rare, only sold in Africa, Middle East and Australia. They do have Diesel engines as well as petrol but they’re the non turbo charged 4.2 straight six. The 4.2td is also used a lot in boats under the Yanmar name. Fantastic engine. Shouldn’t you be able to get 80 series diesel cars from japan now up to 1995.
@@Br1anuk Do you have a source on the factory front lockers? I couldn't find any information regarding front lockers on pretty much all the LC forums. Even UK based forums are saying that they only have centre and rear lockers. I'd be very interested to source a factory front locker for mine.
Please deflate your tires when driving in sand and the 6 ton vehicle will not sink in sand. Put Desert Dweller tires and you will have no issues. Also Deflate tires when driving on big rocks .
All the problems you have are problems that can be fixed. You don’t like the departure angle? Stop whinging about not wanting to change the “smoothness of the ride” and get a suspension lift (you can’t have it both ways). Don’t like how it sinks in the dunes? Learn how to drive in the dunes. Don’t like the IFS? Get a 105 series. Don’t like how heavy it is? Or how much fuel it uses? Go buy a little prado, that seems more up your alley. Stop bitching about it and make it the car you want it to be.
Thanks for watching. I would have to say no. I’ve owned several 4 wheel drive vehicles and this one is a modified luxury 4 wheel drive. It’s capable of many obstacles, however I wouldn’t go as far as saying a “done up 4wd”.
@@LXPlore I did just get a 200 (LC) this weekend, so can’t make a full comparison but like them both. The 200 is much more lux ride. Get to keep my 100 for now too.
Between the wind in the mic and the mousy quiet voice, I can't hear what your saying. With that said, in the 7 Land Cruisers I have owned 4, 80 series and 3 100 series, I have never ran into anything bad enough to make me think it's bad because the good so far outweighs the bad. I still own my 1994 that currently has 660,500k ish miles on it, a 1999 with 345k and my 2006 with 120k. Never one problem other then expected maintenance.
I've read a few of the comments and no one is mentioning rust! That is what I hate the most about this car. RUST RUST. For a car of that cost when it was new, and Toyota known for quality....hard to understand. Even French cars don't rust that much!
If you tear out the AHC, you really should look at beefier torsion bars. That was a mistake the previous owner made. The hydraulic globes hold up the majority of the weight front and rear. So, the stock LX470 springs and torsion bars are scrawny little things. They were never designed to hold much weight!
Thank you for watching the video. I totally agree... I have since changed the torsions, springs and shocks. I’ve also added bump stops and extended sway bar links. Stay tune I’ll have another video about my suspension upgrades coming soon.
Believe there is a mod on the MUD forums for being able to turn off the VSC functionality. Think that ATRAC is a different story though, consult the MUD continuum for more knowledge. With regards to mileage, you think that these are bad try daily driving a stock FJ60!!! Good days I would get around 8-9mpg for around town, then jump on the freeway and WOOOHOOO I got 11mpg, I once got 13mpg (entire tank was on the freeway) and I about $% myself. Granted my '98 LC ain't much better, like you are saying, but I did not expect much with a heavier vehicle, aerodynamics of a brick wall and other stuff. But then again look at most of the same generation V8 vehicles of comparable weight and you will see that it is about on par. I get it, a gas hungry vehicle sucks donkey #$%* but it is the price we pay for the love of the things we do. I wouldn't give up ANY of the Land Cruisers I have had for anything, if I want mpgs then I will get a small beater car for that dedicated reason or if going on long road trips will take the wife's '11 4Runner (which I can push to 19-20mpg if I really want to) but that isn't the point of the vehicle.
mizznfizz1 Thank you so much. I’ll definitely have to look it up. I’m swapping out my swaybar bushings and putting on extended links and I’ll check my steering rack.
Sorry to tell you this but it's great in the sand, if not the best. It's the vehicle of choice here in the gulf dunes, you must have wrong tires or wrong pressure or you just suck at driving. Just see videos of land cruisers qater and uae dunes. I own one and I am not saying that the jeeps are bad but they overheat and break down all the time and can't handle the abuse.
Thanks for watching the video and commenting. I’ve owned Jeeps and I’ve sold them all. Some were good and some were horrible, but all of them were a crappy ride. The Land Cruiser drives like a dream and is reliable. She’s just really heavy.
it's not really that heavy ~2400 kg. What are you comparing it to? it's not going to sink in the sand because of the weight. It's either the tires or the pressure of the tires.
Thanks for watching the video. I’ve been through two jeeps I didn’t really care for the death wobble or the rough ride on the pavement. There’s no such thing as reliability when it comes to a jeep.
I have owned many LCs and my last one is 2008 LC200, which I bought new 12 years ago and so far its the best I have ever owned. Now sets at 480k miles trouble free. Here is what I like and dislike. 1- Reliability.... its a TANK 2- Space.... its a Station Wagon 🥰 3- Comfort 4- Sahara edition (Oem 3.5 ton winch, 2 Spare tires from factory, oem rear diff lock) 5- Stock lights are so bright from factory when you hit high beam you can see tomorrow 😁 Things I hate, 1- Fuel economy... my average is about 12 mpg some times 14 mpg 2- Timing belt job (mine is the 2UZ, 4.7L V8) 3- It should come with 33 inch tires from factory (Already swaped to 33s)
Thanks for watching the video. Yes, I totally agree with it being a tank too. I actually feel safer driving it than the wife’s 4Runner. I keep toying with the idea of getting a 200, however I really do like the 100. It has its flaws, but I can live with them. 🍻

ABS traction control goes off in those situations most likely because you’re bushings are worn out on that older vehicle that’s what happened to mine after driving it for over 250,000 miles

Yeah not sure. Here in the US we don’t get to import several Land Cruiser variants. It’s a shame, however it’s probably the best for my bank account.
Would you take the 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser off roading or four wheel driving with stock suspension?
Thanks for watching the video. Yes I would and I have been off-roading in stock suspension. There’s limitations, however these vehicles are quite capable in stock form.
@@LXPlore what are the limitations and would you recommend putting lift kits on the 100 series??
@@lockyrichardson7195 in stock form with little to no weight inside, they perform great. If you decide to off-road or overland with camping gear then you’ll wait to upgrade the tired suspension. Another limitation would be tire size. Oversized tires will give you height and traction. In order to get bigger tires, you’ll need larger springs in the rear, and crank the torsions in the front. Now cranking torsions will lift the front end, however now you’re messing with the angle of the axles. It’s sounds more complicated than it is. A great resource for suspension setup is the Ih8mud forums.

Thanks for watching the video. My 100 is a 2002, so far no problems with the trans or the brake booster. Knock on wood!
What lift are you talking about?
I'd also like to know what AHC specific lift you're talking about.
Me three…curious on the AHC compatible lift

I’ll be real mine never suffered from traction control issues. Maybe I was just lucky but the way I disabled the ahc I got no lights or warnings.
Hayden Smith That’s really good. The previous owner had it removed. I haven’t had any lights on because of the AHC removal. Traction control lights and bells go off when I’m off road or taking a tight turn.
@@LXPlore Definitely something is wrong with your truck, thats not normal.
Hayden Smith hmmm do you think a simple scan gauge with abs diagnostics would work or do you think that’s a dealer thing?
Thank you for watching the video. Oh how I wish I could have any vehicle. A 200 in diesel would be great or even a 105 would be nice.
well fuel economy of the petrol version sucks maybe - a reason why I have a diesel version. by the way mine is a LC 100 50TH anniversary edition from 2000 with air suspension and I wouldn't change that.

Thank you. Your comments help me a lot

No Joke.

They have too much long term reliability to ever junk then--so ironically you keep fixing stuff and never quit on them
Yes so true and thank you for watching the video.

04 has 5speed, 14/17mpg
@@lucillewest3489 lol yeah 03+ for 5spd transmissions… but the peppy comment was in reference to the later VVTI models.
Bigger tires alone will give you enough lift. Really can keep the truck mostly stock. 04' Owner of a Toyota Brick as well
G W Nice... we really do love these bricks. They’re fun to drive.
PRICE?? I'm the 2nd owner of a 99 LX470. The previous owner kept every receipt imaginable.....including the original dealer window sticker! The original sticker price was over $59,000!
Absolutely! Can’t go wrong buying a used 100/ LX470 with great service records. 💪🏻
I got a 120, prior to that I had amg mercs and jags , I love this thing simply because I dont have to worry about it, in less than a year 20000kms and nothing wrong. And it's a mans car.

Congratulations on your new ride. Quite honest I’m a little jealous, I wish they sold the turbo diesel here in the US.
Subbed. Keep up the good work. ‘05 TLC ~260k miles here
Thank you! 260k barely broke in. 🤣 mine just turned 200k
Good info man, I'm thinking the 100 series will be my next build but still not sure.
Trail Ready 4Runner That’s awesome! Let me know if you have any questions.
Enrique Sonora Agreed! The Toyota overland market is crazy expensive. My boys always give me a hard time and have named the LX, “Big Bertha”.
great video very informative looking to buy a 200 series. but I might have to revisit the 100 series.

Thinking about getting rid of my eco boost for a 06 Cruiser.
khristopher bourque An 06 would be a good year. Are you thinking Lexus or a Toyota? Btw... thanks for watching!
Yota, found one in great shape with 160k miles for 16k.
khristopher bourque I would definitely do the Toyota over the Lexus. Just the resale value alone. Everyone wants the Toyota and Land Cruiser badging.
The number 1 thing I couldn't stand about my 99 was the tiny mirrors. Replaced them with Clearviews, solved :D
I have no blindspot, they breakaway both directions, extremely durable, AND they hook up to the electric mirror controls.
i saw a 2002 100 series for $87 000, it had 78,000km. that's a mad price for one
karlos sipeli WOW! Was that’s crazy.
They look nice. And I agree I hate torsion bars.....go coil overs with lite springs that should help a lot. Nice build anyway.
Todd Girard Thank you very much. Still a great vehicle to do what I like to do.
:)) have u ever thought about put a rear bumper it will increase departure put the spare tyre on and add a sub fuel tank
Thanks for watching. Yes would love to get a rear bumper. They’re just so expensive hahaha. Hopefully soon…. Any recommendations
100% ….but I still love them. Thanks for watching the video!
Yeah… I’m a little bitter I bought a 2002, with 180,000 miles on it. Flawless. I spent $10,000 on maintaining it. I totaled it a month after. Then I bought a 2005. Drive it to Moab for the shake down run. And as I start climbing baby lions back for the first time, every warning light lights up, lose a track ability, and everything else… because of the manifold…
Dam right I continued! It’s my wife’s daily driver.
@@9greatdanes981 I want to say everything got better once I change the suspension. I have two issues right now one is the stereo doesn’t really work I think it’s the amp and my driver side exhaust manifold has a slight leak in it.

"Not so good in the sand" ... common man why do you think its the vehicle of choice for people in middle east. Maybe you didn't deflate your tires before you get into the sand.
esteb lavon You’re right... those crazy guys in the Middle East fly through the dunes like they’re sand cars.

Yeah it does! Thanks for watching the video.
Pretty sure no 100 series comes with factory front locker. Centre lockers come standard and rear lockers are rarer..
Thank you for watching the video.

LX_Plore Thanks for sharing your experience. I have been looking at a 2006.
Tom Olofsson That’s a great year for the 100. That 5 speed trans makes it feel peppier and I believe you’ll get a little bit better MPG’s.

Tom Olofsson I’ve gotten as high as 15 mpg, but usually only get about 12.
do Americans call this a "done up" 4wd?

4x4 and Carpfishing Lifestyle Oh I bet! I’ve been fortunate that I don’t have any rust on my 100. I’ve heard of the horror stories.
I am in Florida, and mine has been in Florida it's whole life.
Jonathan Whiteacre does it have any rust? Mine is a California car with zero rust.
Ridiculous comment
Rusting is a problem if you live near the ocean or in a cold place where they salt the roads during winter.
The ride would be even nicer if the AHC was still in it!
