because he's high. evidence: he sounds exactly like I sound when I'm high. "I don't know what that means - it just sounds good" "it's kinda hot in here" "I'm shiny" "those things are like trees" "a bass has a neck?" "there's actually four notes on every line - did you know that?" "man it's hot in this studio" "shada kaka!" god knows what he's high on but I want it. that's right, I want a bass.

I like the wider string spacing of the p neck, and I think it looks better too. Jazz bass bodies or too offset or not offset enough. I haven’t decided which. A thin jazz master guitar shaped body with a p neck and p/j pickups would be really cool

So I came here to find out what bass to buy as my first bass.
I’ve been playing trumpet 🎺 for 10 years.
I think I prefer the P Bass because
-better to play in a band //better sounding together with the other instruments
-not so “in your face” as you said/ not so dominant
-more of a classic “thump” sound
But when you put them together as a PJ- I agree with you, that’s sounds killer !!
but for me as a beginner I think I will go with a simple P-Bass.
Your enthusiasm is contagious!! Rock on! 💜

    • @musenw8834
      @musenw8834 3 роки тому +1

And fundamentally basslines are focused on the lows, hence the P basses. but tonal versatility in slap bass, soloing or funk, would require brighter or more growly/aggressive bass tones, so that's where you need a bridge pickup, hence the J basses.
also, if you dont have a p bass but you have a jazz bass, you can just use a neck pickup + no tone brightener to achieve a tone close to that of a p bass. so a jazz bass is also just as viable and hence i prefer that over p bass.

    • @dandylion2837

Hey @@Napalm6b ! Funny just yesterday I got my first Amp, a Hartke HD 15 . Thank you for your tip! Actually... I listend to 30 different basses on video with my eyes closed and found out -- I love Fedora !!
Haha! Then I looked into my purse and found out -- I can’t afford Fedora ! :/
So, I bought a different, great sounding one = Fender, Squier P-Bass, Classic Vibe , 70s style .
Most say the same line, 60s style sounds better, BUT I went for the 70’s just because the neck is thinner and I have relatively small hands, the neck is more like a guitar, and it suits me.
So you see, that is a personal preference, as all hands are different. ✌🏼

I have both a Fender Jazz Plus and Fender Jazz Plus V Bass Guitar. They both are great sounding and playing basses. They are equipped with Fender Lace Pickups and a Kubicki Preamp, both are rare. Theses particular basses were only in production between 1990-1994, my 2 are 1992's. They did not go over well at the time, due to their deviation from the normal Fender Jazz Bass designs. I would really like to see you do a review of this model,be aware that they are really hard to find but if you should being a jazz lover lover, you to will be blown away by their sound, playability and feel.

The reason for P-bass (P for precision) was that the neck now had frets creating the precise places for the notes versus a double bass neck which has no frets. Jazz basses came afterwards as improvements on the P which was the original electric bass with precisely placed frets on the neck recreating the same exact note every time without having to adjust like on a double bass.

Merci, that's an instructive video. I play P bass too and the sound is so loud and deep ! every time I'm playing jazz bass I fell that's the neck is to narrow you know. But I like the Pastorius sound too :). You're way to slap is very impressive. I discovered P bass with the Iron Maiden bassist, Steve Harris, who is one of my favorite bassist. Thanks for the show, have a good day !

I got me an Ibanez TMB-100 to learn on, which has both types of pickups - ceramic magnets, but still and all sounds good...!

This was great and your playing it's like you have perfect control at all times. It is something to aspire to, for sure.
